General Chat 2011/12

Not balanced when the other team has an import spinner or quick bowl 20 on the trot to set the game in the first place....balance is bowling restrictions where each club has to bowl a kid or part timer!!! It promotes better cricket as it opens up scoring for batters....changes fields....makes captains think!!!
I actually can't believe where even debating this....
agree it makes a better game to have bowling restrictions and i support the push for a change.

just dont think the argument of a kid not getting a bowl should be used to push the case. Nothing stopping the club from telling the capt to give the kids a bowl, knowing that it might cost them a game.

if a kid doesnt get a bowl, he leaves/stops playing. the club suffers. the balance i was talking about was the balance in a "Team" where everyone plays their part which creats a good culture. thats up to the club to decide what balance they are after.

ie Club gets a gun player who does everything and wins a flag for them.....but then retires/leaves for a better offer in 3-4 years, or
club developes a team which then takes longer to win a flag.
Balance the two and you have a good club.

Isn't the whole objective to win? And if given the option would you go with your gun bowler to win ?? Every other one day game has restriction why are we so far behind?? And plus they already have bowling restriction in the dedicated one day vtca comps... Go figure

Redefine, Daleshack and 2bluesboss, by introducing one-day restrictions will only encourage myopes like you guys to surreptitiously seek the fixturing of more one-day games during the season regardless of weather conditions. Then you'll want trophies issued by the vtca, then you'll want a one-day grand final, then you'll want a one-day premiership flag and then you'll want your balls licked and polished. FAIR SUCK OF THE SAUCE BOTTLE.

You blokes obviously don't have a clue as to what it is that keeps suburban clubs strong and healthy. First a strong junior squad is a pre-requisite. Secondly the 80 over game enables players of most sides an opportunity to bat and bowl. With most sides bowling 6-7 bowlers in an innings. None of us are playing cricket in the vtca because we like one-day games. The less their are the better and I'm sure I speak for most. The only reason we play a fixtured one-day game is to balance the fixture.

The vtca has a one-day comp on a sunday (D2) Go and play in that or start your own one-day association and watch how fast your club disintergrates. Stop and listen to those seeing eye dogs barking at your heels. They're trying to tell you something.

Very intelligent, well thought out response.

I know at least two of the guys you mention, and they have a club with a super structure, good junior set up - and they just happen to think oen day restrictions would make the cricket better

And FYI, given i have been involved in this discussion as well - we have 4 Saturday teams, one Sunday one day side, a 60 strong Milo set up, and will have 7 junior sides this year - up from 3, 4 years ago - and I cant believe that the VTCA doesnt have one day restrictions, still has bonus points and (I might be on my own here) find the 4 day Grand Final staggering.

I'll just respond by stating I agree with the principle of playing as much two-day cricket as possible. Where a one-day match is fixtured or enforced due to weather I, and I speak for myself here, would like to see the format as close as possible to a one day match. I'm not reinventing the wheel, I've played in similar formats overseas. It works.

On the other points you raise I couldn't be arsed wasting time with them. Suffice to say you are a grade A Drongo.

Of course you wouldn't bother with the rest as it would be too much for you to come up with a decent alternitive

Bowling restictions placed on bowlers is all thats required 8 overs maximum would make it interesting and a challenge for the captain.
Team selection would have to be thought out and a balanced approach considered.
As for all the fancy stuff fielding restriction ringing the inner circle blah blah all a bit much for non profesional suburban clubs.
To get something up, simply give bowlers a Maximum amount to bowl easy to police etc.

Now that really is a very intelligent and well thought out response

What - he has to respond to somebody whose suggestions included having his “BALLS LICKED AND POLISHED”. That can only send the debate in the right direction

This discussion has been going on for as long as I have been on these fora, and a very large proportion of the players I spoke to last season thought it would improve the cricket that we played. If the VTCA listened to the players (yes I know we can bring it up through our delegates) then they would at least throw it up as an option for discussion at the meetings. As it is, the rule changes introduced by the VTCA relate to clearances, and umpire fees. Imagine if the clubs introduced a rule change reducing the amount paid to umpires!!

What you geese don't realise is that the clubs vote on it and if a club doesn't bring it up as a rule change, there is nothing to vote on !

Yep I'm on board with that.
