IPL Game 9 - Deccan Chargers vs Rajasthan Royals at R. Ghandi Int. Stad, Hyderabad
Game nine of the IPL sees the winless Deccan Chargers play the Rajasthan Royals in a crucial match-up in Hyderabad. Even at such an early stage in the tournament, this match-up looms as a big one as both teams will want to improve on some disappointing efforts so far.
The Chargers are still yet to win a game so far in this series and desperately need a win here as 0-3 would see them stuggle to make the finals. Their batting appears to be a major problem, with their previous efforts seeing them unable to put up a decent total, especially in their second encounter where the Delhi Daredevils gave them an absolute smashing. Gilchrist, Afridi, Laxman, Symonds and Rohit Sharma are going to need to stand up here and get runs on the board otherwise they will continue to struggle. Vaas, RP Singh and Ohja will have to do well with the ball to restrict a dangerous Royals batting card which hit its straps in their last game.
The Royals though had a win last time out, overcoming the Kings XI Punjab side in the second last over of game six. Their bowling still appears to be a worry with only Shane Warne and Munaf Patel as the recognised bowlers. The rest seem to be relatively unknown, in international circles anyway. Warne and Patel will again have to shoulder most of the work with the ball and the possible addition of Graeme Smith to the side should see them grow stronger with the bat. The addition of the South African captain will bolster a pretty impressive batting line-up which already boasts Shane Watson, Kamran Akmal, Yusuf Pathan and Mohammad Kaif.
This should be a good game I feel, the Chargers are desperate for a win whilst the Royals will be keen to make it two on the trot. Get ready for some fireworks.
