Johnson sent home!?!?

after grabbing 4 wickets in the India match he gets sent home because the squad needs to be 'trimmed' to 15.

AUSTRALIA chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch today defended the decision to send Mitchell Johnson home early from Malaysia after he starred with the ball against India.

Johnson grabbed four wickets in eight deliveries, including Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar, but will return to Australia along with Mark Cosgrove and Phil Jaques as part of a pre-planned move to trim the 18-man squad back to 15.

Hilditch said the call was made in order to ensure all players got maximum chances to get onto the field, with Mike Hussey, Andrew Symonds, Brett Lee and Matthew Hayden all yet to play a game in the series.

ok, fine if they want to trim the roster but too bad then for someone esle, this guy has been doing super, there's no reason why they should have sent him home.

Read this article instead. It gives a nice view of the situation. This was all pre-planned. He excelled in the chances he was given. Sometimes it's best to go out on a high note, and leave 'em wanting more.

Re: Johnson sent home!?!?

hmmm, i wonder if they could have used some of the bowlers they sent home-
"Hussey's plight was not helped by a relatively inexperienced bowling attack at his disposal with Ashes hopeful Stuart Clark, in particular, suffering a pair of horror spells at the hands of Gayle and Lara.

Plagued by wides and no balls, Clark - just two days after Mitchell Johnson returned 4-11 against India's top order - finished with figures of 0-87 in seven overs before being removed from the attack.

In total, the Aussies gifted 33 runs in extras as the West Indies cruised home with 16 balls to spare despite a late wobble when Wavell Hinds, Marlon Samuels and Dwayne Smith were dismissed in the final stages.

I don't know why you would send him home when he actually found some form. However I guess for the selectors 1 good bowling spell is good enough, and will probably be reason enough to keep him in our plans forever now...

Re: Johnson sent home!?!?

Stupid decision with Clark struggling we have no back up if someone breaks down. Silly decision yet again.

Re: Johnson sent home!?!?

I don't think the selectors really care about the outcome of this series, just to get a few of the guys match fit so when it comes round to the Champions Trophy they will field the best XI.

Re: Johnson sent home!?!?

Good move by the selectors. They now know that they have got somebody in reserve to fly in if they need to replace one of the bowlers if there are any injuries.

Re: Johnson sent home!?!?

Not sure why they didn't send Clark home instead.

Good on him for taking his chances though.

Re: Johnson sent home!?!?

Clark bounced back strongly last night taking 2-36 from 8 overs.
