City Of Moorabbin Cricket Association 2011/12

Never said they did over rate themselves Jimmy. I responded to OG who commented that a lot of people are talking up Mackie. Not sure too many have been doing this. They have lost to the Juggeranut, Royals, should have lost to Burgers mob and scraped through against Chelsea Heights. A very good win against the Hoops but it seems everyone is making scores against the Hoops at the moment. Mackie are still to play the Beach Boys, Uniting(which could be carnage) Carnegie South, Golfers in the run home and let's not forget their usual scrap against the Cowboys. Mid table would be a good result.
Interesting article which i found:
I wonder how long before the CMCA is approached or forced?

Another Merger Scuttled

13/12/2011
The "M" word meets just enough opposition to scuttle Eastern CA's plans for a merger with the Southern District & Churches CL. ECA advises that a meeting planned for earlier this week, where it was widely tipped that their member Clubs would endorse plans to merge, had been cancelled. The decision came after SDCCL delegates narrowly rejected the proposal which fell just short of the necessary 75% majority.
An Eastern CA source said "This is disappointing to the executive members that have been working on the proposed merger. It will also be disappointing to the overwhelming number of ECA clubs that expressed their enthusiasm to improve our competition by merging the synthetic section. ..... The ECA executive still believes a merger between the two synthetic sections is in the best interests of member clubs, however understands the process will need to be reviewed."
There have been two other well advanced Metropolitan Association merger proposals reported here recently and of the three, this is the second to be scuttled at the 11th hour by member Clubs. First there was the high profile Diamond Valley CA Clubs' rebellion to overwhelmingly reject moves for a merger with Northern Metropolitan and Heidelberg & District CAs back in July, effectively ending the move all together. Then, while the dust was still settling from that surprise and less than a month later, North-West and Mooreland-Moonee Valley CAs successfully joined to form the "North-West Metropolitan CA".
Mergers have been a contentious issue at all levels for longer than anyone can remember and as recent developments have shown, opinion still varies widely on the subject.

The CMCA is a strong, vibrant comp and IMHO I cannot see it being merged, taken over or forced into some other hybrid arrangement any time soon. The SDCCL has been on the wane for years. A reasonable junior section however many of the stronger junior clubs have their seniors affiliated with the VSDCA, VTCA or other comps.

If this planned merger fell just short of the 75% required then clearly a good number of people wanted it to happen. Maybe just a matter of time before it does. If so I wonder is some of those club geographically close to our patch might consider joining the CMCA?

Jimmy, I hope the podcasts of your award winning radio show have not halted? I havent seen a post here detailing one for a while.

Have been doing them Army (I think we did not do the week that was washed out), seek and ye shall find on the www.southernfm.com.au website and become a Facebook fan of the station so you will be notified as the new podcasts become available. This weeks show will be loaded on either today or tomorrow so I do not have a link to post yet.

Re.competition mergers, nice tin of worms Clock, I think it is inevitable that we will ultimately see only 4 major metro cricket competitions outside of the various turf comps. It might take 50 years but it will happen in time because the major governing bodies of cricket in Victoria will want it to, football will go down the same path but to a lesser degree. For all the criticism the CMCA exec cops here it is in a good position to be the major "South" competition presently and one hopes that it still is when big brother gets his way.

Chooka, seems to me the SDCCL is held together by a piece of string and a couple of hard working individuals, geographically it would make sense for at least 4 or 5 of the clubs to head South rather than East when the inevitable happens.

They certainly have a number of clubs that could quite easily slot in to the CMCA. Toorak-Prahran, Chadstone, Oakleigh District Footballers, St John’s Elsternwick, Salesian Old Boys. It would certainly add some much needed new blood into the CMCA. I am not sure the Southern Churches would be excited about losing five clubs, but as you pointed out there must be some high degree of dissatisfaction if the merger nearly got over the line.

Can anyone explain the necessity for a Sub District competition? It is an anachronism left over from the 50’s,60’s & 70’s.They should overhaul it and incorporate it into the VTCA and create a definitive second tier of cricket below Premier cricket. They should also drop four teams from the District ranks and put them into the revitalized competition and consider a promotion relegation system. I can hear Southern Sledge coming in off the long run….

