After four rounds the big suprise for me is Footscray-Edgewater in the top half of the table, there young guys with 30-40 games (Kight,Dean,Barton & co) look to be going ok and with skipper Russ in good nick things are looking good for the dogs. On the other side of the coin last season's grand finalist Ringwood have only won the one game.

Standouts with the bat:

Hill (Camberwell)
Chasemore (Frankston) I have my doubts if he will finish the season at FPCC
Butterworth (Geelong) 2 ton's already
Rummans (St.Kilda)
Pilon (Carlton)

With the ball:

Miller (Prahran)
Smith (Melbourne)
Haberfield (Footscray Edgewater)

Have all taken over 10 wickets.

Weather permitting of course.

Heard a rumour about Hawthorn.

Adrian Johnstone xe prahran and hawthorn player who has been working with the comets will coach with Anthony McGuire his deputy.

Simon Helmot to be involved in an advising role.

However, apparently they have 1 year to find a new home!

Watch this space

Dandenong and Frankston both saying they are talking to an ex state player, Will Sheridan being mentioned.
Fair to say Frankston need all the help they can get. Losing Herrick to Tassie also.

Any thoughts on Cricket Victoria parting ways with Kookaburra and hooking up with Gray-Nicolls/Platypus?

Terrible decision but my understanding is that clubs can have a choice between Kookaburra and Platypus.

The move to Platypus is nearly as bad as playing mid week t20 games for points.

Are you sure you shouldn't be called the DVCA for using Platypus balls??
They are nothing short of crap, trust me I use them every week and all the clubs complain how bad they are.
Are they even made here?? terrible decision, there's at least 10 other brands to look at before you swap a kooka with a platypus,
bowlers are going to have a field day they swing and cut so early and then they just disintegrate were you can't get a wicket and become so soft you can't get runs. Good luck to the genius that made that decision.

If thats what happens on synthetic pitches imagine what turf is going to do to them. Unfortunately their reputation from last year in the DVCA precedes them. I wonder what consultation was made before the change from Kookaburra.

Two teams have used Platypus balls in the past. Have played against one of those teams in a one day match and the ball was very difficult to play with for both teams after 30 overs.

Obviously it's a commercial decision by CV to do this but I would think most clubs would stick to the use of Kookaburra balls in mainly the 1st and 2nd eleven matches and probably trial the Platypus balls in the 3rds and 4ths.

Premier Playing Structure 2014-15

Following a wide ranging consultation with clubs, coaches and players, the Delegates voted for the following:
  • All grades to play 17 rounds – therefore play every club once
  • To increase the match points of Twenty20 matches from 2 to 4 points
  • Increase the season buffer of Penalty Overs from 10 to 15 overs
  • Introduce a “White Ball Final” – a one day match for Top Two teams of each grade based on points earned from the One Day and T20 formats
  • Increase overs for 1st XI and 2nd XI two day matches from 90 to 96 overs to match First Class playing conditions
  • Change sessions for 1st XI and 2nd XI two day matches to three 2 hour sessions
  • Earliest finish for 1st XI and 2nd XI two day matches to be 5pm
  • Clubs can select from a range of Cricket Victoria approved balls to use
