The Lounge 2

I love the old Aussie phases like:

Strewth, I can feel it in my waters.
He's a dead ringer for old Bruce.
Stone the crows.
What a drongo! He's a total wombat!

What other favourite sayings are there?
Am as dry as a dead dingoes donger. My pop used to say that when he was thirsting for a beer. He had a monstrous beer gut for as long as I can remember.

We have some sayings here! 🀣

Do one. Meaning get lost. 🀣

Going for an Ertha Kitt. Meaning going to the toilet.🀣

Up s&#@ creek without a paddle. Meaning you're in some sort of trouble.🀣

There's more so I'll post when I think of them!

Jessica, you need to watch an old movie called The Adventures of Barry McKenzie which is about a dinkum dye Aussie yobbo who goes to your country the UK for the time in his life with his aunt to learn some manners, now this film has some classic Aussie slang in it which you can learn from if you wish.

Up s&#@ creek without a paddle.
WE use that too. We dont use rhyming slang much anymore.

As mad as a cut snake

describes someone that is out if control.

Charges like a wounded bull

no, you aren’t being warned about an angry, injured bovine on the loose. Instead, this common Aussie phrase will alert you to a business with high price tags.

Couldn't organise a p*ss up in a brewery

someone that does not have a clue

Spare her Zman. Was the most cringworthy film I ever saw. Barry Crocker's '' I'm gonna point percy at the porcelain''. And Barry Humphries 'chundering' in a private residence. Trust me Jessica you dont wanna see this abomination.
You've got no warped sense of humor Richie; I thought it was hilarious when I first saw it. πŸ˜…

looker-on looker-on

Thomas how are you and your family getting on without your beloved pooch? πŸ•
Still difficult. I can manage better than my wife who must find a new sense of life it seems. As much as I had loved Sari and did everything for her, I also felt restricted and limited in what I could do. Now I'm enjoying the temporary spell of a new freedom I'm having and would not be willing to give it up again. It's still a touchy area which we don't talk about but I noticed with some suspicion that my wife keeps Sari's belongings in the cellar...I couldn't have another dog, though. I'd rather quit everything knowing that I've done everything possible. Now it's for others to do the same.

Thomas your Lukas Martens just pipped our Sam Short at the World Swim Champs, with both swimmers going under the old world record. A thrilling race saw the German's extra reach touch the wall first by a finger tip.πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ
Yes, that was an extraordinary feat. He was in a shape of his lifetime after he'd toyed with the idea of ending his career. Unfortunately, that event hardly received attention over here since it was overlaid by the Women's Euro Football Cup.

G'day Tezza, how's it going? Are you still dark on Brucy?

Fair dinkum, he couldn't organise a Rock fight in a Quarry!

No worries mate, she'll be right! He's no bogan nor bludger. I'll set up the barbie myself with free snags for the Sheilas. Early arvo kick off.

Good on ya!

I'll fill up me esky with cold amber fluid tinnies too. Small gold coin a pop.
Maybe a sickie Monday for some.

That's true blue! πŸ‘Thanks for the yarn Cobber.

Totally understand about your freedom, I felt it too when my Labrador passed. We give them the best of everything, then they break our hearts. Sounds like your wife may be struggling a bit. Bless her, she wants to keep her things as a reminder of Sari πŸ™‚

I only recognise a few quotes, sounds weird spoken in my British accent! 🀣

Two sheets to the wind. Meaning someone is thick! 🀣

Not a full shilling. Another phrase for someone who is thick! 🀣

Freeze the wotsits off a brass monkey. Meaning it is freezing! πŸ₯Ά
