This chap has to be the most overrated international batsman of the current era. Only Brendan McCullum of NZ would offer a serious challenge.

I am starting to tire of the nonsensical hype behind an opening batsman who undoubtedly has one of the worst techniques in world cricket and who has a failure rate in the order of about 10:1 in all forms of the international game. For every one time he manages to score he then has at least 10 failures.

Aside from a century against an average NZ team and one against an appallingly bad Indian team his record this season has been pitiful. His record overall is not impressive either.

1. Take away those two centuries and he has scored a total of 116 runs in 8 innings at test level - an average of 16 odd.

2. His ODI record is equally bad - 2 scores over 50 in 16 innings and a poor average of 20.68.

3. A slightly better 20/20 record in the earlier stage of his career but since May 2010 his 18 innings have yielded 358 runs at an average less than 20 with eights innings in single figures.

When will the Oz selectors and the Oz public finally wake up to the fact that he is a chopper and select some one with some technique and stickability.

A gunner if ever there was one.

Bit harsh dismissing the NZ century in Hobart, IIRC correctly it was a green top and barely anyone else made a decent score. He looks a bit like he's in 2 minds in the one day format, if they don't drop him perhaps they could look at maybe pushing him right down the order so he could just play aggressively.

IMO he's obviously a talent and they should stick with him, although I agree the commentator and media hype surrounding the bloke is ridiculous.

Think you may be right. He has never quite done it and looks unstable most of the time. He is probably being used in the wrong manner and poorly coached.

Watson is back so I guess they have the option of using him as an opener again.

Yes and no, Watson is no opener in fact we seem to be lacking an opener or two. Come to think of it the whole batting lineup is a mess with the experienced batsman hiding down the order and all the kids being sent to the slaughter. Maybe they need what happened to the bowling, a couple of injuries to the supposed big names with some risks needed and pow we have a bowling attack. OH and a new coach didn't hurt.

A lot better today with a decent 68, still managed to leave Michael Hussey high and dry with that run out though.

I think he should be persevered with, imo many people are a bit biased against him because he is a bit of a tool with a cavalier batting style. He averages 37 after 22 matches which isn't that bad especially with current lack of batting depth.

It surprised me when he got sent home the other day, and supposedly for "being so badly out of form"?

I hope he hasn't stuffed up again.

Warner is simply a product of the system that is failing the team at the moment. He needs some time at shield level to sort his game and then be given the time to do it at test level. he is for mine a world class No: 6 at test level and with some encouragement a useful part time spinner.

The system is far from ideal. No argument from me there. But Warner has just come off some test matches and the ODIs are really his forte. I found it rather puzzling that he was sent home, but if it means he can pick up some games here all and good.

David Warner is one of longest and cleanest hitters of a cricket ball in world cricket. So much so that from memory Australia chose him for his first 20/20 international prior to him even having played a 1st class 4 day match. Warner is s short-form cricket specialist who has surprised many by adapting his game and temperament to test cricket.

Hopefully Warner will find some form again back here after being sent home from England supposedly for that very reason.

He's always been surprisingly very ordinary in 50 overs in internationals compared to the shortest and longest forms of the game, seems to get stuck in 2 minds as whether to go all out or try and build an innings.

He has still managed two ODI 100s and six 50s, but fair call.

There are loads of long and clean hitters in the World game, it's hardly a massive plus these days.

I'm glad he's not in the ODI team, I hope they give someone else equal opportunity.

He needs to hone his test game and constantly switching between three formats is not going to help him do that.

Few players in world cricket hit the ball like an in-form David Warner does.
