Aus A Squads For Zim & Sa

Very interesting squads. Seems to be a lot of guys going who aren't on the radar for spots all that much, I guess they are using this tour as development for some up and coming guys rather than those on the fringes on the side although there are some guys who are close to being in the team or are in the side intermittently.

I'd say Shaun is either in the ODI squad based on that line-up or he is nowhere near a recall which would be hard to comprehend to be honest.

I suspect he's got about as much chance of playing test cricket for Australia as I have, but then I would have said that about Warner, however Chappell is praising him to the press, so what do I know?

It will be an interesting series, as Paine is skipper. I wish I could watch it somehow. I'm very curious about how this mismash of Chappell's potentials goes.

If Shaun continues working on his Sheffield Shield game and keeps improving then there's no reason why he wouldn't be in the mix to be picked. I do think he still needs more time at domestic level before playing test cricket but he should be in both the ODI and T20 side, it's a joke that he isn't to be honest.

He is never able to really press for contention as he gets injured so much.

Chris Lynn (hasn't recovered from his injury_ has been replaced by Matthew Wade and Hilfy is only going to play the 4 dayers. Thank goodness for that, he's not really a one day bowler.

Very true, which is part of Shaun's problem. The guy never has a sustained period of time where he is fit and seems to do a different injury each time he does get injured. The amount of times he gets injured after just getting back into the side or being in good form is Watson-esque.

If only it was a different injury each time. His left hamstring has gone about three times now. He's like Michael Owen and has a genuine weakness there. I feel sorry for him as he's pretty much been in form at state/domestic level for two years when he actually gets to play, but he's not a great pick if you want someone to consolidate his place in the team.

He's also had back trouble I believe as well as hamstring problems so I guess it's a mix of things.

Is it just me or have the selectors just picked opening batsmen for the four dayers? Warner, Maddison, Khawaja and Hughes are all opening bats, I know Khawaja will probably bat 3 but I believe he is an opening bat. Ferguson is the only specialist middle order batsman.

In theory, Mitchell Marsh is a middle-order batsman. The Warriors have thrown him around from 5-8, but he's had his best scores as part of the batting line-up proper.

I'll be very surprised if he is used in the four-day eleven. He really hasn't done anything to warrant it. Maybe Paine will bat at 6?

Tim Paine is giving it with the PR for the A tour. He sounds like a very smooth operator with the media and far more assured and bright than Clarke. I doubt somehow if he got to be skipper of the Big Boys team, we'd have him bleating on about wanting people's respect or letting his private life hang out to dry.

Siddle and Hilfy will probably be playing both four day matches for the A squad if the point is to give them match practise. I have this horrible feeling that Copeland will only play the one dayers, which is NOT a format he is suited to.

Yes, it seems that way, I like him, but he is going to cop it from the fans if he doesn't pick up his first class average and get a few more tons.

3/133 in the 29th over v Zimbabwe. Maddinson just got out but it was a good partnership between him and Ferguson. Sounds like they were both going well against the spin bowlers.

Australia A got 8/232, both Maddinson and Ferguson got 50's and Chris Mpofu took three wickets. Zimbabwe started well in reply but when Vusi Sibanda was dismissed the Zimbabweans fell in a heap and lost 8/48. Masakadza played a lone hand with 57 and was running out of partners when he was the ninth man to fall. Zimbabwe eventually finished on 142. Nathan Lyon picked up four scalps and was Man of the Match.

In the second game against South Africa A, Australia batted first and scored 9/214. Aaron Finch top scored with 59, Mitch Marsh made 41 and John Hastings had a late cameo making 28. A range of South African bowlers picked up two wickets. South Africa A struggled from the outset in reply and ended up on 154 all out which made the score look partly respectable in the end thanks to some late slogging from Rory Kleinveldt who smashed 39 off 25 balls. Hastings got four wickets for Australia but it was Finch who was MOTM.

Zimbabwe take on South Africa A tomorrow.

Ugh, South Africa took Copeland to the cleaners at the end there. His runs per over went up from just over 4 to nearly 8 in about three overs. At least Paine knows now NOT to bowl him at the death in the final.

This has been a very good series. So many close matches.

Great that Aus A brought it home in the final. What a last over. Had everything.

First day of the first fourday match and Hilfy and Siddle have been noticeably unsuccessful with the ball in terms of wickets. Krayfish has three, not sure how I feel about that as I bet they were hits into the outfield.

Mitch Marsh continues his good tour with a wicket in the last session.

Ben Hilfenhaus has been noticeably unsuccessful again in the second innings. It looks very bad to be outbowled by Marsh, let alone Trent Copeland.
