kwik cricket/cheap cricket equipment

ok, so I have a buddy who plays Aussie Rules, so he knows about cricket but has never played. He's a good baseball player. I gave him on updates and crap on the world cup and he has now stated that he could kick my ass in cricket. well, that is not going to happen (even though I've never played!). I'd like to get a kwik cricket set or some cheap (pricewise) equipment to play in the backyard or in a park in the US. anyone got any idea of where i can purchase said equipment and get it shipped over at a minimal cost?

Re: kwik cricket/cheap cricket equipment

check out singh sport's website. they are based in queens, nyc. i have been there and they have a plastic set which is big enough for adults. i have one similar for backyard & beach cricket and is heaps of fun.

Re: kwik cricket/cheap cricket equipment

the pictures on their website aren't working. i may have to call them. without seeing pictures, which set would you suggest? the largest kids set?

Re: kwik cricket/cheap cricket equipment

yes, i think thats it. tell them you came from BigCricket, and thats how you found the site. it should look similar to this-

Re: kwik cricket/cheap cricket equipment

If it was me I would personally go for a really cheapo wood one. Not a fan of the plastics LOL.

Re: kwik cricket/cheap cricket equipment

and question on beach cricket. how much space is needed? believe it or not there are beaches in Chicago (Lake Michigan!) so I could get a group to play there, but I don't want to be smacking the ball all over the place and hitting people.

Re: kwik cricket/cheap cricket equipment

lol. We do that in Aus all the time (playing on crowded beaches)

Prefereable you'd like a bit of a strip with not many people in front of you. You need a bit of space (obviously !!) but you don't need as much as you think.

Re: kwik cricket/cheap cricket equipment

might be able to find a strip somewhere. i might have to scout out the locations

Oak St Beach (bottom) and North Ave Beach (above the part that juts out at the top)

about as good of a beach as you are going to get in the middle of the USA.

Re: kwik cricket/cheap cricket equipment

beach cricket is heaps of fun, give it a go and let us know how it goes. beer always makes it a bit more fun too :D

Re: kwik cricket/cheap cricket equipment

Playing cricket in the States do you get funny looks from passers by? My brother said when he was there on a holiday one of the guys took a footy to kick around. When they were kicking it near the Whitehouse on the grass he said people stopped and stared obviously thinking WTF! ha ha.

but yesterday would've been a good day. not that crowded. off course everything would be a full toss, but whatever. I dont' have the set and realy had no one to play yesterday. it was 85 degrees out and today it is 40! that is in Farenheit. i'm american :D

yes you do get funny looks, but at the same time, in NYC, there are many, many cricket fields and many leagues. you'd be surprised.

Re: kwik cricket/cheap cricket equipment

i'm trying to get a picture of the set from Singh Sports and they don't respond to my emails!

Re: kwik cricket/cheap cricket equipment

hmmm, try giving them a call. i know they take forever to reply but they are much better with calls.

Re: kwik cricket/cheap cricket equipment

so www.singhsports.com takes me to a new site now. emailed them, because i didn't see any kids sets on their website. might have to fork over some dough to get one from AUS or the UK.
