Game 10, Group D - India vs Pakistan at Durban

In what was probably the most thrilling game of the tournament so far, it all came down to a bowl off as India and Pakistan could not be seperated after each team faced their full 20 overs.

Mohammad Asif bowled brilliantly early on as India's innings was left in tatters, slumping to 4/36 in the 7th over. However, Robin Uthappa came to the rescue, making a solid 50 before falling in over number 13 which left MS Dhoni and Irfan Pathan the job of getting India to a credible score. They didn't go all the way and India limped to 9/141 from their 20 overs.

Pakistan were seemingly in the box seat but they failed to capatalize on their bowling effort with RP Singh bowling Imran Nazir in the 3rd over. Salman Butt then tickled one to Dhoni off Agarkar and when Kamran Akmal was run-out, we suddenly had a game on our hands. Pathan got rid of Younis for a duck and then removed Shoaib Malik six overs later with Pakistan in all sorts of trouble.

Pakistan were in the hopless position of needing 39 off 15 balls but then enter Misbah-ul-Haq who smacked 53 off 35 to get them back into game.

With two balls to go, Pakistan only needed one run. Sreesanth was to bowl the final over with the second last ball a dot. Sreesanth then stayed round the wicket for the final delivery and Misbah could only prod the ball to mid-off where Robin Uthappa threw the ball to Sreesanth to complete the run-out with Misbah well short.

So, the game was to be decided by a bowl-off. Each team was to get three attempts with Uthappa, Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh representing India and Umar Gul, Yasir Arafat and Shahid Afridi to bowl for Pakistan.

Unfortunately for Pakistan, all three bowlers missed the stumps and India's bowlers all hit to win the bowl-off 3-0 and therefore take the match.

Game 11, Group C - New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Johannesburg

New Zealand lost both Vincent and McCullum early on but the run rate picked due to a quick partnership between Ross Taylor and Peter Fulton. Fulton then fell in the 11th over with Styris and McMillan following him pretty quickly. It was then left to Taylor to score runs and he did so, smashing 62 off 42 before he edged Malinga to Kumar Sangakkara. New Zealand finished with 7/164 after Jacob Oram had a late crash and bash.

Dilhara Fernando was the only multiple wicket-taker for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka started off very quickly with New Zealand's bowlers taking a hammering, particularly Shane Bond and then Mark Gillespie. Upul Tharanga fell to Vettori but by then the score was already 82. Sangakkara came and went and then Jayawardene had yet another go at smashing the Kiwi attack. Jayasuriya eventually fell to Vettori but the game was over by then as Sri Lanka cruised to 3/168 and a seven wicket win.

Daniel Vettori took 2/23 for the Kiwis as he and Scott Styris tried to peg the Sri Lanka scoring rate back. They didn't have much help with three of New Zealand's bowlers going for over 10 runs per over.

12th Match - South Africa vs Bangladesh at Cape Town

Bangladesh went ballistic early, racing to 3/56 after just four overs. Aftab Ahmed fell in the 5th over and his departure saw Bangladesh's run scoring dry up. Mashrafe Mortaza hit two big sxies but they were his only scoring shots as he fell for 12. The rest failed to have any real impact as the continual loss of wickets saw Bangladesh's run rate plummet from over 13 to less than 7.5. They were bowled out in the last over for 144.

Shaun Pollock took three wickets but was very expensive and Morne Morkel and Vernon Philnader took two wickets each and they were the ones that helped apply the brakes to Bangladesh's early onslought.

South Africa were never really bothered by the target and cruised to victory inside 19 overs and only losing three wickets along the way. Graeme Smith and Albie Morkel both top scored with 41 as South Africa won by seven wickets.

Abdur Razzak picked up two wickets for Bangladesh in their losing cause.

Both South Africa and Bangladesh progress through to the Super Eight stage of the tournament.

Start of the Super Eights stage of the tournament.

Game 13, Super Eights - India vs New Zealand at Johannesburg

The Kiwis batted first and lost Lou Vincent in the 2nd over. That only fired up Brendon McCullum and he finally scored some runs making 45 off 31. New Zealand lost consistent wickets though and when Scott Styris fell they were 5/91 and in a bit of trouble. However, this brought Jacob Oram to the crease and paired with Craig McMillan smashed the New Zealanders out of trouble. Oram's innings lasted only 15 balls but he scored 35 runs in that time. McMillan fell on the second last ball of the innings for 44. New Zealand racked up 190 runs in that time, a very good score.

