Shield Thread.

CA has changed the schedule again because Victoria's can't prepare because of CoVid 19. What a lot of garbage, they've had over 4 weeks from the initial announcement to get their act in order, that's plenty of time. Now Qld have to fly home for 2 weeks, I hope there is no outbreak in Qld in the next 2 weeks, that would severely damage the season being played out. Or is this some BS from SA government, the players have been tested and are clear.

there is going to be a meeting in Dubai with the top officials of the board to discuss and decide on India’s tour of Australia later this year. UAE as a back up option for tour but the final call will be with the hosts, in this case, Cricket Australia.

India is keen on a reduced quarantine and wants the players to be allowed to train in a bio-secure bubble instead of being restricted to a hotel room, which, the BCCI fears, can take a toll on the fitness of its players. Fair call by India it is 14 days of sitting around in a hotel room

India believe that they may not be able to prepare properly because of the mandated quarantine period and interstate travel quarantine rules. They're probably right so it is going to be a nothing test series, their training will be severely hampered. As if CA will agree to UAE, our bowlers can't bowl there.

Round 2 matches start today. All a bit confusing without the Vics playing. Looking at the schedule for the remaining two matches there was ample time to play one further game before the annoying BBL break. Why was it not played CA.

WACameron Bancroft, Sam Whiteman, Shaun Marsh (c), Cameron Green, Ashton Turner, Ashton Agar, Josh Inglis (wk), Aaron Hardie, Matthew Kelly, Cameron Gannon, Liam Guthrie
NSWDaniel Hughes, Nick Larkin, Kurtis Patterson, Moises Henriques, Daniel Solway, Jason Sangha, Peter Nevill (c) (wk), Sean Abbott, Trent Copeland, Nathan Lyon, Harry Conway

WArriors win toss and bowling against the Blues on what looks a well grassed deck.

SAJake Weatherald, Henry Hunt, Brad Davis, Travis Head (c), Callum Ferguson, Harry Nielsen (wk), Liam Scott, Chadd Sayers, Kane Richardson, Wes Agar, Lloyd Pope
TASJordan Silk, Alex Doolan, Charlie Wakim, Ben McDermott, Jake Doran, Tim Paine (c) (wk), Beau Webster, Tom Andrews, Nathan Ellis, Peter Siddle, Jackson Bird

In the other match the Tigers have lost the toss against the Redbacks and are also bowling . Two changes to the Redbacks.. Callum Ferguson and Kane Richardson in. For the Tigers specialist tweaker Tom Andrews comes into the attack. Karen Rolton Oval pitch looks a touch green. Good bowling conditions.

If Weatherald wants to continue to make a claim for a Test opening spot this summer he does not need to be dismissed after only facing 14 balls.

Ellis strikes in his first over.

Patterson hooks down fine legs throat. Poor execution to a poor ball.

Ball dominating bat in the first session of both games.

Both decks are settling down now with batting becoming easier as we approach tea.

Boy what an enigma Moises Henriques is. He was an outstanding underage cricketer, but has never came to grips with state level red ball cricket..For a large portion of his career he made mediocrity a by word yet the past two years has been a complete contrast. At a time when he has reached retirement age the man called Moie is in the best form of his career. Go credit it.
He just posted his century to get the Blues out of a hole and into a fairly solid position at stumps.

Beau Webster is a handy cricketer.. fair to say he is a multi tasker for the Tigers. He is a top order batsman who has run into some good form the past two seasons. He is also a not too shabby off spinner and now he is showing us that he bowls perfectly acceptable medium pace. So much so that he has three of the last four Redback wickets to help roll the SAussies for a piddling 185. Redback attack has struck back twice before stumps.

Karen Rolton deck looks like it will crumble and assist the tweakers come the last two days.

Agar breaks the Henriques/Solway partnership. Then he induces a lofted drive from Sangha that just fails to clear long off. Rather reckless play so early in his innings.

Ben Mac was unlucky not to get a ton. He has started the season in fine touch.
Tassie looking like posting a big first innings.

Cameron Green follows Sam Whiteman in the ton stakes for the WArriors. Specially pleased for Whiteman as he lost a lot of cricket and eventually the gloves to Inglis due to a terrible finger injury. Is he a smokie for a Test opening spot. 53, 110, 51, 18, 65, 114 are his past 6 FC scores.

