Re: Can the Lions win the 2010 AFL flag?

I know why they play so many games in Melbourne, but it's a bit rich for a support of Collingwood (or indeed any victorian team) to complain about an interstate side playing at home too often.

There's no excuse for you to not finish top two this year, with your favourable draw and the Saints, Bulldogs and Lions all playing like rubbish.

Re: Can the Lions win the 2010 AFL flag?

Favourable draw? I dont get this rubbish about favourable draws because so many games in Melbourne, whats the advantage? Interstate sides play 10-11 home games a year, a Victorian side gets a maximum of 6, but that would never happen

Whats favourable about playing all of last years top 4 twice? Whats favourable about playing one of last years top 4 twice at their home ground? Collingwood would be better off with 8 interstate trips than ever playing at Etihad

Interstate sides have a far greater home advantage than Victorian sides who play alot of neutral matches, really with their superb draws there is no excuse for an Interstate side to fail to make finals

Re: Can the Lions win the 2010 AFL flag?

The greater advantage an interstate side has at home as nullified by the disadvantage they have away from home. Collingwood still has an advantage at home against other Victorian sides because of their huge supporter base.

The most favourable part of the draw for Collingwood is not having to travel at all from early July onwards. 7 matches in a row at the MCG is far better preparation for finals than travelling to Subiaco in round 22 (As St. Kilda do), or playing almost no games at the MCG all season, as St.Kilda(2), Footscray(3), Sydney(3), Port(1), Fremantle(0) and Brisbane(1) all do. You cannot argue that any interstate side (or Victorian side, for that matter) get's a bigger advantage from the draw than Collingwood.

Was a bit wary of Voss' trading pre-season, but it's looking pretty good so far.

Probably set to make the top 4 which always means you are a good chance, especially if they can get a home final or 2.

That worked out well lolz. Fevola lolz.

Re: Can the Lions win the 2010 AFL flag?

Interesting season so far. Four teams left, Collingwood, Geelong, St. Kilda and the Western Bulldogs. Collingwood would be favourite but St. Kilda are right there also. Geelong are still a chance and the Bulldogs aren't really in it.

Brisbane would be favourites to win the spoon next year. Looking really awful at the moment.

Not sure that the lions will be wooden spooners next year. Got a feeling the Gold coast suns will take that title I feel.

Come on the Saints! It's about time...

Their best player in Michael Rischitelli has left and they have a number of recycled players who have proven to have little effect this season signed on three year contracts. Add to that there is the possibility of Luke Power retiring and Simon Black is going to take a big pay cut to stay inside the salray cap. There's also the problems with Brendan Fevola and also Jonathan Brown who seems to less games each year due to injury and Daniel Rich was nowhere near the player he was in his first season.

That to me looks like they might struggle in 2011 and they will probably be in the bottom four next year if not challenging for the spoon.

Re: 2010 AFL Premiership Season Thread

The Grand Final was a draw, only the third drawn Grand Final in VFL/AFL history and the first for 33 years. Collingwood 9.14 (68) drew St. Kilda 10.8 (68). AFL rules state that a Grand Final that ends in a draw must be replayed the following week so once again Collingwood will play St. Kilda this Saturday at the MCG.

Collingwood were in the last drawn Grand Final, when they drew North Melbourne in 1977 despite leading by 27 points at three quarter time. North Melbourne went on to win the replay the following week.

Re: 2010 AFL Premiership Season Thread

Collingwood won the Grand Final Replay, 16.12 (108) to St. Kilda's 7.10 (52).

Scott Pendlebury won the Norm Smith Medal for Best Player on Ground.
