Haddin - do you rate him as a keeper?

Another poor performance in the one dayers today missing a crucial run out, he doesn't even seem to have a go if the throw is hard and rocketed in!

Keeps missing runouts, his footwork is crap, he seems heavy on his feet and very flatfooted like he is rooted in the ground. He doesn't move well at all.

And without his cameo at the end Australia would have made 245 - 250 but you don't seem to remember that.

Give the guy a break it seems like you are hunting on every bad thing he does and as soon as he slips up you are reporting it on here.

There is no other keeper that has a patch on him at this stage and until there is there is no point dropping him.

Re: Haddin - do you rate him as a keeper?

I dont think there is much competition, but even Ronchi can hit a quick 18 at the end :p

But after seeing Ronchis drop on Thursday, there is nothing between their keeping skills

Not really, being heavy on your feet is one of the biggest weakness a kepper can have. He doesn't move accross to wide stuff well. He doesn't get his body behind balls that grub and he has missed a lot of return throws. Honestly his competition is nothing special. He's a batsmen who keeps and had a good run when he was young as a keeper.

why do we all have to be so harsh on the guy?
why arent we having a go at tait and bracken for their misfields in the crucial last overs....
wasnt haddin the bloke who went up to the stumps during nathan brackens final over and put massive pressure on botha, which caused him to play and miss at 3 balls in a row and nearly get australia back in the game?
there is no one better than him in australian cricket so until there is, stop having a go at the guy

Exactly he is the best wicket keeper batsman in Australia by far and until he does have competition there is no point bagging him and getting him for every little thing he does wrong.

You should learn to be more positive and focus on the things he does right.

Your wasting your time making points that make sense, grapedo only hears what he want's to here. P.S all excellent points he truly is a shit keeper if he's the best we have then we are struggling.

Haha true true :D

Thanks for the advice.

Re: Haddin - do you rate him as a keeper?

Haddin is coppin it because he has been doing a few bad things during his international career that stand out and appear to lack effort for a player at this level. He consistantly does a few bad things that cost runs and a wickets. Plain and simple but he is the best we have and it's easy to be critical after coming off the greatest wicket keeper of all time.

Re: Haddin - do you rate him as a keeper?

we're all trying to compare him to gilchrist still.

impossible thing to do.

As far as i'm concerned, Haddin is brilliant, his batting is more technically correct than gilchrist's and it is fantastic to watch. Gilchrist will always be the entertainer and his skills can't be questioned, but haddin is more technically correct - much like a mark waugh.

i rate the man as a keeper too, he is good, he is actually very good. we're just all trying to compare him to gilly, and after one year in the aussie team it's hard to do.

I completely agree. You've hit the nail on the head.

Agree with everything excpet that mate. I think you are jumping the gun a bit. Perhaps the greatest Wicket keeper batsman of all time but not the greatest wicket keeper.

Gilchrist was an average keeper technique wise he was just offered alot of catches and stumpings. ie Warne and Mcgrath.

Gilchrist took catches other keepers wouldn't have got anywhere near and you have to be good enough to get stumpings. A lot of us have short memories and remember the last bit of Gilchrist's career when he was past it and his keeping was bad but in his prime Gilchrist was a great keeper aswell as batsmen. His batting technique was fine, he was a backfoot player and that is now rare and can look odd to some.
I think that people have been brainwashed because if the public is told something for long enough they will believe it. Gilly was great, I can't think of a better keeper to fast bowlers.

Being a Wicket keeper is more about how much you miss not how much you catch because the catches and stumpings say more about the bowling then the wicket keeping ability. What about all the Keepers in the early parts of the game where protection was little and they would standup at the stumps?

They are all much better than Gilchrist. And Marsh and Healy were both better keepers than Gilchrist TBH.

This is very true. If I keeper takes four easy catches in a match and drops two he hasn't had a good game, even though the stats may say otherwise. I've read books by Ian Healy and Darren Berry, two of the purest keepers ever, and they both agree that while Gilchrist is/was a good keeper and a fantastic batsman, he was not a fantastic keeper for any extended period of time.

Re: Haddin - do you rate him as a keeper?

Paul White is a keeper in the ballarat cricket association, it is a name to be remembered. The kid can play.

Re: Haddin - do you rate him as a keeper?

People seem to forget when mentioning Haddin missing the run out opportunities, that the man hit the stumps from ten metres away without looking. Don't jump on every little mistake he makes. The glass is half full for Haddin, not Half Empty.
