Hey Sister Sledge, well I just read the same rubbish from you twice. I know you're all worked up but there's no need to repeat yourself champ...

Clearly I'm against sledging and BS behaviour on the cricket field, while clearly you and others condone it. Pretty sad for the game I reckon. It shows a total lack of respect for your opponents, your club, the game and yourselves.

As Rodney King said in between copping batons from the cops, "can't we all just get along?"

sleding is a part of cricket mate, racism and alike is not but if u let sledging affect u then ur gonna struggle, if 16yr olds can cop it, and still keep batting or bowling 100% then i think u can.

and if you've played cricket for a decent amount of time then surely u'll have given out a sledge or 2 over the years so roll with something that has been a part of cricket for a long time.

cheers

Hi guys,
First time poster here.... just wondering if the vsdca is considering/planning a 20-20 comp involving all subbies club?
I was involved in a Elsternwick vs Brighton 20-20 match last night... around 200 people turned out. There was music, bbq and plenty of money going behind the bar. It was an overall success.

Are clubs pushing for a 20-20 subbies comp... or are the odd local friendlys prefered?

Well, Brighton and Elsternwick played two 20-20 games against each other (one at each ground) this season for the Buxton Cup. Brighton won both games and took home the inaugral buxton cup. Also worth noting that one of the rules is that two under 18 must be in each teams 12 players.
Anyway, last night Brighton batted first and made 129, a good but gettable score. Elsternwick lost wickets at vital times in the 2nd innings to fall 20 runs short. No outstanding individual performances... all wickets and runs shared around.

There has been talk the cup might grow to involve more clubs in bayside/glen eira area. I think its a pretty good concept.

Re: subbies season 07/08 & 08/09

i like the idea of a 20-20 comp in the south region, i know i'd pay to watch beshara rip apart bowling attacks in a shortened form of the game.

In a 20-20, Beshara could rip apart fast bowling.... yes, but a half-decent spinner is his weakness.
By the way, why doesnt he bat himself in the top 5 on saturdays. Is he afraid of the new ball??? Ive played against him the last 4 years and he always comes in way too low in my opinion.

he has batted himself around the order more this year, i think has opened once and been at 3,4,5,6,7 around there.

i think the main reason is because we have specialist openers, and blokes that bat in the smae positon more or less, tony meyer and russel oaten have been at 3 and 4 the majority of the year and have had success. so it's more of making sure the chemistry is right in the order,

but honestly i reckon he could bat wherever and get runs,
who do u play for

cheers

I have played a bit of school cricket against a Sam Dalton.
Not a bad player.
Hard to tell from school cricket considering how low the standard is in the ACS.
He has scored only 52 runs at an average of 8 this year though, went up to the firsts on the back of 15 runs in 3 hits in the 2s, interesting.

Re: subbies season 07/08 & 08/09

Whippet i've heard that there will be a 20-20 comp next year, there are meetings being held in the next few week about it. Did Macmahon do anything in the 20-20s, he is a gun, and a good bloke to. The sort of bloke you'd want as your captain coach. Unlike Beshara, again good player but very strange cat. I heard that he wouldnt let his hatch kids eat anything except salad during the entire carnival, and they had a sleep over in the club rooms. They are obviously moving in the right direction, firsts have climbed off the bottom to be 12th this season, the 2nds are also flying with 3 points, plenty of players coming through the grades. George is good but he will surely go to district cricket shortly, unless Simon get the whole team reported in his first game as captain holds him back. Also i've heard the big fella being sledged too, and he didn't like it much at all. His sledges dont make any sence, certainly not in the class of Fleming or Harper.

Mcmahon smashed 80 odd in the first 20-20... his money shot is over cow corner. He came in later in the second 20-20 and didnt face too many balls.
Ive heard similar stories about beshara... not sure which ones are fact and which ones are fiction?

Re: subbies season 07/08 & 08/09

He had more money shots than just a cow shot against us, smashed them to all parts and didnt give a chance. Mostly fact with Beshara I think, though he is a bit of a cult figure. It funny I was in the ormond rooms this year and one of their club missions/mottos is to be respected by their peers or something along those lines. Thats working out well isn't it.
