Intercontinental Cup, Ireland v UAE, Feb 10-13
Ireland comes into this match 12 points behind Scotland, and will need to win it if they want to advance to the final against Canada.
The Irish had a fairly disappointing time at the recent WCL (where they weren't bad, just unlucky), and will be looking to turn things around in the longer form of the game.
Ireland batting first.
It's stumps on day 1.
Wait until you see what Ireland did on Day 1.
You won't believe it.
Here it comes:
This is an impressive score:
They really seem to have bounced back after the defeats in Nairobi:
Ireland 461-2 after day 1, 96 overs completed!!!
461! Not bad for one day.
Porterfield and Bray were out for respectable scores of 46 and 82, but Morgan and Botha have come in and simply refused to leave. Morgan is up to 182* (from only 200 balls) and Botha is currently on 136*.
Looks like Ireland will be declaring sometime tomorrow, and will probably hope to enforce the follow-on sometime later on during this match. I don't think I'm getting too far ahead of the game here if I say that Ireland will probably declare somewhere in the 600's.
They still need to bowl UAE out twice, which probably won't be easy, but right now I'd say it looks like Ireland has a better shot to face Canada in the final than Scotland does.
