Senior Division 2012-13

i just saw on the permits and clearances that steven Cheetham a pom who played for chelt is playing for beaumauris... Bowls serious HEAT will be interesting to see how he goes in senior will make a good combination with hewett

Very good player, interesting hes not back at Chelt. I suppose Beauy just outbid them. Lets hope for Beauys sake he doesnt get a County Contract offer and have to head home before finals, like Cockbain and Riazadun before him.

That question has been asked in a couple of the forums, but no one is answering, would love to know if there will actually be cricket this week. Surely with this weather the groundsman could get a wicket prepared for the weekend....

Is that official SS? Agree with bigmerv. Weather has been good enough for long enough to get one up. Fair enough if it throws it down Friday and Saturday, but we should at least give ourselves every chance
Councils are the main problem, we give grounds to footy in good nick, but when we get them back we have to wait 4 to 5 weeks

It would appear that councils that use outside contractors to prepare wickets and top dress grounds have been slow to get it done and ready to hand over to the clubs in sufficient time prior to the first saturday in October. It appears their co-ordination methods are pretty poor. Obviously the window from Sept 1st to 30th is the best time to prepare grounds for both codes. Council officers are pretty well versed in spin when it comes to explaining why grounds that finished their football at the end of august still haven't been top dressed or wickets prepared. Seems to be a perannual problem. Missing the first Sat in october is happening far too often. Never used to be the case in the seventies and eighties.

No we didn't. Saturday, October 1st, was the AFL Grand final & there was no cricket.
The last time there was play on the first Saturday in October was in 2006-07, the only time this century.

Well I just looked on the vtca website first round 1 dayer sat October 8th all games in the south completed... So last year we did play the first round... This sat is the 6th so only 2 days difference

My question was "when did VTCA last play on the first Saturday in October". It wasn't last year because there was no play on !st October & round 1 commenced on 8th October.

Problem is that if we give up that week and concede we wont play, Footy will just take an extra week and we'll never get it back...
Tend to agree with this. We have had 1mm of rain and plenty of sunshine in the last two weeks. If we can't get a deck ready to go with those conditions then we may as well concede defeat and admit that we will never play this weekend again

Dead right. All victorian cricket associations should demand the CUOV make representations to the state government and demand they instruct local councils adopt better governance of their sports grounds. Especially those sports ovals where it is the council that is responsible for preparing turf wickets.

There is alot of blarney out there. Council officers are really good at spin, when they start quoting rules and regulations that most of us have never heard of. Especially the one where there is no money allocated to do your ground. Such as top dressing at the end of the footy season.

I'd be interested to know how much some councils are charging clubs each season for the privilege of having their turf tables prepared by sub contractors. Some years back I heard it was around $5000 per turf table.

Reports on the CMCA forum that McKinnon have lost Stacy Brown to one of the synthetic mob. Apparently he did entire pre season with McKinnon then has decided to leave on the eve of the 1st match. If true, must rank as one of the more ordinary efforts to be seen in this comp.
