There's a pay wall for me but I found it elsewhere.

Is that the blame game in the sense of You can't have your cake and eat it too? Fiscal rectitude sounds good in the abstract, but is a much harder sell in the specific. Don't Australians expect more and better public services, from health, to education, to aged care and child care. If so, it’s a choice they have collectively made but haven’t yet collectively decided how to pay for it. Would people feel better off if government spending was cut leading to lower demand?

I am criticizing this govts over spending like I expect many hundred of thousands of other Aussies families have in silence, those like us suffocating under the increasing cost of living because of rising gvt caused inflation. Everytime we do our f two weekly major shop wife complains that prices have risen again.

Those making the criticism in that article are respected economists who, unlike this govt, would know the sensible way to manage an economy. We collectively are speaking about wasteful govt fiscal spending that we hear about repeatedly on our news platforms, such as the many unnecessary lerks and perks fat cat bureaucrats and politicians are given. One that riles me no end is their taxpayer funded luxury chauffeur driven cars they have at their disposal. Bloody well drive your own luxury cars.

These public servants are also massively over paid so firstly take a substantial pay cut and grant yourselves a pay rise only if in line with all other Australian workers. Hi cost of living effects the middle and lower class most so is hurting everyday Aussie families to the extent that many, mostly the elderly, have to choose between freezing in winter or feeding themselves. While medium and small businesses, the life blood of the economy, have no choice but to dismiss hard working men and women because they cant afford to pay them over the repeated rise in energy costs this govt promised to reduce...

No I can't see it Thomas, That's just me.
What did it say?
Is still says "The Hidden Tiger". Have a look at the picture turned upside down.
Thinking outside the box, as Craig demanded, means not to expect a second tiger but just those three words hidden somewhere.
Waiting for Richie Richie to confirm that. Correct?

Not sure Craig.
Labor has certainly got rose coloured glasses when it
comes to funding worthy altruistic goals. So many tho
.
Pity we have over reached financially with NDIS and are now struggling to fund it. Good that the Scammers are getting busted at least. Sloppy regs and checks.
You may have heard the tragic case of a family murder suicide, husband, wife, 2 seriously autistic teenage boys and 3 pets, ... They needed more support from the NDIS and I guess they were at their wits end. A sad tragedy.
So many people need a social safety net, a long and growing list that gets triaging no doubt.

Aged Care; that's a big one for us many baby boomers.
Despite the current hue and cry about immigration we do need a "Youth top up" for our ageing population.

I think some northern European countries have excellent support for their citizens but are taxed more to pay for it.
A collective choice reflecting a cultural mindset?

Well done Thomas. It was a good teaser Craig.

I watched a doco the other night about endangered Siberian Tigers. Huge creatures well protected from Artic weather with size, fat, and two layers of hair. They hunt, kill and eat bears who scamper away to tight tunnelled lairs!! Amazing.

On the subject of Bears, it was lovely to see Polar bears starting to adapt to the melting of the North Pole ice cap and sea ice. Those smarter than average bears are starting to adapt to hunting more and more on land.

A Bear walks 10km south, then 10km east followed by 10km north thereby returning to its starting point.
What colour is the Bear?

I see what you mean mate. My wife also keeps complaining about rising prices for almost anything people need for a living: food, petrol, gas, but also car insurance, services, etc. In order to make it less obvious it's each week a different group of goods for which prices have gone up.

My point was that if you're not precise on government spending, it just sounds like bashing politicians is a pet peeve. Indications of that are if a sweeping criticism is not put into perspective by acknowledging that government spending is a positive necessity rather than a nuisance and that we all benefit from it . What are examples of excessive expenditure in AUS?

We know that too much government spending leads to inflation, on the one hand, but why do people usually forget to mention that their return on investment in bonds has increased due to the government borrowing money, on the other hand? Why not admit that a rise in spending and inflation is partly caused by mandatory spending, a big part of it being social welfare? Why not point out that discretionary spending is often influenced by developments that are partly beyond the control of the government like the covid pandemic, defence, military aid to Ukraine, immigration, etc.? And also the growing interest on debt is to a considerable extent a result of entitlements which our and the previous generations allowed themselves to have.

The thinking that politicians are overpaid is a popular complaint without anyone offering an alternative. Our members of parliament get roundabout 11k Euros (AUD 18,600) a month in order to make them immune to bribery and to make the job reasonably attractive. Compared to other income brackets that is not overpaying them.

Immune to bribery, thats a good one.

It would sure do that. What any easy way for a pollie newbie to earn big bucks without any formal tuition. Just has to put his name up for election then suck up to his constituents to buy their vote. If that sounds cynical then so be it. And by the way I have never voted for the socialist left.
