So with the season now over for a month, the silly season now begins and there's already been a few movements since the season ended with the states keen to get their contracting done and dusted.

- Marcus North has retired from Australian first-class cricket and will base himself in England where he will play for Derbyshire and pursue his own personal business interests. It is believed he will see out his BBL contract with Sydney Sixers but that has yet to be confirmed. This is the second successive season that the Sheffield Shield's leading run scorer has retired with Ricky Ponting retiring after the 2012/13 season after topping the run scorer's list.
- North was also crowned Western Australia's player of the season, winning the Laurie Sawle medal. Mitchell Johnson won the Gold Cup as WA's most outstanding cricketer with Craig Simmons being named Perth Scorchers' best player and Nicole Bolton winning WA's best female cricketer.
- Tom Cooper was named South Australia's best player of the season with Callum Ferguson winning the Lord Hampton Trophy for SA's best player in the Sheffield Shield.
- Sean Abbott won the Steve Waugh medal for New South Wales' best cricketer. Ryan Carters' move from Victoria to NSW was justified after being named NSW's best player in the Sheffield Shield. Leah Poulton took home the Belinda Clark medal for being NSW's best female cricketer.
- Evan Gulbis won named the Ricky Pointing medallist for Tasmania's best cricketer. His 228 not out (the highest score by a number eight in Australian domestic cricket history) and 4/7 in the final game of the season helped tip the award in his favour.
- James Hopes was also named Queenaland's best player, winning the Ian Healy medal after a season which saw him capture 38 wickets in the Sheffield Shield competition.

Some player movements,

- Michael Klinger has left South Australia and has signed a two-year contract with WA. The move surprised many but Klinger said a few days later that SA had made it known to him that he would be a fringe player in 2014/15 with the Redbacks to focus youth.
- Mark Cosgrove has turned down a two-year contract with Tasmania and will return to South Australia after deciding the return home for personal reasons.

When is your domestic season starting..?

Fixtures haven't been released yet. Last season started in late September due to CA's desire to have the Ryobi Cup finished by late October in order for the international players to play some Shield cricket before the 2013/14 Ashes series.

With the World Cup starting in early February I imagine the season will begin even earlier, perhaps early September as the Ryobi Cup, Sheffield Shield and Big Bash league all have to be finished by early February.

South Australia have also released their contract list, Michael Klinger is of course gone after signing with Western Australia while Jake Lehmann (son of Australian head coach Darren Lehmann) receives a rookie contract after a solid Futures League campaign for SA. Peter George, who played one test for Australia in 2010 finds himself delisted.

Busy day for domestic cricket with Western Australia finalising its contract list for 2014/15. Tom Beaton gets a second chance on the back of two solid seasons of domestic form at WACA first grade level. Andrew Tye also receives a full contract after impressing in the Ryobi Cup last season. David Moody (nephew of Tom Moody) gets a rookie contract along with a guy I've played some cricket with in Jaron Morgan. Well done to Jazz.

WA also upgraded several rookies from last season while Hilton Cartwright has lost his full contract but gets a rookie contract for 14/15. Liam Davis was surprisingly delisted but coach Justin Langer has said the door isn't closed on Davis as he recovers from a career threatening finger injury.

Also take note that the availability of Michael Hogan as an overseas player is subject to agreement between CA, WACA and also Hogan's county club Glamorgan and hence isn't included on the contract list at this time. Hopefully as per last season all three parties reach an agreement so that Hogan can play for the Warriors once again.

Victoria has finalised their squad for the coming season. Not too many surprises really, former South Australian Jake Haberfield gets a second chance with Chris Tremain switching from New South Wales. Several players have signed long-term deals including Aaron Finch and Cameron White while Jayde Herrick is among the delistings along with William Sheridan.

David Hussey has been retained and will become a part-time batting coach along with captaining the second XI and Futures League teams when required.

Seems the Vics finally saw the light with Sheridan and got rid of him, he's probably one of the worst all-rounders in domestic cricket at the moment. Not sure why they brought in Tremain who is a massive pie-chucker. Good to see Haberfield getting a second crack, very handy one-day bowler.

New South Wales have announced their line-up for 2014/15 with few changes. 17 year old young gun Jake Doran gets a rookie contract along with Patrick Pisel while Chris Tremain is one of three departures after deciding to take up a contract with Victoria.

Doran broke numerous records this season, becoming the youngest ever player to play for the NSW 2nd XI, aged just 16. He also played for the Chairman's XI against England during the most recent summer, secured a rookie contract with Sydney Thunder and was Australia's leading run-scorer at the Under 19 World Cup earlier this year. All this and he isn't even 18 yet.

Luke Pomersbach has stood down from domestic cricket duties at Queensland as he battles depression. He has also stepped aside from commitments at Brisbane Heat as he focuses on beating the illness.

Pomersbach is known as much for his off-season antics as much as his powerful on-field hitting. He was suspended four times by the WACA at his time in Western Australia, including once for trying to evade police by hiding in sand dunes at a Perth beach after being caught for drink driving. Pomersbach was eventually delisted by the Warriors before being picked up by Queensland where he turned his fortunes around and was named Brisbane Heat's player of the year in 2012/13. He also played one T20 game for Australia and was a very late replacement for Brad Hodge who hurt his back trying to put on his trousers in the dressing room shortly before the commencement of the game.
