What sports help cricket?

Re: What sports help cricket?

Probably hockey. I'm going to give it a go next winter. Should be good for hand-eye as well as keeping up your fitness

Re: What sports help cricket?

Racquet sports are good for hand eye co-ordination, especially in terms of having a ball/shuttlecock etc coming at you.

Re: What sports help cricket?

Yeah, Racquet sports great for hand-eye. Plus, they're also great for improving your lateral movement capacities (side to side).

But there are benefits to be had from all of them. I don't play any soccer/ football, but I imagine it would be great for developing your accelaration and, even more importantly, decaleration abilities (great strength and power marker). Rugby, apart from being great for developing a strength platform (even if a little different from that required for cricket), is great for developing an understanding of your body - how you move, how to get into your strongest and most explosive positions, developing great core strength, etc.

And Badminton is just fun.

Re: What sports help cricket?

well ive got a great one! weve just entered a 6 a side indoor cricket league!

Re: What sports help cricket?

I'm with Liz, rugby all the way!! The strength and stamina, though not necessarily the same types, transfer well into cricket as does the explosive element and to some extent the high catching element. Skiing is probably good too in terms of core strength, balance and practising a strong 'neutral' position, as well as being mint fun!!

Re: What sports help cricket?

Nah too many men touching each other to be "fun". and i'm sure liz has an alterior motive for rugby!

How bout snow boarding? thats where i will be in february!

Re: What sports help cricket?

lol, I can see where you're coming from but nah it's good fun - why try and hit someone with a ball when you can just go up and deck them??

Snowboarding has a different kind of posture to skiing and I don't think it uses core strength in the same way but the balance element would still be there.
