Hilfenhaus V Siddle

Who would you rather in the one day side?

Peter Siddle
Pros
-With Clarke out he is our best seamer, bowled great in the tests and improved out of sight.
-Moves it both ways of the seam.
-Australias only seamer in the side, Hopes is our hightst wicket taker and best bowler.
-Has a great bouncer.
-Has a good yorker.
-Been in great form for Victoria the this and last season.
-Has good pace.
-Has good bounce.

Cons
-First over or 2 can be a bit wayward but not often and he's mostly accurate.
-Just back from injury.

Hilfenhaus
Pros
-Has the potential to be a great swing bowler.
-Bowls a very good outswinger.
-Has good pace.
-Has a reasonable slower ball cutter.
-Has improved a little.

Cons
-Accuracy, doesn't often bowl consecutive balls in the same spot.
-Has a very ordinary bouncer.
-Has a very ordinary yorker.
-Bowls a fraction too short with the new ball. He bowls a seamers length. I haven't seen many if any edges from an out swing bowler which is very ordinary, he needs to pitch it fuller so it spends more time in the air and the batsmen can't watch it off the wicket. outside off to the right handers and straight to the left handers.
-Has been hit for a few runs.
-Hasn't been a great wicket taker.

My opinion is to have Siddle. I think they are looking for a swing bowler to take to England to swing the Duke so they are trying to get as much international cricket into him as they can.

I think he should go back to Tasmania and learn to bowl a good length and improve his line. He's not far of a real good opening bowler but at the moment he's wasting the new ball and the swing.

On the other hand Bracken is not bowling great but he's a proven star and he'll be back and get better.

Re: Hilfenhaus V Siddle

Siddle for sure, for the reasons gbatman stated above and i also belive he is a few years younger.

Re: Hilfenhaus V Siddle

I'm going to go with Siddle to.
He is going to be great for Australia over the years to come

Re: Hilfenhaus V Siddle

Siddle for tests.
Hilfy for ODI's.
I actually rate Hilfy's ODI bowling, when he's on song,i rate him as one of the best death bowlers in Australia.

Seriously? He can't bowl a yorker and lacks accuracy? He's been spanked bowling at the death at times.

Seriously though he has the potential to be very very good.

I said when he's on song, watch some of his domestic matches,he is a superstar at the death with his bouncers and yorkers.

For the one day side, Siddle. Why risk ruining the Hilf for the real stuff?
Good one:rolleyes:. Surely Siddle will play in front of him today.
Think we'll get an understanding of the way selectors rate both today.

At the moment, yes, Siddle would get selected ahead of Hilf - but I'm not convinced that Siddle will end up being as good as Hilf in 12 months and more; for Test cricket that is.

Really? Siddle is the best seam bowler in Australia I think. Sure, Hilfenhaus can swing the thing but he doesn't swing it as good as Siddle "seams" it I reckon.

Re: Hilfenhaus V Siddle

I personally would love both. Johnson (cut) and Siddle (seam) and Hilfenhaus (Swing) opening. Hilfenhaus has so much ability but he's bowling too short. Someone needs to tell him he's an out swing bowler, not a seamer and to pitch it up and get the batsmen driving.

Honestly have our bowlers got better or worse since we poached our bowling coach from England? What is that man getting paid for? Time to get in Glenn McGrath or DK Lillie as bowling coach perhaps...

Re: Hilfenhaus V Siddle

Hilfy's wicket in the "final" just then against NZ was the perfect length. I'd rather he bowled fuller than that if anything. Pity he only bowled one full ball. And why is bracken bowling short shit! What's gone wrong with him...

Re: Hilfenhaus V Siddle

Siddle is defintely ahead so far in the pecking order, but that doesnt mean that Hilfenhaus cant be a great bowler for us.

I personally think Hilfenhaus would be better suited to the longer format of the game in much the same way Stuart Clark is. You'd think it would be hard for him to debut in SA unless injury takes place or if Bollinger gets spanked. They only have one warm up game i think and you'd imagine that the bowling lineup that will play in the first test will line up in that warm up game rather then a situation where you have 2 bowlers having a "bowl off" for the last remaining spot.

Re: Hilfenhaus V Siddle

Gee Siddle moved the ball off the seam a lot in that 20Twenty last night! A sign of things to come...

And Hilfy bowled too short and failed to be able to bowl yorkers and slower balls and got spanked a bit. Again.

spot on.

Re: Hilfenhaus V Siddle

If I was posed that question at the start of the summer just after the indian tour where Siddle played I would have said Hilfenhaus.
After Siddle's efforts in the tests and Hilfenhaus' apalling efforts in the one dayers Siddle is the man.
Thought Doug the rug mighta been given a shot whilst Hilfy was going off the rails..
