dave hussey for the ashes ?

yes, but in a test match he will duck them and they will sail harmlessly by:)

I don't want him in the test team as he made me just about bite my tongue off and spit it out when he was playing ODI's for Oz 2 summer ago.

Watching someone playing for their place and trying to preserve their wicket when we already have nurdlers like Clarke in the team is just too much.

bit harsh there

I recall him playing a couple of great knocks in the ODI s ,particulary in Adelaide when he won the game for us of his own bat.

Haha I was only joking.

I can't find any information that there has ever been two sets of brothers playing in the one team. You guys know of any?

It would just be a fun little trivia fact to hold, that's all :D.

Brett and Shane Lee played in ODIs with Mark and Steve Waugh

4th ODI: Australia v New Zealand at Adelaide, Feb 10, 2009 | Cricket Commentary | Cricinfo.com

This match. His brother had at least as much to do with us winning that match.

But what is interesting about that one is look at over 14-15. See what they say about Punter getting out? That was two years ago. How often has he done precisely that since.

His bad habits are set in stone now. I think Flower and the English bowlers will be setting him up with monotonous regularity come the Ashes.

Re: dave hussey for the ashes ?

Well now what have we ? No room for a born and bred Aussie in the team, we now have Pakistan born players in the side. Oh thats right, he plays for N.S.W so he is half way there.

Re: dave hussey for the ashes ?

David Hussey is nowhere near the test side for a range of reasons. Would you be still pushing this agenda if he wasn't playing for Victoria? I doubt it.

Obviously playing for Victoria I get to see him a lot more than most other cricketers.

I will ask you 1 thing, and answer honestly, if D. Hussey played in this up coming ashes series, and batted at 6, what ball park figure do you think he would average?

Re: dave hussey for the ashes ?

Are you just trying to wind-up people? He's been in Australia since he was three for heaven's sake and sounds more Aussie than Pup.

Sure he's from NSW, but he looks like a very good player so I won't hold that against him.

Australia has a very high percentage of its population born outside its borders.

And he's 23, not 33. We need young players in the squad, not continually starting players in their 30's.

Why would I want to wind people up?

I was just pointing out that being of Pakistan origin, he would have had 2 options in which to try to forge a test career. Playing for N.S.W, it certainly gives you a leg up in my opinion.

What is his average by the way?

Might nudge 40, couldn't see him averaging more than that.

What is his average by the way?

Career first-class average is 47.86 and his Sheffield Shield 2009/10 average was 63.45, only Steve Smith had a higher average.

Fair enough!!

Well if you think he is not up to the ashes squad, He is a handy bloke to have hanging around as an emergency plan B

That is my point, how many players who have averaged 60 + for 4 and 5 years not been able to break in

Perhaps although there are a few players ahead of him.

Not many have averaged 60+ in the Shield for the past four or five years. Going back three years ago, the squad was pretty much inpenetrable due to the wealth of good players in the side. It's only been in the past couple of years that spots have been up for grabs and many of the guys who have performed well when spots weren't available have performed poorly or are too old to be considered for a spot. David Hussey would fit that criteria. Hussey is 33 next month and is too old to be considered for a long-term spot which is what the Australian selectors will be thinking about. Only one player in the top six bats is below 30, that person being Michael Clarke who is indeed 30 next year. So in a couple of years there will be a few guys who will be retiring from international cricket (Ponting, M Hussey etc) and that leaves spots open. Replacing those guys with players such as D Hussey who are near their mid-30's is a backwards move and one that doesn't do the dynamics of the team any good as replacing a retiring player with a player who is also nearing retirement is entirely pointless. That is why guys like Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith have been picked for tours of late and we'll no doubt see Cameron White in the test arena as a specialist bat fairly soon.

It's a harsh reality but that's the way things go.

I understand the point of view in terms of looking for a long term player, but what is wrong with starting a player AFTER this ashes series. It makes more sense to bring a player in to the team against the weaker countries, let him gain 2 years experience before the next ashes series. The ashes is the only thing keeping test cricket even remotely interesting in this country, there for it is imperative you pick your BEST side available, no matter what age they might be.

Re: dave hussey for the ashes ?

Well now, all out for 88 against Pakistan. If you don't think David Hussey should be in the side now, you are sadly out of touch with reality! North and Smith are useless with the willow. What will England do to these 2 plodders?

North is a strange one, he never seems in enough form to stay in the team, but just when he needs to he scores a century and wins the game, only to be out of form again next Test.

Smith has had a whole of 3 innings to judge by, and he's in the side as a spinner to start with anyway. He's batting at 8, so he should hardly be analysed on his batting right now.

Unfortunately for Dussey, even if these two had to go, there is Khawaga and possibly White after that ahead of him AT LEAST.

I like him, but there is still no way to fit him in. You can hardly blame some of the best fast bowling I've seen in English swinging conditions and the sort of collapse that happens to any cricket team as a reason to put him in immediately.

Re: dave hussey for the ashes ?

Boris is on the money, at least two players ahead of him and like I have said before, David Hussey doesn't have time on his side plus he has only batted three times for Nottinghamshire during the current county season. You can't judge Smith on three knocks and he's only really there because Hauritz is unavailable through injury.

Won't be a fixture in the Australian side. If anyone gets dropped, Khawaja will play.

Re: dave hussey for the ashes ?

Now, North has just made a duck in our second innings! Bye bye for him. Do you think David Hussey might have gone just a little bit better? Don't give me this crap about youth and the future direction, plenty of time for that AFTER the ashes series. As I have posted earlier, what is wrong with building for the future after the ashes series? So don't be anti Dave Hussey because of this thread, swallow you'r pride and admit I was right!!!!
