Re: Vermeulen banned for 10 years

Ten years seems really excessive. He's either going to have to retire or move to a different country and start over. Maybe Bangladesh could use Vermeulen.

Cricinfo misconduct reports are so informative. They dont even tell you how or why the incident started.

Re: Vermeulen banned for 10 years

What a bloody stupid thing to do. Ten years may seem excessive, but then again he was putting spectators at risk - men, women and child. Certainly shouldn't be tolerated.

Re: Vermeulen banned for 10 years

 wow!

"He got hit for a boundary then bowled a wide and someone from the crowd shouted 'If you take your sunnies off you'll be able to see where you are bowling.' At the end of the over he marched towards the boundary and appeared to hurl a ball towards the spectators. It hit the railings so missed everyone, but it was an end-of-season match with plenty of women and children watching.

"He then picked up a boundary marker, which are white discs with a steel spike, before being stopped by a Werneth member and marched back to the pavilion, still swearing and shouting . He was then driven away from the ground and took no further part in the match. "

holy crap, thats nuts. if there is a funny thing about is that it shows how bad his bowling/throwing is- his missed the fans when he threw it! :D

Seems a little excessive for his actions
I don't know, throwing stuff at the fans is a pretty serious offense. If he came even close to endangering young children, that can't be tolerated.

On the other hand, Cantona kicked a fan, and was only suspended for 9 months.

9 months was pretty much the longest ban for the Indiana Pacers brawl in the Detroit stands too.

Hmm, compared to those two examples, 10 years is certainly excessive.

So what actually happened here?

Read the link in the first post.

Looks like he has appealled and it has been reduced to a 3 year ban with the 2nd and 3rd years suspended. This is a more suitable and realistic ban imposed by the Lancashire board which is good.

Re: Vermeulen banned for 10 years

Classic. :D

10 years is a joke, 24 months would have been more appropriate.

Re: Vermeulen banned for 10 years

That's crazy!

Edit: Ah it got reduced to three years.
