Just starting the banter for this years upcoming season.
Any big moves from players to dif clubs? I hear Marmo is Captaining Albury this year, any other clearences.

Who will be the teams to beat? Wodonga, North, Lavi, any others?

Who will be the teams to be relegated? Dederang, Belvoir, Albury, New City?

Will Steve Wood and Andrew Lade play on?

Well some good questions there Short and fast.Let's start the no balls rolling. North will be strong again even if JD doesn't play.They promote their juniors really well. Marmo off to Albury yet another club shirt in his wardrobe.How many whould that make? Yack will be very handy in district.Playing a level which is easier to recurit players for them. Who will be the unlucky team to win District and not go up is the big question. Mt Beauty always prove a strong side at the pointy end of the season. Raiders to go alot futher and hopefully pick up a few handy players. Baranduda to stay in B'Grade even with new rooms on the way. What's the oppinion on that? Let's remember it's still football season .

Just wondering, i have played abca/provincial all my career, and was just wondering what the thinking is like in district. do teams want to play provincial or are they happy playing district. im not being arrogant or anything, but it seems like other than new city, the teams that have come up havent really wanted to be there eg yak when they first came in. seems like there is a big incentive to not go down to district, but not a big one to come up.

I know that lavington have suffered as a club because of the relegation system due to that everyone is running scared of getting relegated, so all the focus is on first grade. Trent ball and James Tonkin-mostly to blame, have forgot and downright neglected to worry about the seconds, thirds and blooding any juniors with potential. this has even got to the point that the seniors had absolutely nothing to do with anyone else, this includes training, fielding, socialising etc. there was no coaching done by ball to anyone if they were not in seniors.

In second grade they made the semi finals (after winning it the year before) and first grade went through the season undefeated, but were defeated by North Albury in the semi final. All in all I don't see how they have suffered at all? Looks like a bloody good year for them by all accounts.

On the issue of blooding players, throughout the year in first grade they played S Hargreave, T Hargreave, D Wild, O'Connor, S Taylor and D Weeding. The oldest of those players is 22.

Out of interest, who in particular are these kids with potential who should be getting a run higher? I know Lavington have some fantastic junior players due to the professional manner they run their operations, so what names are we talking here?

In my experience in playing in cricket clubs, it's only natural that players are going to tend to socialise with other players they play in the same team. That's not to excuse first grade players who seem to have an arrogant attitude despite only playing bush cricket, however I wonder if you have made the effort to go up to these guys in a social context and have a chat? I know there are some absolute ripper blokes down there at the LPO. Damo Baker, for example, is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, always has time for a chat.

Same goes at training, I'm sure if you go up to these types of guys (Ball, Tonkin and Baker) they'll be more than happy to help you out with your game.

I suspect if you have an issue with how the club is run, you should poke your head in the AGM (as I have nothing to do with the club I have no idea when that is) and put forward some ideas, or failing that, have a word with Trent or Tonks, I bet they'll love the feedback. Bally in particular, he's only in his 2nd or so year of coaching, so there's no doubt he's still coming to terms with the role.

As a rule, you pick your best XI to play first grade every week, expecially if you're a title contender like Lavington clearly were this year. How would you feel if you were clearly in the best XI but were dropped to second grade just because they wanted to 'blood' a youngster?

The fact that these players didn't get an extended run in the first grade team is testament to the fact that the depth at Lavington is extremely strong. I have no doubt that a number of players who play second grade for Lavington would play first grade at other clubs, but that's the nature of the beast. O'Connor actually played three first grade games, and they were the final three games for the record, so I think it's fantastic that a guy like him has fought his way into the team and ended up in the best XI.

Luke Bartley, for example, was one guy who was on the fringe for a few years, then decided to leave and go to New City and won a title with them, and good on him.

I know for a fact that if you asked Trent or James about a specific cricket issue at training they would help you out, there is absolutely no doubt about that.

Short and Fast, by any chance do you play third grade? I know a few players (both former and present) at Lavington who have said that the problem with the social side of things, in particular in the past two seasons, is that there is a particular bloc of third grade players at Lavington who have isolated themselves just as much as you're accusing the first grade players of doing. Apparently they feel like they're owed something.

The best thing you can do for your club is put your head down at training and work bloody hard. That will translate to on field personal success and make it impossible for the selectors to over look you. There's no point whinging about not getting a fair go when your performances aren't worthy of selection.

