The Lounge 2

So, after getting a horrific quote yesterday to change over my car's carpet by a motor trimmer I've decided it to DIY fix it myself because I can't justify paying the big cost considering the age of it. Other than a big 3 inch by 1 inch hole on the driver's side and a small ciggie burn on the passenger's side it looks very repairable wish me luck.
Good Luck Zman. I reckon I'd do similar to save the money.
What about just putting in mats?
That's be easy and cheap I reckon.

My 17yo 'manual' Corolla's carpet is getting thin on the driver's side, especially under the pedals. A mat under them could be dangerous tho.

That's going to be the final stage, right now I've just filled in the 3 inch by one inch hole with a round like foam that's used for flowerpots and I've also used a foam filler which when hardens up will fill in the rest of any gaps and secures it all in place then when that filler dries I'll scape off the excess and flatten it out to the floor level. The last step will be to secure the whole thing with either gaffer tape or a large carpet type adhesive patch then she's just about done, it will just need some car mats to cover it all as the finishing touch after the repair is complete. The whole cost for the repair plus the mats will be under $100 compared to $975 I was quoted by a motor trimmer to change over an 'aftermarket' carpet mind you which is not even an original one for my car model.

Well done Zman, that looks great. A bit of thought and elbow grease saves money for sure.
Ta mate, I reckon the whole job has cost me under 50 bucks worth of materials and saved me over close to $930 bucks of wasted money and I'd say roughly $800 of that $975 quote is pure profit for that greedy motor trimmer.

Wow guys this is one of the most relaxing music I've ever heard, check it out on YouTube.

I imagine that 30° is heat in your neck of the woods. We've been lucky (how long will we be?) that the worse of the two predictions for central Europe has not materialised. We did have 40° as I wrote but not for long. This week we're going to have two warmer days if you like with around 30° but a real heat wave won't be very likely towards the end of summer. It's been way too dry with low water levels in many rivers and somehow strange with strong winds but no clouds as would be typical of cyclones.
We find it increasingly hard to cope with temps over 30° since they'd paralyse us. We're so glad, though, that it's been a bearable summer. It may not be long until I publicly announce that I look forward to winter rather than to summer as I used to do all my life. Winter doesn't prevent me from doing what I like but our extreme summers increasingly do.
It's cooled down a lot here since my post, we're no longer in a heatwave 🤗
Autumn is definitely starting early 😍

Jessica you must be pissed off that more asylum seekers have been offered hotel accomodation. When it was reported that was not the case.
