You might think it's a bit early for this thread but believe it not contracting for the 2014/15 Big Bash League begins tomorrow with several rumours already floating around some big name international players including Kevin Pietersen, Jacques Kallis, Darren Sammy and Dwayne Smith.

There's also been a few rules changes for the 2014/15 BBL as well.

- Salary cap has been increased from $1.05 million to $1.2 million (Australian dollars).
- Two trade periods to take place of one week duration, one starting tomorrow and one in November. A minimum of one player must be traded although a player does not necessarily have to be traded in return.
- Teams will be able to sign a replacement player should any player be called up to international duty during the season. This will encourage franchises to retain or sign players who are regulars on the international stage in their squads
- Signings can begin on 19 May (tomorrow) with a minimum of 10 players to be signed by 11 July. Teams must be finalised by 5 December.

Stay tuned to this thread for all the signings, news and scores for the 2014/15 Big Bash League.

Reigning premiers Perth Scorchers are the first side to announce their early signings with six players from the 2013/14 winning side contracted for the 2014/15 season including the Marsh brothers Shaun and Mitch, Sam Whiteman and Nathan Coulter-Nile. Five other players have also committed to the franchise which includes spin twins Ashton Agar and Michael Beer.

The Scorchers are expected to leave their international spots open until closer to the commencement of the season.

- Nathan Reardon has joined Brisbane Heat after spending the previous two seasons with Adelaide Strikers.
- Andrew Tye joins Perth Scorchers after playing a few games last season with Sydney Thunder.
- Callum Ferguson has been traded from Adelaide Strikers to Melbourne Renegades. Melbourne will see out the final year of Ferguson's contract and is likely to be extended by at least one season.

I heard on radio that Ferguson was going, or likely to go, to the Renegades.
Yep, officially traded today on the last day of the first trade period. Rumour had been circling for a few days and has now gone through. Ferguson obviously looking for greater opportunity.

Wonder if the Heat will try get Vettori back.. Probably not wise.

I'd love to see Nathan McCullum picked up by the Sixers again after not getting into the IPL.. He's a much improved T20 player I think.

Vettori will appear again for the Heat. He was on their initial list of 10 submitted on Monday with Nathan Reardon added yesterday.

In a bit of a shock, Craig Simmons has left Perth Scorchers and has gone to Adelaide Strikers who offered him a three year deal worth about $100K per season. Scorchers coach Justin Langer expressed "shock and disappointment" at Simmons' decision.

Simmons, an apprentice electrician in Perth, was plucked from the WACA first grade competition last season and scored two centuries, the only player to reach three figures for the tournament. It was a breakthrough season for Simmons who had spent several seasons on the fringes of the Australian domestic scene both at New South Wales and also Western Australia.

I must say as a Scorchers fan I'm disappointed that Simmons is leaving. Langer was prepared to give him a go and did only for him to depart what was really for the money. Very disappointing and I can guarantee the Perth crowd won't let him forget should the Strikers play over here in the coming season.

Gee that's a bit of a slap in the face to Langer, Simmons would be relying on climbing power poles for a living if it wasn't him.

Brisbane Heat have signed up three young guns with the club retaining Mark Steketee and Nick Buchanan whilst James Peirson has crossed to the Heat after spending last season at Adelaide Strikers without playing a game.

Skeketee played five games for the Heat last season and impressed at domestic level whilst Buchanan was unfortunately injured for the entire competition last year. Peirson didn't play for the Strikers this year and crosses to the Heat looking for increased opportunities.

Steketee was a good player for the Heat last season, looks as if he could be a very good player. The signing of Peirson suggests the Heat won't have Craig Kieswetter this season and could also suggest they might not play Chris Hartley given he isn't really suited to T20 cricket.

Adelaide Strikers have started to shore up their list retaining wicketkeeper Tim Ludeman and also big hitter Trent Lawford for the upcoming season. Lawford's most recent claim to fame is smashing 265 off just 187 balls in Victorian Grade cricket during February 2014, an innings which including a whopping 28 sixes.

The Strikers have also secured Jono Dean who stays with the club after playing four games in 2013/14.

Kane Richardson has re-signed with the Adelaide Strikers for a further three seasons. Cameron Gannon has again committed to the Brisbane Heat, Gannon was the competition's leading wicket-taker last year with 18 wickets at 11.94. Funnily enough, he was almost bitten on the golf course yesterday by a snake after almost stepping on one.
