a few suprises today, the game at mernda, will be an interesting result, and alot of people tipping lalor stars over research, but Mctaggart took 6 wikkets and research 0/50, big upset brewing

No not the pitch; although its does do strange things, saw a few explode off the pitch today, leap the keeper by meters and bounce virtually once for four byes.

It was Baker and Salvatore (and support). Two great bowlers who bowled very very well.

At tea Lower where 3/107 and looking good, enter Baker and a quick 5/7.

Mernda never got started with Snowy out first over, Salvatore changes ends and just rips though them to have Mernda 8/26, only a quick 20 smashed by Baker in the later overs got them to 48.

The pitch is ordinary but not the main reason.

And now Minney bowls too. How bad are Elthams bowlers seriously. How many are going to tip a Minney 300 and an Eltham loss.
Maybe this new Paki bloke should call Arnberger and ask how it is going from turf to synthetic.

If it isn't the pitch then what is it? Using the old super balls or something?:confused:

The pitch is very rank, however I don't think any player from either side (I can only really speak for Lower) would claim their wicket was pitch related. Some great bowling and rank shots. Was an entertaining days play.

Epping 0/0 v Macleod 217: 217 is a pretty good score on a big ground. Think they'll cause an upset.
Mernda 8/48 v Lower Eltham 131: Lower to clean up the tail. Could be outright?
Research 0/46 v Lalor Stars 209: Research to chase a disappointing score on the postage stamp
Lower Plenty 231 v Bundoora 1/9: Bunny's batting can be brittle, going to back lower in a tight finish.
Riverside 5/359(cc) v Eltham: Minney needs around 250. Riverside all the way.
Diamond Creek 1/25 v Plenty 202: Another toss of the coin. Going with Diamo.

Totally agree. Very good spell by Baker, and never seen the keeper and slips stand so far back for Salvatore. He was really fizzing them through. The wicket was pretty average, not great for developing young cricketers, but it was very entertaining nevertheless. My mate Burgoyne has let me down as an all rounder. At least he carried on like a batsman when he was triggered. Pity is he can't bat.

What happened down there Tongs? I popped in for 20 minutes and it looked like they would be chasing 400. Any crazy predictions this week?

Geez, Lower have started off wonderfully...the club seems to really be going places, they've got a young, talented and hungry group - and not just in the ones either..

I went to training with another club last week as I've moved away from the Valley and wanted to have a hit..but after sinking some cans down at Mernda and at the clubrooms afterwards, having everyone say g'day and "Where have you been, you fat **************?" I realised how much I loved the place, how much it felt like home, family even, and how I'd be foolish to go and play at another club - even if it is closer to home - when I've got some great mates down there and we always have a ball on and off the park.

I can't wait to get to my first Lower training session of the year, next week..I've ballooned over winter and hardly played for a year so it will be a long slow climb back to the rigours of H grade!

Firstly Big Jim, You don't win matches when you can't bowl one side of the wicket. Secondly, as the old saying goes "Catches win matches" and we simply didn't do it. Yes some were hard, or tough, but if you want to win games, you need to take the half chances. Riverside were outstanding though. Pig back in form, Smale is a gun, and they knew that their ground is rougher than a chick from broadies head! The hit the ball straight to fielder's and ran. Knowing that they will get a dodgey bounce, and with the pressure they will be home easily. so Eltham = poor effort, Riverside = Brilliant would give the result of chasing 350!

As for bold predictions, yes I picked Eltham against Lower, but they did give it a shake. I was wrong, I'm man enough to admit it!

And you have got fatter over the off-season? Is it possible? You must have 3 tits by now if that the case!

Sorry to make you cry, DQ, just goes to show your more sensitive than many give you credit for! I think I'm getting a bit sentimental in my old age!

Yes, though many thought it impossible, I am much more rotund than in days gone by...but I'm working on slimming down before that fourth tit gets any bigger!

yes, i was there.
the crowd would have been around 500 ? im not very good with that kind of estimates though.

the game was quite a dull contest until late in the match, where northcote needed 16 off 2 overs, with only 3 wickets in hand.

only 2 sixes hit across the 2 innings, so on a small ground not many if you ask me.

Pingers to bat for 75o and get up.
Lower to get 2 more wockets, send in Mernda and the game will fizzle no outright
Interesting - No GT in the field but will bat, good toss and Searchers to win
Yes Bulls batting will make this interesting....uuummm, Bundoora to hold on, 8 down.
Riverside, easy, but Eltham will show some ticker and bat for a while whilst never getting close.
Diamo, Hubber to get a bag but not enough.

Or I could look at the weather forcast and realise that its a good time to ensure the cards are there....heres hoping its clear.

Don't think the 20/20 format suits the up & coming district lads, not enough shots played and was a boring affair. Good crowd, snags were ok but the highlight for me was the slow bowling of Northcote, looked very good from my vantage point.
Full points to the media manager of both clubs, promoting Brad HODGE & Andrew Mcdonald as drawcards, when they knew very well they were both playing in a shield game & thumbs down to Adam Dale - unless he was injured?? - thought he should have played so some parents could have at least said to there young boys & girls - " see that guy bowling, he played for Australia".
