Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

I find most of the logic that is supposed to apply on turf wickets doesn't actually play out as you'd expect. It only turns like Shane Warne when the pitch is a council pitch that replicates a day 3,4 or 5 wicket with dirty great holes all over it. Other than that it's anyone's guess as to what happens. I'm more interested when a wicket gives you variable bounce and those that actually give you loads of bounce.

Anyone in Perth that want to train together. I think synthetic turf has turned me into a fast spinner. I bowled 26 overs for 47 last week and got only 1 wicket off a full toss. Feeling very demoralised, need to go back to giving it air. If anyone wants to assist and help each other in perth let me know.

For sure.

I’m pretty busy atm but I should be free in the new year.

I’m in Melville so fairly central.

I’ve had similar issues (although I’m an off spinner) and I have a very good “drill” for working on flight. I’d probably call myself quite a slow spinner so it’d be great to talk to someone who’s the opposite.

I also like to think I’m not a terrible leg spinner either so I can think that way too. Although judging by your username being an offspinner might help haha.

South ay, I have a few friends that play for Murdoch.
whenever you are free let me know. Im gona training with the club today, focus on my action.
When landing your foot parallel to the crease, do you guys allow the heel to touch the ground?(Im not referring to the front foot)

I play for secret harbour still and work in Pinjarra so that’s not problem for me haha.

What league do you play for? I might be playing for Hilton-Bicton cc next year so I could potentially play against you lol.

As far as I’m aware with back foot contact it’s more of a comfort thing, although your weight should be on the front of your foot, so a lot of people heels don’t touch the ground.

IE, you should be striking the ground with the ball of your foot first.

The most important thing with your back leg is making sure it doesn’t collapse.

I’m actually playing in a premier T20 competition from 6:30pm tonight, white ball and coloured kit.

Should be really cool, there’s some first grade and state 2nd XI players in the match so I’m also kind of terrified.

wow, that dedication to the game.
I play for the Nscaa, not a great league. Regret leaving turf. Next season I might go back to one of the turf clubs, Im in the north btw.
Yeah I see so many people push off the balls of their back foot without the heel touching the ground, always figured that was the correct way to do it, I find it a bit awkward but when I do manage to do it feel there is more energy in the action. Thanks for the help, appreciate it.

Yeah I tried joining a turf club but Melville had too many numbers, Fremantle isn’t replying lol and everywhere else is a bit further than I’d like.

Just go to one of the trainings for freo. I plan on doing that for midland Guildford next season.

Congrats on the win, watched the last couple of overs, Howd you go with your bowling?

Yeah really nice, it was a hard, flattish wicket. I didn’t get much turn but I just bowled with some good top spin, dip and bounce.

Bowled a good speed too. 0-11 (2) and bowled some relatively late overs.

Overall very happy.

Nice work, you bowled well, they brought you on pretty late thought that was a bit risky but it paid off tho.

My bowling starts 3:35:49, not the best camera angle but it'll do. I end up bowling 10 overs, 1/51, and a runout caused by a decent stop when the batsmen crunched it back to me. Figures kinda blew out in the last over unfortunately, where before after 9 overs I was 1/39.

Regarding the skip, I eradicated it in training but it just made my accuracy go all over the place, so obviously I had to revert back to the old style in order to bowl alright in a game. However I found the front foot to fine leg thing an easy fix that didn't mess up my accuracy so I've got that going in this game. Will see if my accuracy improves without the skip during the lengthy christmas break, should have enough time to get it right.

Could you record yourself bowling without the skip in the nets? Make sure you aren’t doing something else wrong while trying to avoid the skip.
