World Cricket League Division 1 in Nairobi

All the tune-ups are done, illnesses are (hopefully) in the past, and the teams are assembling in the relative temperate that is Nairobi for the first World Cricket League Division 1 tournament. This is as big as it gets for the top 6 Associate countries, as they battle for ODI supremacy; as well as two spots in next year's Twenty20 World Cup.

The format is a round robin, followed by a one-off final to decide the winner. The matches will be contested over 10 days at three different grounds in Nairobi, and it will be a veritable beehive of activity as the teams look to show that they are the best. CricketEurope have assembled a team there and will provide comprehensive coverage of the tournament, including a large amount of LIVE coverage. I, for one, am super-excited for this one.

That's cool. Will they be covering 2 out of 3 matches every day? Just the Euro matches? Or is it still up in the air?

I was happy with the scorecard updates we got from Mombasa. It's not the same as live commentary, but you can still follow the match as it unfolds.

Re: World Cricket League Division 1 in Nairobi

All the matches involving The Netherlands, Kenya, and Scotland are going to be carried live. Simply put, their cricket associations ponied up for the coverage, and the others didn't. I think the lads will also be covering the final, regardless of who is in it.

I know Rod Lyall (who will be covering the Dutch games) did commentary and scoring when he covered the earlier matches in Pretoria. Hopefully John and Nick will also be including commentary, it makes it that much more exciting when somebody is squeaking out a win against Canada.

That's 12 out of 15 matches. Good enough for me. 2 simultaneous matches would be more than enough to keep me happy, and on the days we get a third, I'll just sit there clicking constantly from page to page.

Also, isn't the ICC including WCL or World Cup Qualifier television rights in it's tv package deal? Was it one of those or both of them? It'd be great to see Associate cricket on tv someday.

Re: World Cricket League Division 1 in Nairobi

Anybody else hoping the Ireland and Netherlands win tomorrow, so we can wind up with a nice little 4-way tie? It would certainly make the final 2 matchdays thrilling.

Things are starting to take shape after as we are past the halfway point of the tournament. Kenya and Scotland have established themselves as the teams to beat, and barring a total collapse they will be in the finals at the end. Ireland, the Netherlands, and Canada each are on 2 points, and Bermuda are still looking for a win. Another rest day tomorrow, and then Sunday brings round 4.

ok, the final is Kenya v Scotland. Scotland beat Kenya in the round robin right? how did that match go? this tournament went by way too fast!

Re: World Cricket League Division 1 in Nairobi

Talk about surprises and upsets, who would have thought Ireland would end up in second last place, and Bermuda beating Scotland.

Like I said this game of cricket is so unpredictable.
