Player Movements & Rumours 2016/17

Basically, from the DVCA's point of view, in the absence of any turf cricket in our area, the proposed structure amounts to no more than the same amalgamation with the NMCA which the clubs rejected a while back, with the advantages that
- CV pays the administrator, and
- the Executive structure is theoretically more efficient and independent,
but
- with all the disadvantages of the previous proposed amalgamation, eg increased travelling time and distances, relegation of 50% of the DVCA clubs all the way down the grades, loss or diminution of traditional friendly (or other) rivalries, etc, etc, and
- if it follows the Southern Bayside template, there will be significantly reduced control and/or input into the running of the comp by clubs, since (a) the administrator is appointed by and answerable to and must obey any directions of CV, (b) the Executive is 2/3rds elected by the [DVCA & NMCA] clubs, but no member can hold any official position whatever in any club, (c) the other 1/3rd of Executive members are appointed by the elected Executive members to provide specialist skills, eg legal, accounting, governance, etc and don't need to have any cricket or local background whatever, (d) rules and fixturing arrangements will be the same in all Melbourne comps, regardless of local club or player preferences, and (e) the Executive is also bound to follow CV directives.

Sounds like someone in Cricket Victoria has been reading Mein Kampf. You'd need your head red to sign up to this "deal".

Any club worth it's salt should have this stuff sorted out prior to an AGM without the need for coup. By all means have a vote if more than 1 person wants to run for a position but trying to organise a coup suggests a poor culture.

Nothing to do with that. The school had backed OPSFCC into a corner and the only way the club could survive was to remove the wolf as their emblem & adopt the college's crest, while taking 'St. Francis' out of the name. The motion was passed at the AGM which caused quite a stir with most of the life members. An entirely new executive committee was formed with Matt Del Mastro running as the new President.

FYI - There was no coup. The previous executive committee members all resigned of their own accord.

Not sure why they'd want the St Francis taken out of the name, Francis of Assisi was a Catholic Friar and Parade is Catholic school. I don't quite understand the resignation of the executive nor the stir with the life members, I mean considering their ground and facilities are very nice, sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.

Spewing,I was hoping it was the end for this irrelevant club. In other news Motchall may be on the move just down the road.

Are you serious? Cricket clubs are built with tireless hours from so many people across many years. The club name StFrancis would mean so much to so many people that put so much time and effort to build it up from nothing. To some people a cricket club is a place to hang out a couple of times a week, but to others, it's generations of families sporting history.

It would've no doubt been a sad day for many when they merged, for them to no longer exist would be tough for many.

That's exactly the attitude that saw our club walk away from Anthony Beale Reserve when it was brand new. I don't mind some sentimentality but not when it detrimental to the club. I presume the school wanted the change of name for continued use of the grounds and facilities. If so and the executive all resigned because of that, that's nothing short of childish. You're so worried about the direction the club goes, yet you bail out because of a name and logo change, give me a break. The club still has the history and is still together and the place where you hang out with your mates, nothing of serious consequence changes.

Well put, I would hazard a guess that Research, if they had their time ago, would not merge with Eltham College. Research Eltham Collegians is horrid name point one, and they've been a dismal failure.

And that club has been driven into the ground by their President and committee ever since.

You surely can't blame people at St.Francis for fighting for the name of the club. I think its a fairly noble thing to do.
