Tiwari, Rayadu prop Mumbai Indians to 200 plus score

Mumbai had just been afforded an excellent start before three quick wickets put paid to their aspirations. Almost!

Because in Ambati Rayadu and Saurabh Tiwari, the mumbai indians found two batsmen who could not only handle the bat, but also hit the big shots and not lose their wickets in a hurry.

Mumbai had only earlier, become the first team in the history of ipl – all of 119 matches – to go into the game with only three international players and after tendulkar, Jayasuriya and Aditya Tare had been sent back to the pavilion, one would have thought that the two newbies would look at consolidating.

No. Nothing of that sort. They went ahead with a strategy to see-ball, hit-ball. Rayadu, who had returned from the ICL, smacked his half century off 30 balls, while his partner was slower off the blocks, but rather coincidentally, got there off 30 deliveries only.

In the end, they were involved in a 110-run partnership that pulled Mumbai into a very strong position, from a stage where they could have easily gone the rajasthan way. Wonder why wasn’t Tiwari given more chances earlier, and why Rayadu went for ICL?

They performed very well and I think they will lose their surprise value as teams will plan for them now. Both looked solid and played very impressively and in the end were the difference between the sides.

I think many Indian players went to the ICL for the security they provided in terms of contracts provided. Also at the time the IPL was an unknown event and no one knew if it would be the success it is now. The IPL has provided Indian cricket an excellent opportunity to find these players.
