dan cullen, daniel doran, and how is jason krejza travelling?

Krejza is going alright for Tasmania. Took a few wickets and scored a few runs in the recent four-day game. Getting a game in front of Xavier Doherty is the four dayers.

Re: Bowling attack

Let's have a look at some of the candidates and other spinners from all the states.

New South Wales

Beau Casson
Nathan Hauritz

Queensland

Ryan Broad
Daniel Doran

South Australia

Cullen Bailey
Dan Cullen

Tasmania

Xavier Doherty
Jason Krejza

Victoria

Bryce McGain

Western Australia

Aaron Heal
Brad Hogg

So, who do you guys think should be the spinner if MacGill doesn't play? And who will have the spinners role in the future?[/QUOTE]

Having had a look at the list you just provided, there really doesn't seem much past MacGill and Hogg. Obviously the first 2 that would be mentioned would be Bailey and Cullen, but they are hardly ready to become world-class spinners overnight. It's hard to rate all of them because alot of them I haven't seen yet, but here we go.

New South Wales
Beau Casson: I haven't seen him at all but left arm chinaman bowlers are a very rare breed. He seems like an exciting prospect and could very well get a chance at Test level in the next year or so, but not right now. Handy batsman too.

Nathan Hauritz: I cannot see him adding to his 1 Test cap at all, like Cullen Bailey is struggling to get a game in the Pura Cup for New South Wales, but could be handy in one-day games for Australia. Like Casson, can bat too.

Queensland
Ryan Broad/Daniel Doran: Can't rate them, only what, in their 1st or 2nd year at first class level? Won't be contenders for Australia for a while yet.

South Australia
Cullen Bailey: Needs to get back in the Redbacks team to be any chance of getting a Baggy Green cap for Australia. Probably needs to prove himself a bit and play some good cricket in the Pura Cup to get a go. Seems like a handy batsman, probably better than Cullen, Bailey bats 2-3 spots higher than Cullen.

Dan Cullen: Perhaps the 3rd spinner in line, but far from a world-class Test spinner yet. Relies alot on variation in speed, which has seen him do quite well in domestic one-day level, and a wicket taker too. Will need to perform not just to get picked for Australia, but keep Bailey out of the side for South Australia. You can't imagine that you'd have 2 spinners in a team with 4 specialist bowlers, right?

Tasmania
Xavier Doherty: Rated a prospect early in his career, but has hardly played a Pura Cup game in the last 3-4 years. Mainly because of Tassie using a 4 man pace attack, though with the emergence of all-rounder Luke Butterworth there is perhaps a role for a specialist spinner in the side. But was overlooked in the last couple of Pura Cup games for Jason Krejza, someone considered a bigger turner of the ball. Has been excellent in one-day games for the Tigers, uses flight and variations of speed more than turn, and has made some useful contributions with the bat too.

Jason Krejza: Inexperienced but has been quite handy for the Tigers almost every time he gets an opportunity. Like Doherty, can bat as well where he more often than not makes a handy contribution. These 2 haven't been playing in the same side too often, but when they do they look quite promising.

Victoria
Bryce McGain: Once again, I haven't seen any of him, but when someone wrote that Kerry O'Keeffe said he should be in the Australian side, I laughed. Too old and too inexperienced, but younger than MacGill and Hogg...just.

Western Australia
Aaron Heal: Needs to prove himself still, haven't seen alot of him, but did well on a very good spinning deck against Tasmania in a one-day game.

Brad Hogg: Last but not least. I have doubts as to whether he can make it at Test level, but if MacGill doesn't do well in fitness or form, he'll be called up. A much better batsman than MacGill, as 4 first class centuries will tell for itself, will probably bat at no.8 for Australia. Has made 2 half centuries for Australia at one-day level. An excellent one-day bowler, but does he have what it takes to be a Test match bowler?