Personally, as someone with an intricate knowledge of a number of CAW clubs, I'd say Lavington is in a more healthy position than most.

as for bartley, this is exactly what i am talking about, a good allround cricketer, batsman and keeper, and trent and tonkin didnt like him as a person and left him there to rot in second grade. good on him for getting out of the club and prospering in another clubs setting. it is amazing to see what people do when given opportunity.and yes oconnor did play the last 3 games however apparently the selection commitee only put him there to fill in against yak, he was lucky enough to make a score and make it impossible to be dropped, although they though hard about doing it. when slecting a side for now and the future, why would you select a 40 year old debutant over a 17-22year old player of the future, especially if they are all of around the same skill level. once again, you have to be friends with those in high positions.

i am a vivid supporter of lavi and i will always be, but im just letting everyone know that lavington isnt all roses and i think they are not genuinely a premiership chance unless they pick up some quality players. batting line up is weak, tonkin, ball and mcneil only good bats, and with baker and keene getting on, the two kb's are only two dangerous bowlers. any other ideas about lavi and other sides

You've failed to actually name names? Who are these 40 year olds who are equal skill level to these 17-22 year olds who are missing out? Cricket is all about getting a chance and taking it. O'Connor did that, and that's fantastic. Others got a chance and didn't perform. The only way to get another chance is to earn it.

well the 40 year old was chris whelan, and poor old lukey didnt bowl very much at all this year.
i never said that damo wasnt the best bowler last year, however i dont think he will be nearly as destructive this year as he gets older and struggles with his body, just like keeno.
nah not looking for a go in the rep side, or even the first grade side, just want lavi to become a better club. keep an eye on lavi morbo, there will be changes this year mate, your boyfriends trent and tonk are in the committee's line of fire. committee is very unhappy with the clearences away from the club. will not name names yet, although i will be extremely surprised if there arent more, maybe not the already selected side, but many fringe players and the second and third grade players who build the foundations of a club

Well maybe those who aren't happy at the Panther Dome should switch camps down the road to Lavington Colts....sorry New City Half of them on their committee are ex Lavi blokes, play at Urana Road oval where you blokes played half your games anyway, play in the same comp and captained by an ex-Lavi player.

This argument has just lost all its integrity.
Bartley didnt play seniors for Lavi because he wasnt good enough, and he has prospered at New City..... that is just a lie??? Harsh ? Maybe?

I have probably played between 8 and 12 games against luke and i can honestly say he is not good enough to be in Lavingtons A grade side just as I am not a good enough Bowler to be in my clubs A grade side hence why i played so many games against him?

The evidence is there for you all to see now and you can make your own judgements and I am not for a minute saying there might not be personal issues, but even if he was Trents or Tonkys or whoevers best mate I think we all know he wouldnt have been picked based on performance.

The most important thing here is that this is not a personal attack on luke he was just the unlucky example that "short and fast" chose to use and i am just highlighting that "short and fast" might want to do a bit more research befoe he goes shooting off his mouth and looking like a dill??

Is short and fast gettin hard done by or is it just sour grapes??

Little comments on the teams:

Lavi 1st grade team of the decade (batting order)
Damien Thomas (wk) - Really good player in the Albury region. Was fantastic with the gloves. Think he player high rep cricket as a junior.
Paul Mongan - Played his best cricket in Melbourne, but was obviously still a class bat.
James Tonkin - Very good batsman and could have made a fine keeper.
Steve Wright(c) - Is in the top two or three players to have played in ABCA/CAW in the last decade
Keiran Knight - Was a class above most, and a brilliant thinker of the game. Is he in some form of coaching role at the moment?
Anthony Bradley - Great fella, handy cricketer.
Trent Ball - Very hit and miss, but handy to have at number 7.
Steve Baker - Brilliant competitor, am sorry to see things have soured with his brother.
Damian Baker(vc) - Great guy and great bowler. Very level headed and a guy you want at your club.
Alistair Lee - Had a good couple of years. Is he still in England?
Steve Keene - Surprise inclusion perhaps?
Jarrod Lyons (12th) - Best guy you'll ever meet, and had a great year the year Lavington lost the grand final to North Albury.

Andrew Maggs(vc) - Is a guy who is too good for second grade but hasn't produced often enough in first grade.
Glen Vassallo - Not too familiar with him. Thoughts?
Cam Sawyer - A good second players. Was captain this year, yes?
Ken Mansell - A brilliantly skilled cricketer. Could still go around today and make a shed load of runs.
Rob Wright(c) - Suffered from Danni Minogue syndrome, but a great and a way more than handy second grade player.
Ash Lafferty - Has had mixed fortunes in first grade, but a very hard hitter.
Luke Bartley(wk) - A solid second grade player.
Matt Rhook - Played a few games of first grade didn't he? Left armer?
Tim Cartmell - Great fella. Always puts in.
Newman Holden - Interesting to find 'FJ' playing thirds. Is he just a bully down there?
Brett Sawyer - Hasn't done a hell of alot in first grade but a great second grade bowler.
Sam O'Connor(12th) - Solid young fella. Developing his batting I noticed this year.
