Syria’s armed opposition says its fighters have captured the capital, Damascus, and that President Bashar al-Assad has fled possibly to Russia.
The commander of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, Abu Mohammed al-Julani, says all state institutions will remain under the supervision of al-Assad’s prime minister until they are handed over officially.
Russia and Iran, friends of Bashar are unfortunately tied up with their our wars. The timing was perfect with no bloodshed I heard of. 2000 of Basher's soldiers fled to Iraq and the rest threw away their uniforms. It's been a peaceful transition with the Rebel leader not allowing looting nor destruction of government buildings. Even the PM kept his job to facilitate the smooth transition of power.
What a coup. I wish the long besieged Syrian people a lovely and merry Christmas.

I heard Basher had imprisoned 100,000 Syrian citizens in the last five years who subsequently disappeared.

I was reminded today Assad dropped barrel bombs onto his own people. They were usually 44 gallon drums filled with oil, explosives and shrapnel, and were dropped from helicopters with deadly and mass effect.
I just heard Israel is targeting Syrian Air Force bases.
There still is an active ISIS in Syria and beyond. That's a real worry, especially if they vie for power. Biden told all to watch out for ISIS and stop them in their tracks. Good.

Not what I watched. The Assad regime evidently left behind certain weapons that the Jews were worried may fall into their enemies hands and they have so many including this new one. That was why they bombed former Assad regime military bases.
This insidious outfit still have a small presence in north central Syria, or maybe that is now had as a day ago the Yanks bombed the crap out of them. Apparently the majority of ISIS activity is in Africa these days.

He's said to have boarded a cargo plane at the airport and flew to the air base Al Quseyr near Homs from where a private jet sent from Abu Dhabi picked him up and flew him to Moscow.

I assume they want to be on the safe side, should the IS or other Islamist group take advantage of the political vacuum. Assad had respected the status of the Golan Heights, a new government may not.

Israel is seeking to castrate Syria militarily which seems fair given the treats of Isis etc...
However it's illegal under international rules of law. You cannot attack another state thinking they may be a future threat.

On top of the illegal air bombing the IDF has taken a strategic mountain location inside the demilitarized buffer zone. That is basicly declaring war on Syria. Turkeys Erdogan has condemned this and may take steps against Israel. I hope he does as in my view Turkey wont be rolled over like Lebanon or Syria as they have a powerful modern military and wont take any crap from the Jews. Notice, tho, Iran is staying silent over this incursion into Syria.

Add traitor to Trump's list of character flaws. This is by far the worst as he has condemned Ukraine firing US long range missiles into Russian territory and condoned Putins retaliation. All I can say is the Free World is in trouble with this bloke leading it.
