Round 1 tips for 3rd and 4th grade.

North Brunswick/Rosebank v Viewbank = Viewbank
Bellfield v West Ivanhoe United = Bellfield (hard to beat at home on that pitch)
Banyule v Heidelberg = Banyule
Heidelberg West v Edinburgh = Edinburgh. should win this based on efforts last season.

East Ivanhoe Saints v Rosanna = Rosanna easily.

4th grade
Edinburgh Maroon v Viewbank = flip of the coin. viewbank should be strong fielding one less team.
Edinburgh Yellow v Banyule = Banyule in an upset defeat of last year's premiers.
Rosanna v Bellfield = Bellfield
Heidelberg v Old Ivanhoe = Old Ivanhoe
 
With the season staring this week, I thought (probably stupidly) to put the old neck on the line and try and predict the winners of the opening round:

Selections - First Grade - Round 1.
North Brunswick / Rosebank vs Heidelberg West
Rosanna vs Banyule
Viewbank vs Heidleberg
West Ivanhoe United vs Edinburgh
Selections - Second Grade - Round 1.
Edinburgh vs North Heidelberg
Banyule vs Rosanna
Heidleberg vs East Ivanhoe Saints
Old Ivanhoe vs North Brunswick/Rosemont

big win today by the kennel boys without green and scannell leading the attack looks like another decent year coming up with a few handy recruits they picked up harvey bagged a lazy 6 wickets in 1st game :)

well, 4 from 5 wasn't bad. expected rosanna to do a little better :(

What do others make of week 1 action?
In the 1's the reigning premier couldn't have been more impressive. the bears were disappointing. rosanna did what they had to do.
In the 2's nth heid were very impressive
In the 3's heid west were either very ordinary or edinburgh were very strong and in the 4's bellfield must have been very weakened and old ivanhoe showed that they should be playing 3rd grade. premiership beckons for them this year.
 
Been a bit quiet on here for the majority of the week. Let's hope that the weather allows for Round 2 to get underway. So, my thoughts on the matches:

Agree with nearly all selections but think Edinburgh will be too strong for viewbank in the 1's.
 
What does everybody think of the past 2 weeks of cricket? Although it has been an interrupted start to the season, some exiting cricket has already been played with some big games coming up in the next few rounds
my observation for the top 4 from the last 2 games is as follows;
North Brunswick Rosebank- looking hard to beat with a very strong list, Plumpton looking to have a massive season
Rosanna- the XI might finally have found the right mix of players, with Huss leading the team in a right direction with good depth running through to the 2's
Heidelberg- The young bowling attack looks very promising and has worked well without noonan however will need to peform against the better sides
Edinburgh- Just edging out Banyule, rained out in the 2nd game, will yet again rely on Shadbolt and Branigan in order to maintain the position in the top 4
 
Viewbank wont quite be contenders this year i wouldnt have thought, with 6-7 new players in one team its going to take a while for the group to gel and become successful, the club is slowly moving foward.

looking foward to seeing rosanna V rosebank so rosanna can be put in there place.

north hberg are a classy team and should be in a grade it is a joke that 2nd grade cricketers have to face johnny green, trent scannel and matty best..and even shane harvey

After the completion of yesterday's exciting matches that were interrupted the previous week by the weather, yes there were some for the doubters (!), it's a Sunday Special as we have another round of one-day 'hit and giggle' matches to give everyone their money's worth. And it would be well worth venturing down to Warringal Park to see the traditional clash, and this season's undefeated teams in Heidelberg and Rosanna clash in an early season setup for premiership favouritism in First Grade. Another match of interest is between Viewbank and West Ivanhoe to see who will record their first win. In Second Grade, boom side North Heidelberg should continue their winning streak.

totally agree 100% the league was thinking of putting us straight thru to a grade but silly mistake as will be dominant force yet again in b grade
 
Well, is this the round that some teams show some backbone and play out their game to the fullest. Recent scores and performances from some teams don't bode well for a vibrant competition. But then on the other hand, results from the last round could have been effected by players having to play on successive days. The poor boys !

Well, here we go again. Another attempt to get a round of cricket off the ground. All being well, the weather will cooperate with everyone this Saturday. And there are some standout games to keep the interest alive after some dull matches recently. In First Grade, Banyule and Heidelberg take centre stage, while in Second Grade, the premiership favourites North Heidelberg face their stiffest test so far when they travel to North Brunswick Rosebank.

was down watching nth heidelberg v rosebank on saturday great game of cricket it was ...great win by the doggies without scannell and green in the team but still proved far to strong ....after the game was a bit hectic thought there was going to be an all in brawl but luckily was only push and shove
 
We're about at the halfway mark of the season with more days having been played as having not been played. But that is the nature of the fickle weather that we have to encounter. And this weekend's forecast doesn't appear to be any better. But we just have to battle on, and that is what is likely to be the case in a couple of marquee match-ups this round.

Round 7 Previews
In the First Grade, all eyes will be on the scoreboard at Warringal Park where Heidelberg will be hosting North Brunswick Rosebank in the clash of the two titans of the competition. But of course the current competition leader in Rosanna may not have it all their own way as they visit Edinburgh. In the Second Grade, again the clash between the North Brunswick Rosebank and Heidelberg second elevens will hold much interest while the two competition leaders in North Heidelberg and East Ivanhoe Saints should continue with their winning ways.
