February - April

India kickoff their 48 day tour of New Zealand with a Twenty20 match. The tour will span 3 Tests, 5 ODI's and 2 Twenty20 matches. New Zealand has always been India's waterloo, let alone a test series, India hasn't won a single test in New Zealand.

The lack of practice matches (due to the need for completing the tour before the start of the IPL) could cost India like it cost them the Boxing Day test match against Australia in 2007. The wickets in England, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia are completely different to the sub-continent dustbowls and India cannot risk losing a match in trying to acclimatise with the demanding conditions. Despite this being a recurring problem, the BCCI seems to show no interest to address it.

Sachin, Sehwag, Dravid, Yuvraj, Laxman and Zaheer are the only players in the current India squad to have toured New Zealand before. Otherwise, India are carrying a relatively inexperienced side with little or no experience of playing in seaming and swinging conditions.

Sehwag was reasonably successful in the ODI format when he made two centuries - one in Napier and the other in Christchurch. We can expect him to play his natural game in the test maches too.

Gautam Gambhir will be tested in the seaming and swinging conditions. This is the first time Gambhir is playing in a test match outside the sub-continent. His long-term future as an Indian opener will depend upon how he will handle the conditions here.

Jacob Oram and Ross Taylor have returned from injury and been named in New Zealand's 13-man squad for two Twenty20s against India, but there appears growing concern for Kyle Mills.

Re: India in New Zealand

India 7/117 after 16 overs in the T20.

Its been pretty much hit out or get out except for the last few overs.

Re: India in New Zealand

Nathan McCullum to Yusuf, out Caught by Oram!! magnificent catch! Yusuf goes for the fourth six in a row, he hammers if flat over Oram's head at long on, Oram jumps up high catches it, realises he is going over the rope, lobs the ball back in and jumps back and catches it, Phew what excitement, Yusuf goes after three sixes, great catch by Oram.

Reminiscent of the Adam Voges catch.

Re: India in New Zealand

New Zealand lost Ryder early and Guptill was also plumb leg before first ball, but the umpire got it wrong and Guptill made it count. McCullum played a responsible innings to guide the Kiwis home. India never looked like winning as the partime bowlers were pasted all over the park. 24 sixes which was a record were hit today on what is the smallest ground in the world. India need to do some serious thinking about their lineup ahead of their next game in two days.

Re: India in New Zealand

Great write up Double07. @|

Good win to NZ, McCullum has really improved his batting over the past couple of years. Definitely becoming one of the better one-day batters on the international scene. India went in one bowler short, the two Pathans and Yuvraj were horribly expensive. Irfan Pathan has really gone on the decline in the past two years although I never really rated him anyway.

Re: India in New Zealand

New Zealand won the second Twenty20 game by five wickets with Brendon McCullum again starring with 69 not out and hitting the winning runs off the final ball of the game with his elder brother watching at the other end.

Yuvraj Singh 50 (34)
MS Dhoni 28* (30)
Virender Sehwag 24 (11)

Re: India in New Zealand

What a match to end the T20 series.

NZ made a great start and looked to be coasting to victory until that howler from Barry Dexter to send back Guptill.

India suddenly rushed through their overs as Harbhajan and Jadeja kept it tight.

Irfan came back and bowled a dream over to take two wickets, until Brendon McCullum snatched victory with those two boundaries.

Ishant was off the field due to an injury, so Irfan had to bowl the final over.

Magnificent way to finish for NZ as they maintain their unbeaten record against Ind in T20Is.

Re: India in New Zealand

India win by 53 runs D/L

A comfortable victory for India. The only time it seemed New Zealand stood a chance of overhauling their score was when Taylor and Guptill added 58 for the third wicket. The rain interruption really hurt the hosts as they were left with over a 100 to get in less than eight overs. Harbhajan, in particular, had a superb time, taking three wickets in four balls to complete a comprehensive win for the visitors, who go up 1-0 in this five-match series

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the Man of the Match for his captain's innings of 84. He has donated 500 dollars to a cricket club in NZ. Also he has promised to donate some bats once the tour ends.

Dhoni: In the T20 games sometimes we go out with all guns blazing, Praveen kumar can swing the ball both ways, he is a streetsmart cricketer and most importantly he knows his limitations well. Overall happy with the result

Vettori: " Pretty Disappointing result really and some serious lack of execution cost us. We bowled pretty poorly and Raina's innings, in particular, took the game away from us".

Re: India in New Zealand

Match two was abandoned.

India are racing along in match three, 3/223 from 32 overs. Yuvraj Singh made a very quick 87 from only 60 balls. Tendulkar is up to 94 now and is looking ominous.

Mills, Butler and Elliott have the wickets at the moment.

New Zealand XI: Jesse Ryder, *Brendon McCullum, Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor, Grant Elliott, Jacob Oram, +Peter McGlashan, Ian Butler, Tim Southee, Kyle Mills, Jeetan Patel

India XI: Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, *+MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, Praveen Kumar, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel

Re: India in New Zealand

100 to Tendulkar, that's his 43rd in ODI cricket. 3/246 in the 37th. Dhoni going at a run-a-ball 26.

Re: India in New Zealand

3/328 from 44 overs. Tendulkar has raced to 156, Dhoni's on 52. Current partnership is worth 125 runs from only 14.4 overs.

Anwar's record may be in some danger.

Re: India in New Zealand

Aww, Ryder bowls a beamer and it hits Tendulkar. The next ball goes for six but Sachin is in too much pain and retires hurt at the end of the over and looks to have pulled a muscle.

3/338 from 45, Dhoni on 53. Raina's in now.

What a tragedy, could have seen a few records broken today.
