Australia in India

Re: Australia in India

Jeez, this is going to be a bloody tough series for the young team. With Krezja ending up being crap, to say the least, against a second string Indian side, maybe the four quicks may be an option, although Tait flinging pieces of crap at the WACA does still haunt me.

Good to see Punter in some form of form, but the last time I said that it didn't turn out to be so, so fingers crossed. Hussey showed once again that he can grind when he needs to grind. Clark showed he is the best Test number 11, oh and can bowl a bit.

All together this could be a bit of an interesting series, not too sure who to call just yet, although India at home may just have enough

Bring back Warnie :)

Though even the great man was average against India, tough for anyone trying to start out against the Indians.

Because he's Victorian?

Because he is a spin bowling option and explosive batsman so a better replacement for team balance. Watson is 99% likely to break down and as all his deluded supporters always said, he shouldnt be batting below the top 4 because he is a superstar top order batsman, so seeing as he cant bat below 4 and isnt good enough to replace those that are currently in the top 4, Watson shouldnt get a game

But I wont be complaining if Watson is lining up in the 1st Ashes test next year :D

Re: Australia in India

This has the potential to be a great series but I have a sneaking feeling it may well be a damp squib.

Australia are going to be seriously hampered by their lack of spin options.

First Test: India vs Australia at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

The first test gets underway in less than 24 hours in one of the most anticipated series yet between the two sides. India go into the game with talks of retirement with Sourav Ganguly deciding to retire after the series. Anil Kumble said this will be his last test in front of his home crowd and there have been constant rumours of Tendulkar calling it quits in the not too distant future.

Australia on the other hand have gotten over their retirements and the team enters a new phase with a mix of new and not-so-new players coming into the squad. Quite amazingly, Australia's specialist bowlers have never bowled a ball in a test against India, something which may count against them, particularly early on in the series. Despite lacking experience on the sub-continent, Brett Lee, Stuart Clark, Mitchell Johnson will still trouble India with their raw pace and not to mention Clark's accuracy and Lee's newfound control of the new cherry. One of Jason Krejza and Cameron White will debut in this game, the spinner's spot still very much up in the air despite the game being less than a day away. Expect Michael Clarke to bowl a few overs here too with his left-arm orthodox spinners.

India's line-up is more stable with Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan to form the pace battery. Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh will play as the spinners, a combo that has worked well for them in recent times. This is also the first time that Harbhajan has come up against Australia since the infamous series held back in Australia. There will be some fireworks no doubt when Harbhajan is given the ball. The first test is also the beginning of the end for India's stalwarts, with the five soon to become a four after Ganguly retires.

The pitch looks to be a good one if you're a pace bowler, the first two days will suit the seamers but as with most Indian pitches, it will gradually favour the spinners as the game progresses. India's weather will also play a part with showers and storms predicted for the entire period of the match.

This game is shaping up as a fierce encounter with both teams looking to again as ascendency early in the series. India will go in favourites with a stable line-up and home ground advantage but what can the new-look Australian side do? We'll find out soon enough.

Shytest decision. Great way to start the series.

shocker..... dont expect anything else from the indians.
appealing for EVERYTHING. worst sportsman in world sport.
if it doesnt go their way, theyre out of here, yet can say and do what they want. they say money talks, well maybe they should share it round instead of having 80% of the country on the street or slums.

Re: Australia in India

Both sides went in as expected so no late changes.

Australia have played pretty well despite the early loss of Hayden for a duck. They're 1/80 in the 3rd over after lunch, Ponting is on 44 and Katich is 30 not out.

Zaheer Khan was the wicket-taker, Hayden was given caught behind but it looked like the bat hit the pad rather than the ball, nevertheless he's out.

Pitch is favouring the batters, Khan and Ishant Sharma bowled well early but the pitch has proven to be quite unrewarding. There also appears to be little in it for the spinners, Harbhajan and Kumble aren't troubling Ponting or Katich all that much.

Re: Australia in India

Pencil this one in for a draw already. If 32 overs from Harbhajan and Kumble can't yield a wicket, there's no way 'straight-break' White will be able to do anything

This is only the first day, the pitch could deteriorate.

Does that have anything to do with this topic?
You talk as if the Australians wouldn't have appealed for that. There was enough doubt in it to deserve an appeal and the umpire gave it.

Not sure why they don't have referrals for this series after all the controversy that happened the last time.

Re: Australia in India

Nice work from Ponting, ably assisted by Katich and now Hussey. The run rate is decent too (~3rpo). I'm surprised that it is a batting pitch at all - everyone was predicting a pitches you could turn a ball inside-out on to favour the home team? Though I suppose it could break up later - good toss to win.

Does anyone know if there is an audio commentary available online?

Re: Australia in India

Australia 2/202, Ponting survives a caught and bowled attempt, appears the ball was dug out by Ponting into the ground and the ball flew to Kumble.

Ponting has a century now, 111 not out and Hussey is onto 18. Katich was out for 66, caught behind to Sharma.

Re: Australia in India

that wasn't a caught and bowled. it was a definate bumped ball. kumble should just go and retire he is holding back a younger spinner.

Hayden's out already, oh well no fire works from him this innings.

To be fair it wasnt out.

However Ponting was out on 110, C&B Kumble, not given.

Evened it out somewhat.
