So the DVCA are supplying a free bus to and from the GF, departing from Greensborough station.

Do they think people aren't going to go because they're trying to save petrol money? Or the drinking aspect. Or are they just trying to not make the day look terrible with next to no one attending.

Either way, Maybe they should understand that outside of the DVCA Exec and Mernda (no disrespect to them, good luck to them), most think that playing the game there is ridiculous. It may have a good surface, but just about every other facet of it will actually make what is normally a good day, rubbish.

I hope Lower Eltham have stocked their fridges (no doubt) they're in for a big crowd.
 
Sorry Serg, but Diamond Creek for me. They know what it takes to win it, they've got the class and a very even list. Diamond Creek just, in a low scoring game attended by even less people.

Wow, bitter much that your mob hasn't been given their usual money maker this season? The grounds and clubrooms look great and if they wanted the MS game there I think it'd have been great and it's not that bloody far away.
 
I'm not bitter at all, I've not once said that it should be at Eltham - other (non ECC people) have said that it should be played there.

You giving the ground your tick of approval should be more than enough evidence we need to never play there again.

Oh yeh, not bitter at all as you say the day will be 'rubbish' before even a single ball is bowled and insult people with a differing opinion. You realise that your complaints are just coming across as sour grapes as they are being made without substance.

Are there any genuine concerns about the day or could Mernda improve upon something? I'd be interested in hearing from someone who was there.

Credit where credits due, the set up looks sensational. The ground surface immaculate and pretty good viewing if your on the Club room terrace. Probably the only thing to whinge about is value for shots I suppose. It's a big ground and could count boundaries on one hand, but then again batting probably didn't help. All in all a good set up, but I'd still prefer the game at Eltham. It's a more central local for Barclay clubs and supporters and ticks most if not all the boxes. As for the cricket.......well the way it's played these days, it's become a very mundane affair. I still think Diamo will win but geez it's hard to watch sides grind out runs, then grind opposition with the ball. I know it's a successful formula and full credit for doing it week in and week out but its bloody hard to watch and enjoy, let alone try and commentate.
 
How is it a successful formula when majority of teams in the comp play with a defensive mindset and score around 100 each week.
 
Ok so it sounds like things went pretty well.

Yeh, batting is a matter of survival these days, someone who can actually make a few runs is worth their weight in gold.

It's successful for Diamond Creek because they set a target of batting overs as opposed to batting to a score. Their philosophy is bat 80 overs and the score will look after itself. Whether that score is 120 or 250 their bowling attack is prepared to defend whatever is put in front of them and 9 times out of 10 succeed. I would call that a successful formula for them. From a spectators point of view it can become rather testing, because so far opposition teams haven't or aren't willing to implement a strategy to counter on a consistent basis. We'll see if Macleod can do it next Saturday. Let's hope they take a positive approach and don't go the Riverside one.

The most a side has made against Diamond Creek this season is 6/150(cc) in a one day game, made by Riverside.

In two day cricket, no side has batted the day and the top score is 148 by Rosanna.

On a big ground, defending 180 in a grand final, they'd have to be paying $1.10 to win.

They've got 4 front line bowlers who average between 7 and 11 with the ball. Its the best bowling attack in the comp and no side has worked out how to make runs against it yet. And that's after losing Rogneda to Premier cricket.

Clubs are going to have to work out how to make runs against them, otherwise they're going to keep winning flags, particularly if they win the toss and bat first!
 
Well im going to stay positive despite what the stats say.
Their bowlers might average between 7 and 11 with the ball , but if our bats stick to their seasons average , we get the runs .
 
Fair effort from Ramsey again. That's 2 GF's in a row where he's stood up on the big occasion. When you got blokes like Harley Smith (last years MVP of the GF) not even getting a game you know you're a strong club.
DC for mine. Macleod all out for less than 120
 
Yep, I'm still with Diamo on this. They've simply got way too many runs on that ground, let alone with the attack that Diamo have. I have them winning this comfortably, but will be good to watch the bowling strength of Diamo v the batting strength of Macleod. Would love to see it go most of the day at least!

My two cents:
To shock them to get them off their game, a side needs to have some balls and really attack Diamo. They thrive and feed off you showing respect and waiting for the bad ball that we're taught from an early age. They just don't give it to you. Walk across and hit to the leg side, walk at them, move around the crease. Anything!! But you can't dig yourself into a hole then play a stupid shot. It needs to be a calculated, planned attack. Sides just let Diamo dictate from ball one and look where it gets them.

I agree there Tongs. I know it's completely different but we made 200 against them in the 20/20. All be it the ground was roped off but we really attacked them and it paid off.

In reality the Comp has become too defensive with the bat and it's all mindset
 
For all our differences, I have to say our last coach was good in the way he would never discourage a player from playing their shots and he actively said that to the group. We also ran several training sessions on unconventional shots, because sometimes you might need to play a bit of a dirty slog or step across one to break the shackles if a bowler is dictating terms.

PA is right, the defensive mindset is drilled into players, I see it with my own eyes. Ironically, I also note the more aggressive batsman put more runs on the board in a season than others.
 
Im a long time retired but I used to bat a metre out of the crease just to make the bowler change his length and it seemed to work at times.
Yep , breaking their bowling rhythm is a start.
