Australia in India

Re: Australia in India

Australians aren't doing too well. Can't read much into the practice game though. It's just to help them acclimatise to the conditions. Better to fail in a practice game than in the games that matter.

Re: Australia in India

McGain has been sent home now, which I assume means he won't be fit for any of the tests. Big pressure on Krezja, you never know though - it might be the making of him.

Yeah pitty about McGain, Krejza got spanked out there today.

Good to see Johnson pick up 3 wickets despite every man and his dog wanting to sack him.

Agree.

I rate MJ, like him alot.

Re: Australia in India

The Indian President's board was bowled out for 455, Patel managed to make 50 and went on to score 62 before being bowled by Peter Siddle. Irfan Pathan continued Australia's frustration by also getting past 50, he made 56 with Siddle again involved in the dismissal, taking the catch to give Stuart Clark his second. Clark and Johnson added to their wicket tallies again. Johnson was Australia's best bowler with 4/72 while Clark claimed 3/67.

Australia's start was ordinary with Hayden and then Katich making starts but not going on with it. Hayden fell for 20 and Katich 15 as Australia slipped to 2/54. That became 3/91 when Ponting by bowled by Piyush Chawla for 41 and became even worse still when Michael Clarke fell the same way, bowled by Chawla for 18 as Australia slipped to 4/123. However, Michael Hussey and Brad Haddin lead a mini fightback and Australia are 4/191 at stumps, Hussey is up to 53 and haddin is on 34.

A lot of work for Australia to do tomorrow, Hussey and Haddin would have to score centuries if Australia want to stave off a big first innings deficit. The tail too will need to score some runs in support.

Re: Australia in India

Mike Hussey batted very well for 126* to give Australia a modest total of 314.

In reply so fay IBP XI are currently 2/39, 180 runs in front.

Sporting declaration perhaps?

Re: Australia in India

India batting really well, pushing their overall lead up to 236.

Draw is on the cards, as they usually are in these tour matches.

Re: Australia in India

I really like Cameron White, he has plenty of potential as an explosive ODI batsmen and is very good in the field. But Test Matches? Bowling?

What am I missing?

Re: Australia in India

I don't mind White but geez, he isn't a test player. If he's the third best spinner we have, then our spinning stocks are in dire straits. The funny thing is, he isn't even a bowler, he's a batter who bowls a bit.

Surely Casson should be there in front of White, they've dropped Beau pretty quickly after that Windies tour. It's like the boyfriend who never calls after the one-night stand.

Casson: "Hi Cricket Australia, I had a really good time in the Carribean, can we do it again sometime soon?
Cricket Australia: "Who are you?"

Ha ha.

Yeah it is a bit strange they didn't give Casson another go.

Re: Australia in India

Because Casson is shit, Aussies are probably looking at playing the 4 quicks with the part timers making up the spinning options as they are all better than Krezja

White should have toured ahead of Watson anyway

Re: Australia in India

Well they have made us toil away in the field today.

Jaffer went onto making 93 and Yuvraj Singh made 114 that included 7 big sixes.

Kattich dismissed for 5, Australia 1/14.

Re: Australia in India

Krezja is going to have a tough time in this series. 31-2-199-0 is pretty bad.

Re: Australia in India

2/55 now, Hayden trapped in front by Chawla who is having a pretty good game. Pontin has moved to 29 with Clarke just joining him at the crease and is on one.

Australia need 379 runs to win and there's 35 overs left today.

Re: Australia in India

Australia have moved along pretty well, Ponting is lookming pretty good and is now 51 not out, an innings which includes 7 fours and 2 sixes. Michael Clarke is still there on 29. Overall, they are 2/109, requiring 325 to win from 23 overs. Obviously they isn't going to be achieved.

If Ponting can remain not out and score 61 or better he will conclude the game with a first class average of at least 60. If Ponting was to get out, he would need to score 121 or better to finish with an average of 60 or more.

Re: Australia in India

Game finishes in a draw and is called off in the last hour.

Australia finish up 2/127, Ponting scored 58 not out and Clarke 36 not out. Ponting has a first-class batting average of 59.99 now, we'll have to wait until the test to see if he can nudge it over 60.

Australia will come away with more questions than answers after a below-par performance by them, their batting was put under intense pressure in the first innings and the outcome wasn't promising except for a brilliant knock from Michael Hussey. They'll be slightly worried that second top score went to Stuart Clark, who batted at number eleven.

Clark bowled well in the second innings but he played a lone hand with the exception of Brett Lee who took the only other wicket to fall. Jason Krejza had an absolute shocker, leaking more than six an over in both innings and failing to take a wicket. Australia will be slightly worried with that and the chances of the Aussies playing four quicks in the first test is becoming a lot greater than what it was a month ago.

Ponting managed to have a good hit out in the second dig and looks to be in decent touch. He and Hussey will look to lead from the front for the first test.

Not long now until the real stuff gets underway, the first test starts in Bangalore on October 9.