Centuries galore with our national skipper Tim Paine now bringing up triple figures for the Tigers on top of a rare one from Doran.

Green showed selectors what Australian cricket has been screaming out for. Someone that can bat all day.. a herculean task in concentration. It is his second big hundred in last four FC matches.

Anytime Travis Head gets a century there is a sigh of relief from selectors. MOM

WA/NSW ends in a predictable draw. MOM Cameron Green. special mention Abbott, Whiteman, Henriques.

ROUND 3:

WA/TAS: WArriors batting on a raging greentop. Bird with 3 back in sheds after less that 30mins play.

QLD/NSW: Blues win toss at Karen Rolton Oval and bowl.

The Vics , wow wee
Now you have posted something here I will continue to.

Has Pucovski batted himself into a Baggy Green or do we wait and see him play a full Shield season first.

The Blues in a nail biter against those Bananabenders..wow wee.

Travis Head has come of age and batted his Redbacks to a draw. Vics declared coupla hours too late..

Tassie v WA was also a close one.

I think young pucovski is an absolute star , I think there still question marks about the short ball against the genuine sharp stuff. I wouldn't be rushing him

To be brutally honest Puck needs to dump the hook shot. Anything around the noggin has been his achilles heel in the past. Steve Waugh did and see what a batsman he turned out to be.

SA is the first state to name its Season '22/23 contracts.
Wes Agar, Jordan Buckingham, Alex Carey*, Jake Carder, Harry Conway, Brendan Doggett, Daniel Drew, David Grant, Travis Head*, Henry Hunt, Spencer Johnson, Thomas Kelly, Jake Lehmann, Nathan McAndrew, Nathan McSweeney, Ben Manenti, Harry Nielsen, Lloyd Pope, Liam Scott, Henry Thornton, Jake Weatherald, Nick Winter. Rookies: Kyle Brazell, Aiden Cahill, Bailey Capel, Isaac Higgins, Ryan King, Harry Mathias.

Selectors seem to have made the bowling a bit top heavy. Where are the batsmen? Yet they keep the hopelessly inconsistent Jake Lehmann.
Good rebuilding of the Redbacks pace attack after losing veterans Mennie, Worrall, Sayers and Richardson. I really rate newbies Henry Thornton and Spencer Johnson.

Possible Shield X1. Hunt, Weatherald, Carder, Drew, Lehmann/McSweeney, Scott/Kelly, Neilsen, Grant, Doggett, McAndrew/Thornton/Conway/Johnson/Winter, Manenti/Pope.
Too hard to pick the third quick. Thornton has my vote tho having a lefty in Winter or Johnson may be good for balance.

Rookies: Liam Doddrell, Blake Nikitaras, Jack Nisbet, Lachlan Shaw, Will Salzmann, Hunar Verma.

Dont we produce r/h batsmen anymore. How do the Edwards brothers continue to be picked. Oldies Copeland and Henriques going around again. Some good young talent in rookies, Shaw (bat), Salzmann and Verma (ball).

Hughes, Hackney, Jason Sangha, Patterson, Henriques/Kerr, Hearne, Holt, Tremain, Hadley, Copeland, Tanveer Sangha.
ODD X1:

Western Australia 2022-23 contract list: Ashton Agar*, Cameron Bancroft, Jason Behrendorff, Hilton Cartwright, Sam Fanning, Cameron Gannon, Cameron Green*, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis*, Bryce Jackson, Matthew Kelly, Mitch Marsh*, Shaun Marsh, David Moody, Lance Morris, Joel Paris, Josh Philippe, Jhye Richardson, Corey Rocchiccioli, D’Arcy Short, Charlie Stobo, Marcus Stoinis*, Ashton Turner, Sam Whiteman, Teague Wyllie. Rookies: Cooper Connolly, Jayden Goodwin, Sam Greer, Hamish Mckenzie.

Old man SOS strapping in for his 22nd FC season for the Premiers. WOW.

