what made langer better than he acturaly was was batting with hayden. he was nothing more than solid at best. you would surley put Smith in there more consistant, better record and capatancy. then for smiths replacement.
sehwag

to put lee in ahead of pollock is stupidy apart from having blonde hair and bowling quick lee was and is nothing more than a tomato thrower. who was aided buy warne and magrath to even look much better than he was

Everyone's entitled to their opinions; let's refrain from attacking people's intelligence thanks.

Re: World Test Team Of The Decade

Why am I the only person to mention Mohammad Yousuf (formerly Yousuf Yohanna)?

Statistically he has the second best average (58) of any batsmen 2000-2009 - and overall he comes in at number 3 for any batsmen in the 2000s (Andy Flower 2000-2002 is at the top). For all you Tendulkar lovers, he comes in at number 14 (53). Furthermore its worth mentioning that during that time he played more games away from home

Re: World Test Team Of The Decade

Yousuf probably loses some points for not performing consistently overseas. He averages in the low 30s in Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka. Given that AUS and SA were probably 2 of the top 3 teams for most of the '00s that counts against him a bit.

In contrast, Ponting's only unconquered territory is India and Tendulkar has pretty much performed everywhere (he has a crap record in Sri Lanka but he only played one 3 test series there).

This is a good lineup, but I would have Sewhag instead of Smith

Has Sehwag played as well as he had lately for a majority of the decade?

Re: World Test Team Of The Decade

He took a couple of years to get started, but IIRC his average has hovered consistently between 50-55 since 2003 or so.

I'd do a cumulative averages query on Cricinfo if I wasn't too lazy.

Re: World Test Team Of The Decade

Then that's definitely fits the criteria then.

Smith has been a great captain, but unless you are picking him for his captaincy then I would think his batting isn't strong enough.

Re: World Test Team Of The Decade

Langer
Strauss
Tendulkar
Ponting
Lara
anyone remember Steve Waugh?
Gilchrist
Pollock
Gillespie
McGrath
McGill
12th Man GB Hogg worlds greatest 12th man possibly ever

or
Hayden
Smith
Sehwag
Gibbs
Sangakkara
Kallis
Flintoff
Vaas
Bond
Lee
Muralitharan
12th Man GB Hogg worlds greatest 12th man possibly ever

Personally I prefer the second one mainly because of bond and vaas, far more exciting to watch.

Re: World Test Team Of The Decade

I'm actually thinking Symonds may be the best 12th man ever (despite the lack of being a 12th man in his career).

- He is a brilliant fielder, so chuck him on anytime.

- He definitely knows how to pour a drink on and off the field.

- He will stand up for the team in any way possible.

- Great friend of everyone in the team, and will take anyone fishing.

- Always has something funny to say.

That there is the perfect 12th man!

Re: World Test Team Of The Decade

good choice boris.
I am vouching for Bond's inclusion. Sure he only played 18 tests but he has a strike rate that some international bowlers wouldn't mind as their average. 38.7 is just mind boggling
