Tour Match: CA Chairman's XI vs New Zealand at Lilac Hill

New Zealand's short tour starts off with the annual tour match at Lilac Hill here in Perth. The Chairman's XI have continued New Zealand's poor run of form, they've put NZ to the sword so far, smashing everything the kiwis have thrown at them.

At the moment, they're 5/236 in the 33rd over. The innings has been highlighted by a blistering innings from Luke Pomersbach who blazed 88 off 65 balls which included 12 fours and 3 sixes. David Hussey, Mike Hussey's younger brother has also batted superbly and has 72 off only 51 deliveries.

Other contributors have been Theo Doropoulos with 32 and Liam Davis with 30 runs. Luke Ronchi was out for a duck on the first ball of the game and Phillip Hughes was also out for zero.

The NZ bowlers have all been smashed excpet for Chris Martin who has bowled well for 1/25 off six overs. The others have gone for six runs an over or more with Iain O'Brien the biggest offender, he has 1/52 off only four overs, those figures are very Twenty20-esque.

CA Chairmans XI: *+Luke Ronchi, Liam Davis, Luke Pomersbach, Phillip Highes, David Hussey, Theo Doropoulos, Ryan Campbell, Trent Kelly, Aaron Heal, Matthew Olsen, Shawn Gillies, Jo Angel (12th man).

New Zealand XI: Lou Vincent, Brendon McCullum, Jamie How, Scott Styris, Matthew Sinclair, +Gareth Hopkins, Jacob Oram, Chris Martin, Jeetan Patel, Iain O'Brien, Michael Mason, Mark Gillespie (12th man).

12th man will be able to bowl today as this is a 12-man match with 11 batting and 11 fielding.

Not sure who is captaining NZ today with Vettori not playing. I would say it would be Scott Styris, surprised he hasn't got a bowl either with the run rate over seven.

Re: Tour Match: CA Chairman's XI vs New Zealand at Lilac Hill

The Chairman's Xi were bowled out for 285 in the 47th over. A flurry of wickets fell late in the innings and the Chairman's side failed to capitalize of their very good start. Hussey was out for 73 with the tail making some small contributions at the end of the innings.

Jacob Oram was the most effective bowler for the kiwis, snaring 3/41 off seven overs. Chris Martin and Jeetan Patel took two wickets each.

The NZ reply was highlighted by a brilliant knock from Brendon McCullum who was released from his wicketkeeping duties. McCullum scored 119, an innings which included 5 sixes. The next best scorers with jamie How and Mark Gillespie who both scored 30 runs, Gillespie's innings was undefeated.

This took NZ to 9/278 off their 50 overs but it wasn't enough as they lost by seven runs.

For the bowlers, Aaron Heal and David Hussey took two wickets each as did big Jo Angel, the former WA representative. Angel showed he still has what it takes, also bowling two maiden overs.

A great conclusion to a superb match. Man of the Match was Brendon McCullum.

The next game of NZ's tour is the Twenty20 International which takes place on Tuesday Night against Australia here in Perth.
