IPL Game 9 - Deccan Chargers vs Rajasthan Royals at R. Ghandi Int. Stad, Hyderabad

Game nine of the IPL sees the winless Deccan Chargers play the Rajasthan Royals in a crucial match-up in Hyderabad. Even at such an early stage in the tournament, this match-up looms as a big one as both teams will want to improve on some disappointing efforts so far.

The Chargers are still yet to win a game so far in this series and desperately need a win here as 0-3 would see them stuggle to make the finals. Their batting appears to be a major problem, with their previous efforts seeing them unable to put up a decent total, especially in their second encounter where the Delhi Daredevils gave them an absolute smashing. Gilchrist, Afridi, Laxman, Symonds and Rohit Sharma are going to need to stand up here and get runs on the board otherwise they will continue to struggle. Vaas, RP Singh and Ohja will have to do well with the ball to restrict a dangerous Royals batting card which hit its straps in their last game.

The Royals though had a win last time out, overcoming the Kings XI Punjab side in the second last over of game six. Their bowling still appears to be a worry with only Shane Warne and Munaf Patel as the recognised bowlers. The rest seem to be relatively unknown, in international circles anyway. Warne and Patel will again have to shoulder most of the work with the ball and the possible addition of Graeme Smith to the side should see them grow stronger with the bat. The addition of the South African captain will bolster a pretty impressive batting line-up which already boasts Shane Watson, Kamran Akmal, Yusuf Pathan and Mohammad Kaif.

This should be a good game I feel, the Chargers are desperate for a win whilst the Royals will be keen to make it two on the trot. Get ready for some fireworks.

Re: IPL Game 9 - Deccan Chargers vs Rajasthan Royals at R. Ghandi Int. Stad, Hyderaba

Well, Deccan finally hit their straps, they made it to 5/214, thanks to a superb effort from Andrew Symonds. Symonds smashed 117 not out from just 53 balls, a truly mesmerising innings and one that has put the Chargers in a good position for victory. Rohit Sharma supported well with 36.

Yusuf Pathan took 2/20 from two overs and Shane Warne 2/47 from four overs. Shane Watson was Rajasthan's best bowler I thought, 1/32 from eight overs, one of the few bowlers with an economy below 10. Munaf Patel was spanked for 55 from his four overs.

In reply, Rajasthan are 1/14, Kamran Akmal just got out for 12 and has scored the only runs from the bat. Graeme Smith is 0 not out with two leg byes. Chaminda Vaas has the wicket.

Yusuf Pathan and Smith are going absolutely nuts. 1/73 after six overs, Pathan is 36 off only 15 balls while Smith has taken off after his slow start and is 22 off 12. Ohja and Vaas have taken a hammering, 38 runs from the last two overs!!

Super Symonds mauls Rajasthan

It was clear his two initial failures were just a blimp in the radar as Andrew Symonds stormed back in to the IPL with the fastest century of the tournament.

Crucial wicket, Kalyankrishna gets Yusuf Pathan who was smashing them to all parts of the ground.

Pathan out for 61 from just 28 balls and the Royals are 2/112 in the 10th over. Shane Watson is the new batsman.

Afridi takes a wicket!! A good over from the Pakistan player, only concedes five runs and pick ups the wicket of Shane Watson for only four runs. Watson goes for the slog sweep but Afridi bowls the quicker and Watson misses completely.

3/127 after 12.1 overs. Mohammad Kaid is the new batsman.

Symonds getting carted again, 20 off that ovenot as bad as the 30 Virender Sehwag took off him two nights ago. Kaif and Smith are starting to hit their straps.

3/159 after 15 overs.

Re: IPL Game 9 - Deccan Chargers vs Rajasthan Royals at R. Ghandi Int. Stad, Hyderaba

Afridi again, Kaid misjudges and tries to heave it down the ground but he finds Symonds in the deep.

4/186, Smith is still there though, the Chargers need his wicket badly.

29 off 17 required.

Re: IPL Game 9 - Deccan Chargers vs Rajasthan Royals at R. Ghandi Int. Stad, Hyderaba

Kiss of death!! Guess who Afridi gets?? Yes, Smith!!

A low full toss and but Smith can't get enough on it and Kalanayakrishna takes the catch at deep midwicket.

5/187 now, Smith gone for 71 off 45 balls. 28 needed of 16 with two new batters at the crease. Shane Warne is in now.

Re: IPL Game 9 - Deccan Chargers vs Rajasthan Royals at R. Ghandi Int. Stad, Hyderaba

Jajeda loses his middle stump and is gone for one. RP Singh sends it flying after bowling a smart yorker.

6/194, Salunkhe is in now, 21 required off nine deliveries, Warne's on five not out.

Re: IPL Game 9 - Deccan Chargers vs Rajasthan Royals at R. Ghandi Int. Stad, Hyderaba

All going pear-shaped for the Royals now, Salunkhe tries to go for a non-existent run but is sent back by Warne and he is caught short.

7/198 after 19 overs. Rajasthan will need 17 off the last over which will be bowled by Andrew Symonds.

Re: IPL Game 9 - Deccan Chargers vs Rajasthan Royals at R. Ghandi Int. Stad, Hyderaba

Royals win!!!

Symonds' first two balls to Pankaj Singh goes for two and one respectively, bringing Warne on strike.

Warne smashes the third ball for four and then the next one for six, reducing the amount needed to just four!! And what a way to finish off the game, the shiek of tweak smacks the next ball for six over deep extra cover to give the Royals victory by three wickets!!!!

Unbelievable!! Warne ends up 22 not out from nine balls and Pankaj Singh four runs off three balls. Symonds is having a shocking tournament with the ball, can't seem to get the ball in the right areas, his figures of 0/46 off 2.5 overs explain his bowling woes. Two nights ago he was 0/35 off two overs after Sehwag gobbled up his Mrs Macs pies.

Chargers are definitely a bowler short, they are missing a full-time bowler in their side. Vaas, Singh, Ohja and Afridi aren't enough it seems.

A thrilling win to the Rajasthan Royals, winning the by three wickets and having one ball to spare. They have two wins and one loss now while the Chargers sink to 0 and 3, they're in massive trouble now.

But he is on a three year contract talk-cricket?

Only a matter of time till he showed him why he is the highest paid player. Batting is his thing in this format so I wouldn't take his rubbish bowling figures as a sign that he is finished.

wel i beg to differ he is an allrounder, also why did laxman give him the ball ?!?