Harbhajan Singh and RP Singh both took two wickets for India. Sreesanth, Yuvraj and Agarkar all got carted giving up over 10 runs per over.

In reply, India started very, very well and blazed 76 off just 5.5 overs before Virender Sehwag fell. His innings went for 17 balls and got back to some of his best work hitting 40 runs. There were no heroics from Robin Uthappa this time, he made a duck and then Gautam Gambhir left soon after for 51 off 33.

No-one else managed to make an impact on the scoreboard as once again Daniel Vettori choked the middle order and stopped the run flow with some brilliant bowling. Vettroi finished with figures of 4/20 off his 4 overs, simly awesome bowling. Sreesanth tried hard late but it was all too much for India and they couldn't capatalize on the great start that they had. New Zealand won a close game by 10 runs.

Game 15, Super Eights - South Africa vs England at Cape Town

South Africa were saved once again by Albie Morkel who from the lower order smacked England's bowlers around the park and lifted them to a credible 8/154 from their 20 overs. Everyone before him was hitting at around a run a ball and South Africa looked set to only get 130. But Morkel set the game alight and smashed South Africa to more than what they should have got.

Stuart Broad bowled well to take 3/37 and Andrew Flintoff took 2/23.

England started poorly and lost Luke Wright for a duck. Kevin Pietersen was then run out in bizarre circumstances. Shaun Pollock accidentally got in his way with Makhaya Ntini throwing the stumps down from backward square leg to effect the dismissal. Matt Prior and Owais Shah tried their best but neither could really muster the big hits that England needed to stay on target. Once they departed it was left to Flintoff who looks really out of sorts with the bat. The tail couldn't slog to save their life and England's specialist side went down once more.

Game 16, Super Eights - Pakistan vs Sri Lanka at Johannesburg

Two blazing 50's from Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik helped Pakistan to the competitive score of 6/189 from their 20 overs. Khan and Malik added 101 for the 4th wicket in just 9.1 overs as they put Pakistan into a very strong position at the innings break. Khan scored 51 off 35 and Malik 57 off 31 balls as they smashed the helpless Sri Lankan attack around the Wanderers ground. Sanath Jayasuriya was the big victim, his four overs going for a staggering 64 runs!!

In reply, Sri Lanka lost Tharanga for a duck and also Jayasuriya early as both were gone before the end of the second over. Mehela Jayawardene scored a just better than a run-a-ball 28 with Silva and Dilshan both making 38 runs each. But when they needed to really go, they couldn't and target was far too much in the end. Shahid Afridi's 3 wicket haul was the highlight with Umar Gul bowling very well towards the end of the innings, snuffing out Sri Lanka's hopes of a late comeback.

Game 17, Super Eights - England vs New Zealand at Durban

As had happened quite a few times at the tournament, the New Zealand top order has failed to fire and it has been left to the middle and lower order to make the runs. This time was no exception. The Kiwis slipped to 5/91 after the dismissal of Scott Styris for 42. However Craig McMillan came to the party and smashed 57 off 31 balls taking New Zealand to 9/164 off their 20 overs.

Darren Maddy and James Anderson were the best bowlers for England picking up two wickets each. Maddy only bowled the one over but proved very effective.

England had a much better start with Maddy smashing them around early on. Vikram Solanki, who was keeping as Matt Prior has a broken finger fell in the 8th over being Kevin Pietersen to the crease. Pietersen made a brisk 24 before being outdone by Daniel Vettori to make the score 4/103 in the 14th over. Andrew Flintoff was run out for one but England were still in control with the required rate still only 9.8 an over. They restored control before a brilliant Shane bond over saw three wickets fall and the match slipped out of reach for England. They've been very disappointing so far, their specialist line-up has done nothing.

Game 18, Super Eights - Australia vs Pakistan at Johannesburg

Australia started poorly with Matthew Hayden getting out for just one. Adam Gilchrist then teed off, making 24 from 12 balls before falling to Sohil Tanvir. Australia's middle order then scored most of the runs with most of the batters getting solid starts. No-one could really get going and the Aussies made it 7/164 from their 20 overs.

Sohail Tanvir bowled well taking 3/31 with his rather strange but effective bowling action.

Pakistan found themselves struggling at 4/48 with Stuart Clark taking three early wickets. However this brought Shoaib Malik and Misbah-ul-Haq to the crease. They batted sesnibly and effectively and together took Pakistan to victory with some very nice batting indeed. Their partnership realized 119 runs, the best fifth wicket partnership ever in International Twenty20 Matches.

