Why isn't Phil Hughes in the ODI team?

Re: Why isn't Phill Hughes in the ODI team?

i dont think hes attempting to get in the side. i agree that he may be good and may get some runs, but there are better options until he decides to go for that spot as well, if he does. no use putting someone in the side if they arent trying to be there.

id like to see warner opening in ODIs as well, but only if the middle order gets sorted and consistently puts on some runs. hes a little bit like gilchrist, sometimes he fires sometimes he doesnt, and when he doesnt he gets out quickly and cheaply, at least the gilly a little out of form anyway. if the middle order can prove that they can make up the deficit caused by him getting out early, then why not have someone who could blast you a quick 50-100, or get out early in his innings and not waste anytime getting the next batsman in to build their innings? its a risk, but its the sort of risk the australian team should make and always have made, they just have to ensure the rest of the team knows what the risk involves and steps up to ensure it gets pulled off. no use warner failing and then the middle order failing as well. i would rather the opening partnership be warner and marsh, put haddin back down once, and only once, the middle order proves itself capable.
thats what i would like anyway, and things i want dont always work...

hughes just scored is maiden one day century in county cricket after only averaging just over 18 for the past 6 games. his century was in vain as the opposing team led by langer chased them down easily, with help of langer's 79 off 69 balls with 4 fours and a six. langer is in almost as much form as hughes is now, scoring well in both unlimited and limited overs matches.

not sure if this century puts him in the australian ODI opening position or not, only averaged 18 up until now (29 currently).
