Australian Cricketers' Association XI vs Australian XI - Twenty20

Another summer, another round of one-off cash cows. Does anyone really care about this? I am pretty sure I won't even watch it. These guys are just getting way too old to keep coming out of retirement.

For those who are interested:

Australian Cricketers' Association XI Shane Warne (capt), Travis Birt, Lee Carseldine, Adam Gilchrist, Daniel Harris, Matthew Hayden, Jason Krejza, Rhett Lockyear, Graham Manou (wk), Glenn McGrath, Nathan Reardon, Nathan Rimmington.

Australian XI Michael Clarke (capt), Cameron White, George Bailey, Brad Haddin (wk), David Hussey, Andrew McDonald, Clint McKay, Peter Siddle, Steven Smith, Shaun Tait, Adam Voges, David Warner.

Telecast from the Gabba starts at 7:30pm EDST.

Nice to see a strong Australian team for a change, injuries ruined the ACA XI so should see a reversal of last years result, unless of course the Aussie captain screws it up which is very possible given he doesnt belong in T20 cricket

You would say that, five Victorians in the team. :p

Who knows how it will play out, given that it's a hit'n'giggle game that nobody is going to be taking ultra-seriously, apart from maybe a few of the younger guys looking to impress the selectors. I'm still taking the $2.30 on ACA to win.

Re: Australian Cricketers' Association XI vs Australian XI - Twenty20

Yeah well the ACA side had the most Victorians last year and won :D

Hopefully they dont bat White and Duss at 7 and 8 again this year, that was a joke of a chase

Re: Australian Cricketers' Association XI vs Australian XI - Twenty20

Should be a bit of fun this game, any cricket is better than no cricket Ceasar :)

Re: Australian Cricketers' Association XI vs Australian XI - Twenty20

How the hell is Clarke the Australian T20 captain? Surely worthy of a spot in the side would be a criteria?

I will revise my prediction to an easy win for the All Stars after Clarke wastes too much time in the middle not scoring

Re: Australian Cricketers' Association XI vs Australian XI - Twenty20

Yeah Clarke is too slow for this format.

Re: Australian Cricketers' Association XI vs Australian XI - Twenty20

Got to keep the average up ;)

Very ordinary crowd they should've played this in Perth it would have been a sell out.

Re: Australian Cricketers' Association XI vs Australian XI - Twenty20

Well unfortunately they can never play it anywhere else but the GABBA as it always gets the first test and they want this as the season opener

Re: Australian Cricketers' Association XI vs Australian XI - Twenty20

Clever batting by Bailey to push the score up to a respectable 173, should be a decent run chase.

Re: Australian Cricketers' Association XI vs Australian XI - Twenty20

Should find himself in the team for their next T20 as well

Warner, Clarke, D.Hussey, White, Bailey, Haddin, McDonald, Johnson, Hauritz, Bracken, Nannes

Strong side, last bowlers spot wide open depending on fitness but Lee wont be around this summer

Personally dont agree with either of the openers, but they will be playing

Main strength of the side is big hitting from 3 down and a good mix in the bowling attack, also have 3 part time spinners if needed

Re: Australian Cricketers' Association XI vs Australian XI - Twenty20

56 of 26 now, some big hitting required here.

Re: Australian Cricketers' Association XI vs Australian XI - Twenty20

Very ordinary crowd, CA will be disappointed I feel. Very poor scheduling too, 6:30pm local time start on a Sunday Night is not going to attract huge numbers and that's probably partly to blame for the lower than expected attendance.

Like Kram has said, the game would have been better off in Perth. The WACA seems to sell out for just about every single game Australia play in so why not play the game over here? Even make it a week earlier to add more rest time before the test series starts.

The game could even be changed altogether and make both sides full of retired Australian greats, Warnie's Legends vs Gilly's Heroes or something.

Fairly impressed with Lee Carseldine though, in pretty good Twenty20 form, continuing on from last season's Twenty20 Big Bash. Might be worth chucking him into the side in place of Clarke who struggles in the shortest form in the game.

Re: Australian Cricketers' Association XI vs Australian XI - Twenty20

Isnt that what the Lilac hill game is?

Anyway it cant really move, the whole point is to play it with the Aussie team in town for the 1st test, sure the scheduling was wrong, but after last years debacle they needed a hole in the calendar where it wouldnt affect the state cricketers

Re: Australian Cricketers' Association XI vs Australian XI - Twenty20

I love this game!

It is one of my favourite of the season, and I don't like T20s.

I just like the relaxed atmosphere, its like Australia vs Australia A, always great games. And I just love seeing those guys come out of retirement because they are still better than everyone in the Aussie side.

Plus it is to be considered the comic relief of the season. Watching the channel nine coverage creates a rolling on floor in laughter effect. Like Warnie calling McGrath Jonty Rhodes all night. Or McGrath calling his own wickets. Could it get any more fun?