Game 21, Super Eights - India vs England at Durban

As you probably know, Yuvraj Singh smashed Stuart Broad for 6 sixes in one over. It was a remarkable feat and also very good to watch. That was the highlight of the Indian innings as they reached 4/218 off their 20 over. Yuvraj Singh made 58 from just 16 balls, a truly devastating innings. Earlier, Virender Sehwag made 68 and Guatam Gambhir made 58.

England tried hard but they were never really in the hunt as the total proved too much. A range of players made starts but no-one made enough nor scored quick enough for them to get to the target score. India achieved victory by 18 runs.

Game 22, Super Eights - Australia vs Sri Lanka at Cape Town

Sri Lanka batted first and made a horrible start losing both Jayasuriya and Tharanga early. Things didn't get much better as Stuart Clark tore through the middle order taking match-winning figures of 4/20. It was a brillinat spell and left Sri Lanka's innings in tatters at 7/43. Mubarak and Vaas put together a small partnership but both fell as the run rate desperately needed boosting. Eventually, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 101 in the last over.

It didn't get better for the Lankans as Matthew hayden and Adam Gilchrist smashed their bowlers around the Cape Town Stadium as they cruised to a 10-wicket victory. Only Dilhara Frenando bowled well for Sri Lanka.

Game 24, Super Eights - South Africa vs India at Durban

The final game of the Super Eights and India were in trouble early after a brilliant spell by Shaun Pollock. They slipped to 4/61 in the 11th over before MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma came together to help haul India out of trouble. Sharma scored 50 not out and Dhnoi 45 as they lifted India to a reasonable total of 5/153.

South Africa's innings started disaterously with Herschelle Gibbs out in the second over for just one. Graeme Smith follwed three balls later and when AB de Villiers was trapped in front in the very next over, South Africa were 3/12. Mark Boucher added some stability with his 36 but wickets kept tumbling. Justin Kemp and Pollock fell withing successive balls with South Africa slipping to 5/31.

Albie Morkel and Boucher put on 69 D) runs for the 6th wicket, taking them 100. From here, South Africa needed just 20 from 21 balls to make the semi-finals (get ahead of New Zealand on Net Run Rate). They couldn't get there though, choking horribly as Harbhajan Singh strangled the bottom order and South Africa fell short at 9/116 meaning elimination from the tournament.

This means that the semi-final berths have been decided. The first semi will take place in Cape Town and will be between New Zealand and Pakistan. The second semi will be a day/night game involving Australia and India. That match will be in Durban.

Both games will take place on September 22. The winners will then play each in the Grand Final.

1st Semi Final - Pakistan vs New Zealand at Cape Town

New Zealand got off to a good start reaching 50 in the 8th over before Lou Vincent fell, Brendon McCullum went soon after and that was about it as far as the batters were concerned. Only Ross Taylor scored any runs from there as the middle and lower order failed to score anything of significance. Daniel Vettori was run out for a diamond duck (run out without facing a ball)!

Umar Gul was the start with the ball for Pakistan, taking 3/15 off his four overs. Fawad Alam took 2/29.

In reply, Pakistan cruised to the traget score, reaching it in 18.5 overs. Imran Nazir starred early, making 59 runs and made sure Pakistan kept up with the required rate. Shoaib Malik and Misbah-ul-Haq finished the game off as Pakistan won by 6 wickets.

2nd Semi Final - Australia vs India at Durban

Australia started off very well with the ball keeping India to just 2/48 from the first nine overs. But that was the end of the bowling economy as India shifted up a few gears and started to pelt the Australia attack around the Durban ground. Yuvraj Singh was the star, and continuing on from his demolition of the England attack a few days earlier smashed the Aussie bowling attack, making 70 in the process. Robin Uthappa provided good support at the other end and MS Dhoni finished off the innings with 36.

Micth Johnson was the only multiple run scorer for the Australians.

Australia started well but lost Adam Gilchrist in the 6th over. Matthew Hayden powered on regardless and was given good support from Andrew Symonds after Brad Hodge came and went for 11. Hayden was dismissed for 62 and when SYmonds went two overs later, that was it as far as the chase was concerned. The total proved too much as no-one could score the boundaries that Australia needed.

Sreesanth, Pathan and Joginder Sharma all took two wickets for India with Sreesanth having the very impressive figures of 2/12 from four overs.