Totally agree with your sentiments on the subbies Clock. Back in ‘the day’ it was a semi elite comp but that ended long ago. Like any comp it has some standout clubs and players but for the most part it seems to has fallen away significantly. The standard of the 3s and 4s is absolutely horrible and the travel must be killer. It is very well run and I’m sure the subby clubs still promote it as being elite but I would back our Longy side to comformably beat most of our neighbouring subby clubs. Reckon our Woolly side would give Ormond and Moorabbin a run for their money as well. Senior VTCA is very strong and that comp as a whole continues to grow and prosper. Seems logical to merge the subbies into the VTCA I reckon.

Interesting tid bid from our brethren at the VTCA.
Heard last that the president of the VTCA has resigned? Apparently after an altercation during the CY's and Sth Caulfield game a couple of weeks ago, it went to the tribunal and 1 Sth C player got off with a warning? Pres not too happy with the outcome of the tribunal result???? Anyone care to elaborate? Too Old Body Broke from VTCA site.

Thankfully we are a more reserved and sophisticated in our humble Association. Rumors of Merlot being sighted on the grassy Knolls at various grounds are totally unsubstantiated. Anyway we know Chooka would take the bullet for the Prez if required. They look after their own at Uniting. Hey c’mon Chooka before you fly off the handle you know I am kidding…….

This will be interesting. I can see one or two games possibly finishing at 7.30-8.00pm. There will be some very unhappy WAGS out there.

Can somebody explain the logic behind the 2pm start ?

80 overs to be bowled could see some late finishes especially if it is a hot day.

It may suit the clubs that are playing at home to get players back to the ground to watch their 1s play, but what happens if your team is playing away, players won't bother even going back to their own club by the time the game finishes.

How about the Carnegie South v Hampton Central game? Who'll be going 'back' to watch this?? It's played at neither of the two clubs home ground.....interesting logic in fixturing there!

It goes totally against what CV want with the Big Bash. All Premier games started an hour earlier last Saturday so games would finish earler so people could go to the MCG to watch the game. It will be the same on the 7th Jan. There will probably be a few unhappy kids who's dads plays in the seniors and won't be able to take them to the Big Bash.

I don't understand why Carnegie South were not allocated Bailey Park for the season. They are a Longmuir team and deserve to have a ground which has a canteen. Surely all the other grades could play at Caulfield Park.

I believe that Bailey Park was a preferred option for Carnegie South, but the pitch was deemed to bouncy for Longmuir cricket. All a bit confusing really, as compared to Caulfied Park, it's more central and has better facilities. On top of that, I think batsmen could have coped with the pitch without too many problems. Just one of those strange decisions.

By some recent reports, the Lord Reserve upgrade is nearing completion so home games may be played there before the season ends.

It wasn't deemed too bouncy for Longmuir 2 seasons ago when Bentleigh Uniting and West Bentleigh's grounds was being done up and both teams played home games there.

A bit bouncy? What is going on with the world in this day and age. It is carpet, batsmen have helmets, thigh pads, batting gloves that could be used in outer space, elbow guards and batting pads that could absorb a bullet quite comfortably, not to mention the new fangled bats that look tree trunks. Added to that bowlers have been given a four piece ball to bowl with which usually loses all its hardness after 15-20 overs. Many many years ago just after color televison came to Australia the CMCA actually played on Mats where vertical bounce meant playing off your throat, with two piece balls that moved around; gloves that were wafer thin, pads that barely protected the leg and what the hell was a helmet? Added to that there were a couple of quick bowlers playing the competition who had serious personality disorders when they were given the red cherry and were frighteningly quick and did not hesitate to tell you about your deficiencies as a batsman or anything else they could crossed their maniacal mind.In fact, in my humble opinion they would make the current lot look like gentle medium pacers, a bit what Jimmy used to bowl when he got his 10fa.Watching sport nowadays is like watching a soap opera.Everyone is vowing to do something or promising this and that and in the end it is all a big yawn symptomatic of this generation.

