Where have all the yorkers gone?

Watching the Aussies play Pakistan the other night and pakistan smashing boundries at the end there were no yorkers bowled. You would think with all the limited over cricket played these days that bowlers would have becomed more skilled. It really shows how much we miss Lee, McGrath and Bracken who could bowl yorkers well at the death.

Watching Victoria play in the T20 final the other night there were little yorkers bowled until McDonald come on and was able to take some crucial wickets and keep the runs down with them.

I think there is definatly a need for our bowlers to bowl better at the death and to be able to bowl yorkers.

Bowling yorkers isn't as easy as it sounds, batsmen these days are very good at changing up a bowlers length. Watch closey and you see good batsmen when they are going the tonk alter the length of the ball from the crease, Haddin often steps back in the crease as the ball is bowled predicting that the bowler will try for a yorker, stepping back allows him to get under the ball.

And yet guys like Brett Lee do it on command, even with some reverse or conventional swing with it. Nathan Bracken lands it where he wants, when he wants. It's very hard to bowl a yorker, but then you do have to select at least one bowler that can bowl the yorker. Siddle, Bollinger and McKay have no idea how to bowl a good lenth, let along a yorker.

It seems it is hard to bowl a yorker, but when you are good at it it's worth its weight in gold. Bracken, Lee and McGrath consistantly bowled them in at the death for good results.
