Not sure how I missed this Mal. Has the Black Cap squads been chosen yet. Be interested to see what it is and who you think will have a good series.

No worries Richie :thumbsu:
Have had a good look mate, but not able to finds the squads yet, will keep looking.

Exactly mate, it's not really a proper series unless you play at least 3 tests.

We've only got 4 tests this year... 2 against West Indies, 2 against Pakistan.

Not close to sufficient. I'd be happy for us to host your blokes again sometime this year. After all it is only a short dash across the ditch. We are playing several white ballers with the BCs in Feb I think.. surely there is a window to tag at least a Test on top of that. But no as the ICC insists on these bloody one day only tours these days. Again, reason being white ball is the game's cash cow. Mal do you recall cricket ever having one day only international tours before the past few years? I dont.

Black Caps Test opener Tom Blundell has become the first man in first-class cricket to be dismissed obstructing the field since the handled the ball rule was removed as a mode of dismissal three years ago.
In a Plunket Shield match between Blundell's Wellington side and Otago at the Basin Reserve, Blundell defended a delivery down at his feet, with the ball then bouncing up to head height and threatening to fall back onto the stumps.
Sensing the danger, Blundell quickly turned and kicked at the ball with his right foot, which is permitted under the Laws of Cricket. But having not made enough contact and with the ball still heading down towards the stumps, Blundell then stuck out his right hand and deflected the ball away. The Otago fielders appealed, and the square-leg umpire rightly gave Blundell out, dismissed for 101.

My question Mal is if a hand ball was removed as mode of dismissal why then did the umpire give the raised digit to Blundell
Scroll down mate.

NZ has never played enough tests throughout the years Richie, that has always peeved me off... yeah, we're only over the ditch, would be great to play more tests against your blokes.
In NZ we play 5 smash/bash 20/20s against Aussie from 22nd Feb - 3rd March... mate, we've played a few one-day series only over the years, which again annoys me as I certainly prefer test matches.

Saw that piece the other day Richie - that's just crazy mate, the umpire must have been smoking weed & forgotten that law was removed... Wgtn should complain to NZC so that sort of rubbish doesn't happen again.
There might be a silly law that if the fielders appeal against a batman stopping the ball with his hand from hitting the wickets the umpire then has to give him out ?

Terrific Mal. BlackCaps Test squad same as played us.. excepting Will Young? Figured Ross Taylor may be nearing retirement.

Will young is 27 Richie - a right-handed batsman that bowls a bit of right-arm spin... he's good off the front & back foot so can strike the ball all around the wicket.
Yeah Taylor's 36, will probably only play for another year or two.

Mal will see if I can find some footage of Young and the Saffer Conway. Mate I continue to be baffled as to why Santner keeps being selected for your blokes.

Yeah, it's amazing how some coaches keep favouring certain players Richie - glad they didn't select him in the test squad.
Mate, couple of video clips of Conway & Young...

:thumbsu: Mal. Impressive hitting from Young. More interested in his red ball play to be honest. I rate a batsman on his pure cricket exploits. Conway looks the goods too. I say the BCs have two fine recruits to bolster their batting stocks.

True Richie, it's more difficult to judge how good a batsman is by just looking at them playing white ball cricket, can see though from some of their drives both are very good players... unfortunately it's hard to find them playing red ball cricket as we don't get live domestic red ball coverage in NZ.
Yeah mate, those two definitely give us more batting depth.
