IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

The start of the IPL is here, with Bangalore hosting Kolkata!! An exciting game to look forward to, plenty of players from all different countries playing here isn't it interesting to see all these rival players at international level playing on the same team together!!

Anyway, the game is well underway, Bangalore won the toss and decided to bowl first. So far the move hasn't worked with Kolkata getting off to a blistering start and they've kept it up. Captain Sourav Ganguly was the first to fall for 10 with Ricky Ponting out a short time ago for 20. But, the player to watch so far has been New Zealand keeper, Brendon McCullum, who has been on fire!! McCullum has a staggering 99 runs from only 52 balls and has lifted Kolkata to 2/146 after 15 overs. Now he slams another six off Cameron White who is bowling his first over!!!

Zaheer Khan and Jacques Kallis have the wickets so far.

What a start to the IPL!!!

24 runs off that over from Cameron White, insane stuff by McCullum who works Ashley Noffke, who has also been incredibly expensive, throught covers for two and their is his hundred, the first one of the IPL and in the very first game!!

What a statement by the Kiwi, he is really suited to this Twenty20 stuff.

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

David Hussey is out!! Goes for a bit hit but in the end he skies Noffke and is caught by his Victorian Bushrangers teammate Cameron White!!

3/173 after 17.2 overs. McCullum up to 114, Mohammad Hafeez is the new batsman.

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

This is unbelievable from McCullum, he smashes Kallis for two more sixes and a four, he has 11 sixes and 9 fours now, a breathtaking innings. Kolkata are 3/197 after 18.4 overs, McCullum has a blistering 137 runs from just 66 balls.

The Knight Riders are getting their money's worth at the moment!!

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

And again!! More carnage from the Kiwi, he sends Praveen Kumar over the fence twice in the last over already and there's still three balls to go, 3/214 in the last over, McCullum is up to 150!!!

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

Wow, what an innings, McCullum smacks another six off Kumar, this time it was the last ball of the over. That was McCullum's 14th six and that goes with his 9 fours to boot. Kolkata finish up on 3/222, a huge target and one that will be very hard to chase.

The star though was Brendon McCullum, who remains undefeated on 158 not out, an innings which lasted a mere 73 balls.

Bangalore had no answer, all of their bowlers were smashed, even Kumar who bowled well early was taken apart, his last over conceded 22 runs. The wicket-takers were Noffke, Kallis and Zaheer Khan with every bowler being dismantled in McCullum's blaze of fury.

A brilliant innings, I wonder what Bangalore has in store for us with the bat. They'll need something good to match this!!

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

Back after the break, Ishant Sharma gets Rahul Dravid early. Dravid tries to slog across the line as his team needs almost 12 an over already but Sharma takes middle and off. And young Ashok Dinda gets Kohli for one run in much the same way, a forced pull shot which only plays onto the stumps.

Not a great start by Bangalore, they're 2/17 after four overs.

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

Uh-oh, now Kallis is gone. Jacques hits a big six off Ajit Agarkar but the next ball, he pulls but straight to Murali Kartik at mid-on.

3/24 after five overs.

This is getting bad for Bangalore. Dinda gets his second wicket, Jaffer chases a wide one and gives first slip a nice catch.

4/26 after six overs. Over 14 runs per over needed to win now, they've just got to go for it and with bit hitters White and Mark Boucher at the crease, it might be possible.

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

Bangalore are being swamped here, the asking rate is just far too much. Boucher tries to smash this one to the on-side but gets a big edge and is caught by Murali Kartik at deep cover point to give Ganguly his first wicket.

5/38 in the 8th over.

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

Geez, this is getting embarassing. Another one bites the dust, Agarkar gets Ahkil with a simple catch to Ricky Ponting in slips. 6/38 after 8.2 overs.

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

Wow .. that's one of the most amazing innings I've ever seen. We obviously get it delayed on WIN as it's at the change, looks like the chase is a total fizzer anyway.

Oh, and White bowling lol.

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

And another, Agarkar has three as Cameron White edges to Saha, who is keeping instead of McCullum who was absolutely exhausted after his whirlwind innings.

7/43 after nine overs. A horrible mismatch this has become.

Didn't start till 12:15am on Channel 10, absolute joke. |@ |@

Agarkar can do no wrong, he fires in a throw to run out Noffke who was trying to complete a second runs after flicking Ganguly's delivery to backward square.

8/58 in the 12th over. The Knight Riders will be riding into the sunset tonight!!

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

Well, Zaheer Khan doesn't last long, plays the wrong line and is cleaned bowled by Ganguly. Sourav celebrates and is immediately embraced by a happy Ricky Ponting. Don't see that often do you?

9/71 now, Sunil Joshi is the last batsman for Bangalore.

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

All over. Joshi pulls to mid-off but is caught by Boucher. Praveen Kumar remains 18 not out, the only Bangalore player to make it to double figures. Bangalore are all out for 82 handing Kolkata victory by a massive 140 runs.

A mesmerising innings from Boucher is capped off by a supreme bowling effort from the Knight Riders. Agarkar was the chief wicket-taker with three wickets, Ganguly and Dinda took two while Shukla and Sharma snared one each with the run out of Noffke making ten wickets.

No contest for Nam of the Match, that went to Brendon McCullm for his 158 not out. That is the highest score in the history of Twenty20 cricket and what a way to do it too in the first game of the IPL Twenty20 tournament. A great start to the tournament in terms of the big hits but the game in the end was a complete mismatch. Bangalore have plenty of work to do before their next game while Kolkata seem the early favourites.

And the best thing, is that there's more games tomorrow!!

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

The Kolkata Knight Riders have whipped the Dravid led Royal challengers by a huge margin of 140 runs !!

McCullum, the respected NZ wicketkeeper batsman made a mockery of the RC team by hitting them to all parts of the ground.

In all he hit 13 sixes and 10 fours in a batting blitzkrieg that lasted the entire innings.

The RC batsmen , on the other hand folded timidly for just 82 which would certainly rankle them.

IPL off to a roaring start !!

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

Challengers look like they might struggle a bit, they just don't have much fire power.

Re: IPL Game 1 - Bangalore vs Kolkata at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

all i can say about this game was Bangalore were miserable - and i tipped them to win the tournament - god help me!