Off the long run.
Overall i believe the standard of cricket in all comps has dropped, which is not helped by kids dropping off in the middle teens.
The VTCA top divisions are very strong, but it falls away at an alarming rate in lower X1's.
On the the Subbies, well it could be a dying comp, which their own fault due to a lack of promotion and relegation. There clubs all get a dividend of about 14 grand for doing nothing and clubs like Ormond can just sit back take the money and do nothing.
That money that the Subbies get should be taken off them and the money given to the other comps to pay for an administrater to run their individual comps. That would make alot of them work harder to perform. Their Hatch Comp, has run its race these days and is used by most clubs to prop up their 3rds and 4ths.

Clock, It's a little bit sanitised now. As you said mats and two peice balls. How would these boys go facing Goro & Blair (Union), Nash & Morecroft (H'ton Utd), Hughes & Hitchcock (Elwood), Bell & Cafferalla (ESBC), Holland & Rainey (Mackie), Aldred (Omega), Latham (Cluden), Lilley (Bailey Park), Stonehouse (West Bent) just to name few. I think a lot would struggle big time.

can add a few others to the list as well Clock (vorbs?) & BTK towards the end of the matting years (my 1st few years were on the stuff, short & round teenager facing a few of them was tough.. trust me!! hence why i started batting on the 1st peg, still do it today)
Blicky, Cammy Dwyer was tough work at training CD hit more people in the head than anyone else i have ever seen..
Chubba 15 years ago, was a guy from Brighton Central that was quick as well (cant remeber his name)..

always makes for a good chat talking bout quickies...

Merry Xmas to all, been a big year on B.C.F!!

i am handing out the un-official CMCA BCF awards..

MVP- Uncle MICK - consistent performer who has commented on nearlly every sub topic covered, & has handed out a few needels along the way... put his name (& maybe a few others??) to his thoughts, which as we all know rates highly in my book.

Runner Up - Clocker- was only a part timer previuosly, but has hit hit top form this season, promoted to opener after some solid form. A little less 'cricket politics' chat & is a real dnager for the top award next season.. also taken over the stats & tipping from old mate merl.. top work!

International Award- Pup after he has been un gagged (by Shags, OOhh some poetry) has come back to his beloved home with some worthwhile contributions from the other side of the globe...

Mike Sheehan Award- Homer J - keeps us up to date with memories from past years, & the occasional (also happens after about 6 bourbons usually) reminder of the double Michelle..haha! always good value to add another view of current topics

NABCFA (Eg NAGA) Award- to all the keyboard warriors who still wont put their name to their dribble.. HTFU!!

Burger - a tad conceited of you to assume that every CMCA BC reader knows who "Burger" is!

Thanks Burger, much appreciated.
Uncle is the Mike Sheahan of the BCF whereas I am more the Caroline Wilson. Interpret that as you will.
Have a good one everyone.

Clocker my friend, yes Bailey is bouncy I agree, does that mean it has to be expectable if it can be changed??? The fact is the cmca had it tested n the wicket showed ab normal bounce compared to the standard wicket which is 96% of synthetic wickets. Basically means that batsman who are used to your standard wicket are caught dangerously unaware of the extra bounce on the bouncier synthetic wicket. Sounds stupid I agree, but having played Elwood in the T20 final last year at Bailey I had forward defense rattle my gloves. It ain't safe n it ain't right.
Re: two piece ball, what good level of cricket use 2 piece over a 4 piece??? None so why a two piece has ever been used is beyond me??? Maybe cost the only reason. So let's get with the times. Because times change everything evolves, tax, T20 cricket, afl 3 on the bench we can draw comparisons across everything. But I can tell you a cricket ball back then compared to now still bloody hurts. Cricket is a great game we all love it but let's except things evolve.
I propose a stronger longmuir grade, 8 sides. 7 opponents you play twice a year, one home n one away. One been a one day game the other been a two day game. Current season is 2o Saturday's my suggested format is 21 we need to find a extra week which aint easy but aunt impossible. What we think?
