Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

The Dutch have a better fast bowler than Lee, he actually does scare batsman still :D

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

with all the protective gear and the unnecessarily good bats there isnt much need to feel scared anymore though.

sometimes i wonder what some of the older big hitters could have done with bats and protective gear like they have today.

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

Yes Boris, we can see that you like him. Hard as it is for you to accept though, he is not doing a job. It's not just about one over either. He conceded more in 8 overs than anyone else has come close to (non)achieving. Take that over out, and it still looks bad. The no-balls are unacceptable in T20 cricket.
He is bowling at pace again, which is good for him, but the grounds are small and pitches not conducive to his type. Good upper order batsmen, and sloggers, will just help him over the fence. He is not a good swing bowler at all - I don't know who told you that. Even change of pace/length is not working. If anyone raved about him, it was probably because he was doing well. He hasn't since, and that is why he is being criticised.
The evidence is there sadly, Boris. Just have a look at it as impartially as you can. Hopefully he will be of use on this tour, but this is not his favourite continent.

Eddie, I like your thinking, but even as a fellow proponent of a good Vic I don't reckon our interstate colleagues will allow us so many rep's in any national team! Having said that, Vic's good record in T20's is no accident, and it hasn't been recognised as well as it should in this regard. White has done well previously, and can hit the ball over the fence - something we previously thrived on and haven't done as well since departures of Gilchrist, Hayden, Symonds (and form of Mussey!).

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

Hodge, White and Dussey filling 3 of the top 5 places isnt too much to ask for and all of them have a better T20I record than any other member of the Australian batting lineup bar Warner

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

Pakistan against the Netherlands is proving to be a pretty good game. Pakistan are 4/156 from 18 overs, Kamran Akmal made 41 opening the innings, Younis Khan was just out for 36 from only 20 balls and Shoaib Malik was out earlier for 30.

Pieter Seelaar has two wickets, the only mutiple wicket-taker for the Dutch team.

Pakistan would need at least 170 here, Afridi has just got to the crease so they'd be confident of doing that.

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

Pakistan scored 5/175 in the end. Netherlands require 151 runs to advance on Net Run Rate.

They're 1/23 after 3.5 overs at the moment, Reekers was out for 13 in the second over to Mohammad Aamer, caught at deep mid-wicket.

It's going to be very close, Pakistan will rue not getting closer to England if they are unsuccessful tonight.

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

Netherlands have slumped to 8/79, Afridi has starred with the ball, taking 4/10 from four overs. Saeed Amjal picked two wickets early on to put Netherlands into a hole and they haven't recovered from there.

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

Last night saw Sri Lanka defeat West Indies by 15 runs and India thrash Ireland by eight wickets.

Jun 11: England v South Africa at Nottingham (17:30 local, 16:30 GMT)

Jun 12: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Lord's (13:30 local, 12:30 GMT)

Jun 13: South Africa v West Indies at The Oval (13:30 local, 12:30 GMT)

Jun 13: New Zealand v Pakistan at The Oval (17:30 local, 16:30 GMT)

Some pretty good games coming up. Eng vs RSA, Pak vs SL and NZ vs Pak should all be pretty good games. West Indies have a tough draw having to play two games in less than 24 hours against India and South Africa. For them to make the semis, they'll need to win at least one of those games.

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

India vs. South Africa will be THE game to watch, two quality sides battling it out!

they are my two finalists.. Got form, the bowling both pace and spin, and power hitters. Toss a coin will tell you who wins.. Too close to call. :p

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

Some interesting results in the Super Eights. South Africa look to be the best team but after that it's a real log-jam. West Indies' defeat of India was a big surprise and Pakistan's up and down form continues.

Good to see Abdul Razzaq back in Pakistan colours after his stint in the ICL. It's great to see these players coming back to their international sides.

Next Six Super Eights Fixtures

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

Umur Gul reversing the ball after 12 overs. could be the difference in some games. Have they learnt from the poms and taken the cough lollies out with them too? SA are proving to powerful, however their lower order is lacking some game time. India will bounce back. Need ireland to beat SL and throw open group F.

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

So, India are gone from the tournament after a narrow loss to England. Their soft draw didn't do them many favours for the latter stages of the tournament and some poor play has cost them any chance of making the semi-finals. The English bowlers choked them early on last night and they were too far behind to get the win in the end.

Pakistan won into the semis today with an easy win over Ireland and they join South Africa in the semis. The winner of tonight's game between England and West Indies will get a spot in the semis and the same applies to the Sri Lanka vs New Zealand game tomorrow.

The England/West Indies game is only a few minutes away from starting. England won the toss and will bat first but the weather is looking ordinary with heavy rain reported about 16 kilometres away (10 miles).

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

Pollard gets the breakthrough who is strangely opening the bowling, Wright charged and got a huge top edge, Dinesh Ramdin called it and followed it to the off side where he took a good diving catch.

Wright's out for six and England are 1/9 from 1.3 overs.

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

West Indies ended up winning that game which put them into the semi finals.

Currently, New Zealand are taking on Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka batted first and made a respectable 5/158, Tillakaratne Dilshan top scored again with 48, Mehela Jayawardene scored 41 and Kumar Sangakkara chipped in with 35.

Daniel Vettori picked up 2/32 for New Zealand, Ian Butler, Kyle Mills and Nathan McCullum all took one wicket.

In reply, New Zealand are 1/39 from 4.3 overs. They lost Brendon McCullum early to Udana but Aaron Redmond has scored 23 off 12 balls to keep NZ at the required rate.

The winner of this game will make the semi-finals so the stakes are pretty high. Looks like this game will be pretty close also.

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

Just as I say that, Redmond is out. Malinga bowled a poor ball on leg-stump but the lack of pace deceived Redmond and he lobbed an easy catch to midwicket.

2/43 from five overs.

Re: Twenty20 World Cup Discussion/Match talk thread

Great over from Mendis, he picked up Taylor and Styris in the one over to bring Sri Lanka right back into the game but a good 10th over for NZ keeps them with the required rate.

4/77 the Kiwis, Guptill up to 31, Oram on one.
