Subbies Thread

That's the most brutal definition of a promotion/relegation system imaginable. But, it may be the way the subbies intend to travel-who knows! You have touched on the the 4 teams benchmark. I take Nancy's comments on the 4ths seriously. Two turf grounds must be fully utilised meaning all clubs should be giving attention to ensuring their 4ths are competitive. If they can't field a 4ths team do you think they would be required to leave the comp?

I also take Nancy's comments regarding the 4ths seriously. I don't like byes, it penalises 11 players from another club who were entitled to a game of cricket. I think if a club is at the point where it can't field 4 teams then they need to really consider where their affiliation should sit. I guess the executive could consider a one-off waiver but for me I don't like it.

Each club has it's own decision to make, and it's own responsibility to ensure long term survival.

Kingston chose to move to Premier, not surprising, will work long term as Frankston and the city clubs are far enough away. Sunshine chose to go the VTCA, again not surprising, and seem to have made a fist of rebuilding. RPB chose to go to VTCA, a bit surprising, and has been a disaster. No club is in exactly the same box. No club should be denied changing affiliation if it's members believe it is in their best interests. Both Endeavour and Moorabbin have strongly indicated their aim is to stay in Subbies and hopefully that's what happens. But if they can't or chose not to it is pleasing to know that there are other clubs keen to come on board.

This whole topic is generally very repetitive and the CV/CSB trolls harp on about promotion/relegation. To me, it is there already. RPB and Sunshine relegated themselves, Kingston, St Bernards, and Hoppers promoted themselves. Having a performance benchmark of not less than 4 teams and the ability to go through list/performance cycles are valuable attributes of the Subbies model. Other lesser comps cater for mediocrity, it's OK if you can't field four sides or if any of your teams are rubbish, just drop a team or lower yourself down a grade, here is your participation ribbon, and away you go.

Subbies will continue to evolve and has a responsibility to move with trends like T20 (Dougie - Premier have had three goes at it and still can't settle on how it should work). Sunshine were slammed when their performance became so bad that missing out on the 10 points against them was shaping the final 6. No one thought it was doom and gloom for the comp when Sunshine dropped themselves to the VTCA and so nor will it be if the same fate befalls other clubs. Don't get me wrong, I hope Endeavour and Moorabbin come good but it's up to them and I am sure the VSDCA will offer them any support they can.
Your pathetic troll comments are tiresome. The truth obviously hurts.
So sunshine dropped themselves to the VTCA did they. In the last year of the true VTCA , clubs like Greenvale, Yarraville, South Caulfield and Bentleigh would've beaten most Subbies sides. Clubs need promotion and relegation to find they're level.

Like I said, it's all very repetitive. I look forward to those clubs testing themselves in Subbies, it's the only way we will ever know if they are good enough. As to finding their level, a Subbies club can have a down year, or a couple of down years, and then be back in contention very quickly. Ivanhoe were whipping boys last year and this year went very close to playing finals. It's how Subbies clubs like it. You don't need promotion and relegation to find your level, you just need to remain focused on improvement. Get over it.

Typical 20th century attitude , everything has changed , population, travel times etc.

I plead guilty for not having adequately expressed what was in the back of my mind in regard to the full utilization of the number two oval. What happened to Sunshine on leaving the subbies, (only then being able to field 3 teams), was that Council, in order Lloyd Reserve continue to be fully utilized insisted another VTCA club share the Reserve. This would not be practical in the event a subbies club could no longer field a 4thXI. As I see it , subbies clubs must make serious efforts to keep their 4ths going in order to ensure sole occupancy of their no2 oval.

Very interesting, not sure where they'll come from, South or West?. If Moorabbin exit the league who do we think will replace them?

I have no idea from where the clubs will come , but am aware senior division VTCA clubs would probably meet the basic benchmark of being able to provide two turf grounds and field four teams.

Massive last round in SE. 2nd v 3rd. 4th v 5th. 6rh playing last years premier and 7th v 8th. Only Caulfield safe and assured of home final. Great comp this year in SE apart from Moorabbin and Endeavour Hills who have really struggled.

Impossible to predict what the final 6 will be. Agree a great comp this year with so much unpredictability. The washouts/no results have made it so tight.

Will be interesting to see how Subbies deliberate on Monday night to determine Caulfield's opponent. Would be surprised if results are changed and feel Box Hill probably best equipped to test Caulfield'

What happened? The results in the matches involving both Brighton and Box Hill are marked as "officlal". Is there a dispute?

Balwyn protesting round 12 result against Box Hill. Apparent wicket problem week 2 and rolled cheaply.
If Balwyn win their appeal they will get 6 points, taking them 45 and equal to Brighton, but Brighton's percentage is higher. What happens to the percentage if a game is overturned on appeal? (Or in other words, how will Balwyn get to 6th if they win the appeal?)

Have I missed something here? The Ladder shows Malvern finished 7th in the 4ths. What happened to Croydon?

from all reports, covers laid down Thursday afternoon and then taken off for a bit on Friday morning.
No rain within the area and covers were not removed until 12pm on Saturday.

Dougie you seem to know more about the Balwyn protest than most. Do you happen to know if Balwyn took to the ground willingly or played under protest before play resumed. The protest looks like a longshot to me given umpires deemed the deck fit for play.

Agree with this. Would be a huge call to change the makeup of the top six as a result of this decision. Top six to stay as is for me
