I think if camrea come in it will make several of the struggling Barclay shield sides nervous, maybe that might sway their vote. i say make them wait and lets see how greensborough go.

how many teams a year would ask to join the DVCA?

There arent any struggling Barclay sides.Anyone definately good enough on their day.Probably strongest the Valley has been for 5 years.Camrea would be good for our competition long term and will definately make the comp flourish in the future as well as Borough would.Lets not celebrate mediocrity and give them a chance. My team had a good year last year but we know that we will always be under the pump and if we arent good enough one year we will have to fight back.

One Shot......Dont get caught up in the Camrea show mate.....thay are a good side, but with a couple of guys leaving and them finding there feet in the dvca, they will be competitive in Money and would get touched up in Barcley.

your probably right with Camrea but will have to do it tough like all the other Jika teams did.Camrea not a definite starter yet.
*Brad Dean re-appointed at Bundoora.

*DVCA - will remain in the boundaries of Whittlesea, Banyule & Nillimbik.
Expect 3-4 nominations from Heidleberg comp next year to join. Would have to be then 3 divisions of 10. Would mean 3 teams to be relegated from Barclay the next season or Money premier stays put and only 2 down.

*Believe Money Shield will play extra one day games to enable everyone to play each other once this season (assuming Camrea get in)

*Sunday Cricket is high on the agenda. All grades to share the load this year with most grades playing at least 1 if not 2 sunday fixtures.

Heard - Unless we get rain might be a shortened season with the local councils already concerned over the state of some grounds. Barclay, Money & reserves should be right but no guarantee on other grades past Christmas. :-(

MACLEOD CC APPOINTS JASON LANCASTER PLAYING COACH
It is with great pleasure that Macleod Cricket Club announces the appointment of Jason Lancaster as playing coach for the 2009-10 season. Jason comes to Macleod with an outstanding record over the past seven seasons with Preston Baseballers in the Northern Metropolitan Cricket Association (formerly the Jika Cricket Association). Previously, Jason had played with YCW in the Heidelberg District Cricket Association and he brings a wealth of experience in terms of playing, coaching and administration.

Re: DVCA: Player movements and rumours

Been off line of late, bit to catch up on. Three points caught my eye.

1. Jezz is a great bat from what I hear, stats speak volumes. But from memory he did have a run around in the valley a few years ago and didnt dominate in the same way he does in Jika? Does anyone has a good memory of his year in the valley?

2. I'd be happy to not have Epping or Lalor in the DVCA, thier teams below Barclay Res are a joke. Camrea can stay out as well.

3. Snowy off to another club, didnt need a crystal ball to see that, never seems to last to long at any club, wonder why. At least we might get to hear about clubs other than Mernda this year.

113 sleeps.

1.Jezz.Terrible batsman only made 1 ton and 3 50's.Took a great ball to get him out in final
2.Yes you would be happy for Epping and Lalor not to be in DVCA.Yes their bottom teams are average but who cares.
3.Snowy is a Premiership player are you?Jealousy is not a virtue.Mediocrity is a flaw.
4.I guess you better start getting your name up in lights because you have just bagged a 3 time Jika medalist/Premiership player,a multiple finals contender/flag winner,an up and coming club/Grand Finalists and a Premiership player/2008-09 Flag winners.
PUSSY!

Re: DVCA: Player movements and rumours

Word around the traps is Camrea are no certain starters yet. Big push from NMCA to retain their premier club. Interesting times ahead for local cricket.

. No doubt Jezz's ability (now the second time I have written it) just dont think he dominated last time he played DVCA.

Who cares how many flags snowy has one, he's still snowy and off to his 6th club, I'm a big fan of loyalty myself.

Big call....care to name some clubs, also, sounds like, not many of you guys support local footy or does the change of name, D.V.F.L to N.F.L erase the so-called boundaries of JED CLAMPETTSVILLE.

A few points if I may:

1) Not sure what the DVFL (NFL) have to do with the DVCA. Two totally separate entities.

2) Not 100% but I beleive the name change to NFL was for legal reasons. They had to get away from the DVFL name and the NFL was chosen from a list of possibles.

3) HDCA is struggling and has been for a while. No ones fault just a sign of the times. Don't need to name club names, but I think there are only 4-5 clubs that fit into our boundaries. Would these clubs rather stay in a sub standard competition or move to the strongest comp in the area? What would you do?

Re: DVCA: Player movements and rumours

They have some good young players Greensborough, they have lost Graeme Pavey i believe gone back to Plenty but should be very interesting. They didnt make Finals last year but in a new competetion there is always a case of uncertainty when you havent faced those bowlers or bowled to there batsman so i think will be a challenging year for them and for other sides aswell! They should do allright but its all about if they settle quick enough because we all know how important winning early games are!

My sources tell me that the Franks have lost 3 key players to a rival club in Money Shield thus discounting them from the coming season's final series.
Have missed a huge opportunity to go up to Barclay last season having played a NEW team that played well above themselves on the day. Thank Christ we won't have to read about them on this forum this season as they fall down the ladder fighting it out with some other average sides to avoid the spoon.

The Picker is Back!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can anyone shed any light on why Graeme would leave greensborough after only one season?

I would only be guessing to say that Greensborough and him would part company only if Greensborugh came to the valley.

I have heard that he was carrying a lot of injuries last year
I have heard that he may look after the 2's at Plenty this year
I have heard that Paves' coaching style didnt suit Borough.

Dont know how much of this is true and dont really care but what I've heard people say.

Re: DVCA: Player movements and rumours

I'm interested in peoples thoughts on a recent captain / coach appointment in Barclay Shield. Apparantley the player in question will get a fair bit of coin to Captain/Coach (fair enough) but can only train with the club one night a week. Do you think a Captain/Coach of a Barclay Shield club should train twice a week irrespective of who they are and which club they play with?

You use the word apparantley!!! Contracts between clubs and coach"s always gets blown out...Each club has different needs, some clubs are more financial than others. If he is committed to the club whats the problem??If he has the ability to manage training on the main night good for him and the club. I"m sure if he is making runs and the club is winning at the end of the day who really cares?

Re: DVCA: Player movements and rumours

Not sure why you have an issue with the use of the word "apparently". I have not mentioned any amounts but lets just say he will be getting paid.
So to summarise your thoughts it could be an issue if:
A/ he struggles to make runs
B/ the team starts losing
Could be an interesting year ahead.

Are you talking about Lalor Stars ( Alex Jessnesek ) or Macleod ( jason Lancaster)?

(not having a dip at either bloke, but as far as i am aware they are the only two new coaching appoitments, except Corey & Phil who are joint coaches of Epping)
I'm sure the respective clubs must have been happy with the arrangements otherwise they wouldn't have appointed them.

i think it also depends on the quality of player - if there performances are very good it probably won't be an issue, but when/if things aren't going to plan, thats when the knockers will be out ie " how can they perform if he's never here" etc etc

in terms of money, it depends on what the club thinks more important. Player might get X amount because the club feels the greatest influence he can have is on the playing field where i know in my case i'm never going to be a superstar on Saturdays but i have a big influence on the playing group during the week. Hence the fact my $25,000 cheque is justified.
