I've caught up on this thread over a beer and enjoyed seeing Doc and Leggy get some wickets.
I have had a total break from cricket since the season ended. Just to recap, I left my club at the end of last season for reasons explained earlier in the thread.
Well today I got a text from them...
Thanks mate. My typical strike rate is usually higher than that. My figures for all seasons in all formats (some T20s but mainly 35/40 overs games) are:-
Overs 166.3
Maidens 4
Runs 1035
Wickets 48
Strike Rate 20.81
Average 21.6
Economy 6.22
Thanks mate. I've had a lot to take in the last few days. Looking back and having had a few nights sleep I am happy with my decision to quit the club and feel liberated.
I learned from conversations with the first team captain that he wanted me in the first team, but other players had talked...
I play for the Sunday friendly as well, today just happened to be a league game that needed to be played because of a missed fixture earlier in the season.
There are loads of clubs in the area so I'll look for another.
I've been given four overs in the last four matches combined. Today was the final straw when they were bring people back for second spells ahead of me. I texted the first team captain after the game and told him I'd find a new club.
No, the cup was earlier in the season and we were knocked out. I didn't play in it.
I don't think the first team will finish high enough to get promoted from their league. Second team definitely not, they're second bottom of their league.
Regarding the flipper, I do think it's possible to get it to stay low on astro. I can get them to hit half way up the stumps regularly on the net I bowl in which has good bounce. It adds to the challenge and you know you're getting good revs on it and the correct line/length if you can hit the...
No league match yesterday, cancelled due to lack of numbers (our team).
Another 35 over friendly today. 0 and out with the bat first ball. Moving swiftly on, our team made a decent 140 for them to chase.
Wickets fell rapidly when we were bowling. Three in the first two overs, then a steady...
Funny things, nets. There are spinners at my club who get a lot of wickets and they barely use them. Me, I feel I have to put many hours in just to get to the standard I'm at.
And yeah you always want to leave the nets bowling well and on a high. I've been there too, staying to fix something...
For sure, as my form and stats this season will attest. It's a difficult thing to do well consistently.
At the start of the season I was flying and felt in complete control of my rhythm.
Lately I've had more trouble getting my leg break to turn consistently, with spells in the nets where too...
Had a league game yesterday, 40 overs. 1 not out with the bat, did not bowl. Comfortably beaten.
A more enjoyable friendly today. We bowled them out for 124. My figures were 4 overs 0 maidens 28 runs 1 wicket. Wicket was another bowled, this time a left hander. We narrowly lost chasing them...
Due to weather and other cancellations I had my first game in a few weeks today. Only bowled 3 overs, came away with 1 wicket for 15 runs. The medium pacer at the other end completed a 5 wicket haul during my spell and we won the game by bowling them out for around 85 (with them chasing 128...
Not to be, eh.
England messed up in the first two tests and left themselves too much to do.
The decisions to declare under 400, with no threat of rain, and then bat on to nearly 600 knowing there was two days of rain coming are inexplicable. Not that I think it would have made any difference...
It was absolutely brutal last week. The ground is in a unique location, at the foot of a valley surrounded by hills a couple of miles off the coast. The wind was coming in from the sea and picking up pace as it rolled down the valley and was directly head on as I was bowling. It was...
Ashes has been scintillating. Would be great if it was 2-2 heading to the Oval, that's what the fans and the series deserve.
Both my matches cancelled this weekend. I'm grateful for a week off.
It was definitely right to take me off.
It's not the first time he's been involved in something like that, though. Earlier in the season, he was captain and put me onto bowl. The first over i took a wicket, the second over went for a couple of fours and he took me off.
I just don't think...
Thanks for your reply mate.
I don't know if I've done the right thing and am being too precious. I guess he was honest, at least, but I felt like shit after that and didn't want to be there.