Victoria men's 2022-23 contract list: Scott Boland*, Travis Dean, Zak Evans, Aaron Finch*, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Peter Handscomb, Sam Harper, Marcus Harris, Mackenzie Harvey, Jon Holland, Nic Maddinson, Cameron McClure, Glenn Maxwell*, Jono Merlo, Todd Murphy, Tom O'Connell, Wil Parker, James Pattinson, Mitchell Perry, Will Pucovski, Matt Short, Will Sutherland. Rookies: Ashley Chandrasinghe, Brody Couch, Sam Elliott, Campbell Kellaway, Fergus O'Neill

Let us hope Puck can play a season without injury.

TAS TIGERS '22/23 Squad: Tom Andrews, Gabe Bell, Jackson Bird, Iain Carlisle, Nick Davis (r), Jake Doran, Nathan Ellis, Jarrod Freeman (r), Brad Hope, Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Lawrence Neil-Smith, Mitch Owen (r), Nivethan Radhakrishnan (r), Sam Rainbird, Peter Siddle, Jordan Silk, Billy Stanlake, Matthew Wade, Charlie Wakim, Tim Ward, Beau Webster, Mac Wright.

Veteran of Aussie cricket Peter Siddle will play a final year with the Tigers, while young-gun, Tim Ward, has committed to the state long-term, inking a three-year deal. I hope our Blues selectors are feeling sick for allowing the talented top order bat to fly the nest. Jake Doran and Charlie Wakim must be among the luckiest cricketers in the country. I guess Doran can be thankful that Tim Paine was not selected as surely his state career would be done and dusted. How long does Jarrod Freeman have to wait for an upgrade.

Likely Shield X1: Ward, Jewell, Silk, McDermott, Wakim, Webster, Doran, Bird, Neil-Smith, Siddle, Rainbird/Andrews.

Queensland Bulls 2022-23 contract list: Xavier Bartlett, James Bazley, Max Bryant, Joe Burns, Jack Clayton, Blake Edwards, Liam Guthrie, Sam Heazlett, Usman Khawaja*, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne*, Michael Neser, Jimmy Peirson, Matthew Renshaw, Kane Richardson, Gurinder Sandhu, Mark Steketee, Bryce Street, Connor Sully, Mitchell Swepson*, Sam Trulof, Jack Wildermuth. Rookies: William Prestwidge, Jackson Sinfield, Hugo Burdon, Matthew Willans

Other than a couple of imports in Kane Richardson and Liam Guthrie this squad is much the same as last season. Glad to see the impressive Jack Clayton upgraded as the Bulls look short of willow wielders to me. More so with Ussie and Marnus away on national duty and possibly Renshaw too.

Possible Shield X1:
Burns, Street, Clayton, Heazlett, Renshaw, Peirson, Wildermuth, Neser, Bartlett, Steketee, Kuhnemann.

Western Australia 2022-23 contract list: Ashton Agar*, Cameron Bancroft, Jason Behrendorff, Hilton Cartwright, Sam Fanning, Cameron Gannon, Cameron Green*, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis*, Bryce Jackson, Matthew Kelly, Mitch Marsh*, Shaun Marsh, David Moody, Lance Morris, Joel Paris, Josh Philippe, Jhye Richardson, Corey Rocchiccioli, D’Arcy Short, Charlie Stobo, Marcus Stoinis*, Ashton Turner, Sam Whiteman, Teague Wyllie. Rookies: Cooper Connolly, Jayden Goodwin, Sam Greer, Hamish Mckenzie.

Old man SOS strapping in for his 22nd FC season for the Premiers. WOW.

Not much change aside from Guthrie going to Queensland. Fanning earns a full contract after a very good premier cricket season while Wyllie also has a full contract after dominating the Second XI in the two games he played. Bryce Jackson has been upgraded and Charlie Stobo has a full contract too while Sam Greer has earnt a rookie deal as has Jayden Goodwin and Cooper Connolly.

Marsh was always going around again as he was contracted for another season, this will help him as he has another two seasons left on his BBL deal with the Renegades so he'll need to keep playing domestic cricket to keep his touch. It has been touted he might play more red ball cricket than white ball cricket next season but we'll see what happens on that front.

Josh Philippe signed for another two seasons, Aaron Hardie has penned a three season deal while Hilton Cartwright, Corey Rocchiccioli and Lance Morris all signed new two season deals.
