Australia in India

Re: Australia in India

I can't believe people seriously want Symonds over there. Our biggest problem to me is that we don't have many specialists coming into the team (with the exception of Siddle who judging by his batting is definitely a specialist bowler), everyone seems to be what's branded these days as an "allrounder". Not "allrounder" as in Sobers, "allrounder" as in "he's mediocre at both batting and bowling but he's got a marketable head, we'll class him as an allrounder".
I used to always be a fan of trying to have an allrounder in the test team, and a couple in the ODI's. But that was back in the days of the likes of Steve Waugh and SO'D, where you'd be lucky to have one player who could part time their weaker suit, such as Border bowling his offies etc. But at the moment, we've got so many batsman who could be relied upon to fill in with a few overs (Hussey, Clarke, Katich, or even Punter back in the day) or bowlers who can bat on a bit (Lee, Johnson and Warnie when he was playing). Also, the batsman-keeper is now the norm as opposed to the keeper-batsman. How many "allrounders" do you need?
Having said that, Watson now seems to be joining the long list of cricketers who have made me eat my words with his recent form. But please, Watto at opener, it's just cruel.
On the Symo-Clarke conspiracy theory. Even if Clarke did call a compulsory snap meeting whilst Symo was out on a dinghy somewhere, I say good on him. Symo has a history of letting down the people who've stuck their neck out for him the most. I'm guessing Clarke just had a gutful of it. Although I agree "Bigman" that it seems a bit far fetched. And Bigman I guess you've been told this before, but you've got sensational breasts for a bloke.

Symo already had organised a fishing trip at the same time.
Clarke needs to get over himself.

Re: Australia in India

Phil Jaques has been ruled out of Australia's entire summer test schedule after having back surgery on a bulging disc yesterday. The recovery and subsequent recouperation period is expected to be lengthy with Jaques unable to play any part in the Australian team until the tour of South Africa beginning in February. However that appears to be unlikely and Jaques may miss that tour also as well as home tests against New Zealand, South Africa and also the Sheffield Shield.

The injury comes at a terrible time for Jaques who has played very well since replacing the retiring Justin Langer in the Australian test side. Jaques has played a total of nine game, averaging 50.37 with three centuries.

Jaques out of Australian summer

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Very bad luck for Jaques, he wouldn't have been far away from getting back into the side with Hayden and Katich failing to show any significant signs of form. However it only opens the door for Shaun Marsh who would now be the man knocking on the door for a test spot should Hayden or Katich slip up or miss a game through injury. It woiuldn't be all that surprising if Marsh makes his debut this summer.

Re: Australia in India

That is pretty nasty for Phil Jaques. Hope that he makes a speedy recovery.

The ODI's are coming up, Do you think that Shaun Tait should be picked in the team to take on India?

Australia aren't playing any ODI's against India on this tour.

Third Test - India vs Australia at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi

The series heads to the third test with India 1-0 up in the series after thrashing Australia in the second game by 320 runs. India completely outclassed the Australians who struggled with both bat and ball in the second game and ultimately lead to their defeat.

You could say this match comes at a bad time for Australia. India simply own this ground, they can do no wrong here in Delhi. India have won their last seven tests at this venue with Anil Kumble coming back into the team at his pet venue. Kumble has played six games here for a total of 55 wickets at 15.41 and combined with the in-form batters making runs and the seamers causing all sorts of problems for the Australian batting line-up, India are in a pretty good position.

Meanwhile, Australia are struggling with the lack of a specialist spinner really hurting the side. White has performed okay so far but nothing to really suggest he is causing any major problems for the Indian batters. The pace attack too suffered in the second match with the loss of Stuart Clark with an elbow injury. Peter Siddle had a serviceable debut but the attack has lacked bite with Brett Lee having a below-par tour by his standards. Australia's batters too are way out of form with Matthew Hayden is need of runs as well as Simon Katich and to a lesser extent, Ricky Ponting who had such a great start in Bangalore but has fallen away since that first game. This test is really crunch time for Australia, they need to be competitive here otherwise they risk losing the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

Kumble is certain to return for India so that means either Amit Mishra or Harbhajan Singh will have to miss out. However, Harbhajan seems to be suffering from a toe complaint and may not play in the third test but will be given right up until the last minute to prove his fitness.

For Australia, Stuart Clark has been declared fit to play and will replace Peter Siddle in the Australian line-up. There may also be a double change with speculation growing that Jason Krejza will make his test debut at the expense of Cameron White after some advice given to the Australian team at a recent training session. Whether the change occurs or not remains to be seen.

The pitch will be spin friendly again with conditions to heavily favour the slow bowlers. The weather is expected to have little influence on the game however some smog and the early sunset could reduce playing time.

India XI (probable): Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, +Mahendra Singh Dhoni, *Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh (if deemed fit), Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma.

Re: Australia in India

The pitch is a spinner's paradise and i would of liked the aussies take a gamble on Krezja just because by day 3, 4 and 5 its going to be so dusty and turning that the more spinners we have the better chance

Looking at Lee's first few overs and he is sending them down over 150kph and the ball is barely reaching Haddin's gloves

Re: Australia in India

After those 2 quick wickets, India have settled.

Tendulkar and Gambhir look very good and somw gifts outside the off stump from Lee arent helping the cause.

97/2

I think its Kumbles success that has helped save Whites spot

Got me ********ed how White is still in the side.

Krezja, surely should have been given a berth.

Yeah Krezja, the answer to the Aussies prayers

Funny how when a Victorian is in the side everyone outside it suddenly becomes a great player who should be replacing them

Had to laugh at the cricket.com.au article basically bagging Siddle even though he was the Aussies best bowler in the last test

Re: Australia in India

2/154 Tendulkar and Gambhir are still going strong.

White is not a good spinner he his technically flawed and we saw what happened last test with the Aussie batting order. I would have gambled on Krezja even if he might get hammered, the pitch is supposedly a spinners paradise and Australia don't have spinners to take advantage of the conditions.

Its not an Anti-Victorian thing, if I had my way I'd replace everyone with New South Welshman :p

Nah, all the old players need to lift to even stand a chance of winning.
